About this property

Koivu Koti: Houghton “birch house” near trails/MTU

This is a perfect place for vacation in the UP and is centrally located in Houghton making it very convenient to enjoy this fabulous town and its surrounding areas. It is situated about 1 mile from the MTU recreational trails where you can cross country ski on world class trails, snowshoe, mountain bike, hike, and run! Michigan Tech University is less than a mile as well as historic downtown Houghton.

This spacious home has a full kitchen stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, baking utensils, stove, coffee pot -- everything you need to cook all meals. There are three bedrooms in the house. Two bedrooms have queen beds and the third bedroom has two twin bed. The upstairs living space is very large and has a sectional sofa as well as a daybed, 2 twin beds, and TV. The sectional sofa pulls out into a full size bed with a comfortable pillow top that can sleep up to 2. The day bed pulls out into either 2 twin beds or 1 king size bed and can sleep up to 2. We also have two twin beds in addition. For a total of 5 beds in the upstairs living space. The TV access includes Netflix as well as Amazon prime.

This is a wonderful home for families, friends, and the adventurers looking for a cozy, clean place to stay while feeling at home. Located within reach of all Houghton has to offer and a central hub for Keweenaw exploration - you can't go wrong!

Self check-in and check-out make guests stay one step easier. Late night checking in is not a problem. Guests have full access to their half of the town house and the other side is bookable for bigger parties, please ask if you are interested!

Koivu Koti is clean, comfortable, and well furnished with beautiful "antiques" (really just good furniture) as opposed to the standard Ikea fare of many places we stayed. We loved the nice linens, Merimekko decor and the absence of cheesy posters with inspirational sayings. The kitchen was well stocked with the basics. The location is great, parking is easy, all in all a great stay.

The place was exceptionally clean which is always appreciated. We felt the kitchen needed a little larger table with at least two more chairs for a total of 4. The biggest drawback was all the stairs to get in and even more stairs to the living room. Didn’t like the arrangement and would not rent again due to all stairs and set up. Bedding was comfortable. A/C was great!!

Great Place To Stay With a Family

This property worked out perfectly as a jumping point to explore the surrounding area. It's located within walking distance to downtown Houghton and the setup is very compatible with having children.

I loved the location and it was the perfect place to stay while visiting my Husky at Tech! The extra conveniences (coffee beans/shampoo, etc) added to making the stay very enjoyable.

This was a great place to come with middle aged kiddos …it’s very nicely decorated, but you walk in and then it’s all upstairs. The bedrooms, kitchen and bath r on the second level and then the living room/bonus bedroom for the kids hangout is another level up. My kids loved it, but they r 11-15yrs olds. There is the 3rd bedroom for younger kids to be on the same level as you too, but the only TV is on the 3rd level, which my husband wasn’t super happy with. My only complaint is while the kitchen is cute, it only has 2 seats. There’s no other table to eat dinner at, so that was tough with 6 of us. I did discover that the house is split into 2 rentals, so I solved my issue and will just rent the entire place next time! That gets me another bathroom, large dining table and laundry, and more beds. …all in all it was super cute, super convenient, and the host was super responsive, which is so greatly appreciated! It has ample parking too and the wrap around porch was super relaxing!
