About this property
"The 56" - Yosemite Foothills Ranch
Joe and Cathy moved to beautiful Catheys Valley to enjoy the serenity and quiet solitude of a ranch off the beaten path. Their outdoor lifestyle and love of animals and horseback riding is perfectly suited for life on “The 56”. The guest home listed here is a quarter mile away from their personal residence and has two bedrooms and two full baths. Enjoy quiet evenings at the house, BBQ's and bonfires in the great outdoors overlooking the gorgeous lights of the Central Valley!
Miniature horses live directly across from the guest home! Guests are welcome to interact with the goats and ponies with guidance from the owners. A special experience for you and your kids!!
Don't forget about Yosemite National Park! YNP is approximately an hour away (50 miles) when travelling through hwy 140 through the historic town of Mariposa or approximately 1 hr. 20 minutes (60 miles) if traveling via hwy 49 through the lovely town of Oakhurst CA.
Our 56 acre property is yours to hike and explore. We have safe quad trails for hiking, biking and walking your dog. We have a 10 X 10 covered dog kennel for your use during the day should you decide to leave your dog here. Although well behaved dogs are allowed to be in the guest home and be off a leash while you are present, they are not allowed in the home during the day if you leave. There is also a pool at the house to cool off in on those warm summer days.
We will never be far away if you need anything. You will see us feeding the horses, goats and chickens during the day, but we will let you enjoy your space. Your children would be welcome to meet the animals with me and share in the "chores" if they like! We have chickens in the hen house for fresh eggs for our guests every day! The kids (or grownups) are welcome to get them in the morning!

We had a great time. Very peaceful and Joe and Cathy were very nice. Bbq and internet worked great, animals were friendly and it was fun getting eggs from the coup in the morning. Beds were comfortable as well.

We enjoyed meeting and hosting this family and I was looking forward to giving them a great review, which we have done with over 350 bookings with Airbnb and VRBO. We are pet friendly and accepted their request to book with us, and they confirmed they had kennels for their dogs. Unfortunately, when I looked at the property when they checked out, I saw irreparable (need a professional) damage to our hardwood floors. The large dogs were left in the home during the day, although we provide a covered 10 X 10 outdoor kennel for our guests use. The listing clearly states that dogs are not to be left in our home unattended. When we provided them with damage photos and information showing they had clearly violated our policies on VRBO, their defense was "you are dog - friendly". We are trying to resolve this issue with them, currently without success.
Place was clean. Hosts were so great. Loved the animals. Hope to be back next year.

We are so happy you chose us for your stay here in Catheys Valley! You were absolutely one of the best guests we have had stay here, and you left our home in wonderful condition. You will always be welcome back!!
just the right size house for our family of 3 and a large dog. huge land for our dog to roam around anytime. fun to see the farm animals and feed them. wish we had brought more carrots and apples for the horses. appreciated the fresh eggs and the flashlight delivered by Cathy
Rented the house for 4th of July, to spend for my daughters birthday w/her family who live nearby. The pool was great for cooling off in this very hot weather and the grands loved interacting with the animals, especially at feeding time - thank you to Mary who handled our visit.
The house was perfect, so lovely each room had its own bathrm (1 w/huge soaking bathtub & shower perfect to bathe the grands after swimming!) every detail was planned for - pantry w/any appliance you could need, great outdoor areas for having our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
WHEN VISITING THE MERCED AREA &/OR YOSEMITE - THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY!
From the peaceful location with great views (the travel on the dirt road to the home was well worth it!); to the nicely decorated home; to the comfy beds, linens & towels; to the adorable farm animal friends along with many cute local bunnies & squirrels; to about an hour drive to Yosemite; and finally, but just as important, to the gracious hosts that Joe & Cathy are: EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL!

This is a lovely quiet place on a mini horse ranch in the foothills.
This place was beyond wonderful!!! It’s a place you can go and just stay at the house the whole time because there is so much to do. We have three little kids and they had a blast!! The owners were so friendly and hospitable! There is a fire pit, outdoor scrabble board, movies, books, games, the animals, the pool, the beautiful wrap around porch, etc. We even had fun just walking the large property. It’s such a great place to go to get away, I can’t recommend it enough!!! It’s also about an hour drive to Yosemite but the cute little town of Mariposa is closer and a fun place to check out if you don’t want to stay at the house the whole time. We had so much fun at this property and can’t wait to come back again!!!
We totally enjoyed spending our 50th at 56 Ranch. The little house was well appointed, wonderfully decorated and quite comfortable. There were great beds and pillows, bathrooms stocked with items that filled every need, and the kitchen had all the necessities, plus. We had fun feeding the horses carrots, finding (and eating!) the chicken’s eggs, and watching the bunnies cavort across the lawn. They were, however, too quick for Sasha, our most welcome dog. Great sunset view from the wrap around patio, as well as entertaining views of the animals through the day. We splashed in the pool, enjoyed meeting our hosts, and over all had a wonderful, relaxing time. Thank you.
