Private Historic Lakeside Villa, 30 Min from Helsinki
A historic home, meant to be shared.
Our lakeside estate is close to everything and yet in the middle of nowhere. It sits by a lake and is surrounded by old forest, only a short drive from Helsinki, Porvoo Old Town and the airport. It is so peaceful out here that a lynx patrols the grounds. The estate faces west over the water, so evenings end with long sunsets. Swim and take a sauna in the glow of the nightless summer night, listen to cranes calling like trumpets across the lake, and unwind by the open fire. You have the whole place to yourselves: a historic villa, a lakeside sauna and a former caretaker's cottage, with rare privacy just 30 minutes from Helsinki.
The estate
The estate offers a large private yard and three separate buildings for you to enjoy.
Villa Spranger is a historic stone villa built in 1945, designed by architect Aino Kallio-Ericsson, who worked at Alvar Aalto's architectural practice. Aalto's influence is especially visible in the 1963 extension.
The villa keeps the many layers of time that have shaped it. The earliest parts, especially the tiled stove and the columns, evoke the neoclassical style of the late 19th century, while the extension is clearly modernist. Throughout, this history shows in original wooden floors, time-worn surfaces and the gentle patina of the years. If you find beauty in the wabi-sabi spirit of things that age gracefully, you will feel at home here.
Those layers are also present in the villa's collection of Finnish art, spanning the 1970s to today. It includes works by the modernist Sam Vanni, several prints by Outi Heiskanen and pieces by the graffiti artist EGS, surrounded by large houseplants. This is a home with deep roots, soul and character.
The Villa
The villa has five bedrooms, one of them furnished as a children's room. The living room opens onto a spacious natural stone patio with beautiful views over the lake, and at its heart is a large, handsome open fireplace. It flows into the TV room and the dining room, each with a fireplace of its own. The kitchen is large, fully equipped and thoroughly functional, with cabinetry that is unmistakably of the 1990s. The downstairs bedroom is named the Lynx Love Nest, in honour of our wild neighbour.
The Cottage
Originally built as a caretaker's house, the cottage has a bedroom with a queen bed, a fully fitted kitchen, a living and dining room, and a bathroom with shower. The sofa bed in the living room sleeps two comfortably. It also has air conditioning and a walk-in closet.
The Sauna House
Across the yard, right by the lake, the recently renovated sauna house has an electric sauna, two showers and a small, cozy spa lounge overlooking the water. There is also a kitchenette and a sofa bed for one.
Life by the lake
Facing west, the terrace and shore are the perfect place to take in glorious sunsets. Grill and dine outdoors on summer evenings, or gather around the fire as dusk falls. At breakfast, watch the waterbirds go about their morning, and in the evening listen to the trumpeting calls of cranes. In midsummer, swim and sauna under the nightless night. In autumn, pick wild berries and mushrooms in the surrounding old-growth forest.
Optional extras
You can make a stay extra special with traditional sauna rituals and other wellness services, private chef dinners, guided outings to nearby nature and towns, and transfers. These are available for an additional fee. Just ask us when you book and we will plan them with you.
