Get away from it all in rural Normandy
A great location to discover the pleasures of rural Normandy, the coast is within easy reach, try Houlgate. Lots of cider and cheese producers to discover, try the local château at Bellou for excellent organic cider and apple juice and Livarot is great for cheese lovers.
This was our second visit to Le Pressoir and it didn't disappoint. You can't help but relax when you see the beautiful setting of this property. We spent many hours in the garden enjoying the view and watching the sun go down. There aren't many mod cons and no wi-fi, but this isn't a bad thing! The water is hot, the bed comfortable, and all the views are amazing.
We brunched on bread, cheese, pate and fruit outside on the first floor terrace and barbecued most days in the garden.
A great place to get away from it all.
A lovely, quiet, retreat
It was great to get away from it all surrounded by the stunningly beautiful Normandy countryside. A perfect place to take the kids to show them that there is life without WIFI!
There is plenty to do in the surrounding countryside: trips to local markets, visit historic sites, the Battle for Normandy passed this way and Bayeaux is within easy reach or even head to the coast; Houlgate was our favourite just 50 minutes away.
Thanks for the positive review Steve and we are pleased you loved the house and surrounding area. We hope to have you again some time.
Peaceful, secluded retreat
The house is situated in one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) valleys in the Pays d'Auge. It's so peaceful, all you can hear (and see) are the cows and the birds. There's one neighbour nearby, and that's all. The house itself is authentic and charming. I spent a wonderful week here during this September, the slight chill of the evening air taken care of by the wood-burner. I recommend to anyone seeking calm and tranquility. Lisieux market (famed) is only a few miles away on Saturday. Also, the restaurant at Notre Dame d'Courson (the nearby village) is both a treat, as well as very economic. The surrounding walks suggested by the owners are wonderful (again, no one to disturb, not even a single car passing all week). If elderly you do need to manage one broad staircase to enter the property (easy to navigate). Oh, and the owners are a pleasure to deal with. Though we've not met, I feel I know and trust them simply through the dealings of booking and post-booking. Will return again without hesitation.
Thank you Mark, we're pleased you loved the peace and quiet. You have perfectly described the enchantment of the house and its location which we also love. We look forward to your return soon, perhaps in the Spring, which is a beautiful time of year with all the flowers and apple blossom on show.
Le Pressoir is perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful place to unwind, relax & escape for a while. The location is beautiful and you really feel that you are part of the surrounding countryside. We were lucky with the weather and, having taken our own portable bbq, we ate outside almost every day, but the property is well equipped if you do want to cook.
We found local walks in the Touques valley, and further afield Falais Castle is worth a trip (we went twice).
I would strongly recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from it all, and would be more than happy to stay there again at some point in the future.
Thanks Jayne, it's a lovely place to take a break in the French countryside and not far from the coast too. I should try Falais castle myself - not been there yet. Do come again; in the Spring perhaps.
The area is perfect for a combination of the Normandy Beaches, Bayeux, the Suisse Normande, Rouen and only 2 hours drive from Giverny and Paris.
The house has a peaceful position and enchanting views from the house and garden. The Touques valley runs North via Lisieux to Normandy’s top beach resorts - such as Deauville, has many other interesting attractions nearby, and is a good locality for food and drink, including famous cheeses – such as Livarot and Camembert - cider and of course, Calvados itself – both brewed within staggering distance!
Our neighbours, M et Mme Louet, rebuilt their new collombage-style holiday house next door to us when they bought the farm and often visit at weekends and holidays.
This all makes for an ideal place to spend a quiet, rural holiday if you want to get away to the real France without having to travel too far from the Channel.
Other Activities: Enjoying peace and quiet with a glass of Calvados!
