Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath. Sleeps 2-6. Beautiful lake views. Peaceful and quiet.
Onawim (on a whim!) is just 10 min. off I75. The closest marinas via water are Indian River Marina and Whitman Hollow Marina. The cabin lies right across from mile marker 8.
This cozy cottage, nestled amongst dogwood and pine trees is on a private dead-end lane and perches very close to the water. Steps and walkways make for EASY access to the lake. The 2 decks offer bountiful views of the lake and surrounding grounds. One of the decks has a gas grill. The other deck is covered, so you can enjoy it even in inclement weather. You will enjoy the lakeside lower deck which offers relaxing deck chairs and of course, a beautiful view. You can also sit on this shaded lakeside deck and keep an eye on the activities taking place on the dock and water. It's a great place for your morning coffee or 5 o clock cocktail, beer, or glass of wine!
You will really enjoy the private dock - both for a place to keep your boat(s) and a place to swim. The swim platform alone is 12x24. That is more than enough room to sunbathe and 'hang-out' on those exquisite summer days! A boat ramp is just 2 minutes away at Indian River Marina.
Be sure to enjoy the fire-pit and bring ingredients for smores!
You will find the accommodations comfy and cozy, perfect for smaller groups. There are 2 bedrooms. One has a king-size bed and the other has twin bunk beds and a full size bed. There is an eat-in kitchen, outside dining area, laundry area, and a family room. There is a DVD player, stereo, 2 television sets, and wi-fi. The air conditioning and ceiling fans will keep you comfortable on hot summer days. All the windows and doors have screens on them which allow for cool breezes as well.
The biggest attraction, of course, is the lake itself. By day or night, the lake beckons you to come out and play. The lake has numerous coves to explore and hang out in. So many coves, so little time! Norris Lake is great for all kinds of water sports and fishing. An added feature is the cabin's pontoon boat which is available for you to reserve.
The surrounding area offers countless recreational opportunities as well. The heart of Gatlinburg is approximately 75 miles south. Knoxville is 35 miles south. Come prepared to have a great time!
FYI: Owner manages a couple of other lake front properties in the same area. I encourage you to email or call to verify availability of requested time frame. If Onawim is not available, you have an option to check out the other properties! One property is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and the other is 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. Both are lake front and each have a private dock and great views! If you have a large group, you could reserve all cabins, which sleep up to 17 people. That way you can be together, just not 24/7!

About Joanne Geveshausen
My husband and I both grew up in the Midwest. We thought we would move back someday but we discovered Norris Lake back in 2000, and the rest, as they say, is history! We stumbled onto a slice of paradise here on Norris Lake and love sharing that with other lake-lovers! We have spent a tremendous amount of time and energy making this a family-friendly place to come to year after year! From the awesome swim/boat dock, to the decks and fire pit, ONAWIM is a great place from which to enjoy the lake. I never tire of the beauty in and around Norris as well. It is a feast for the eyes! Additionally, East TN is a HUGE play ground. Not only does it have one of the prettiest lakes, but acres and acres dedicated to hiking, four-wheeling, and horseback riding. The outdoor enthusiast has a cornucopia of options! C'mon and enjoy!
Joanne Geveshausen purchased this Cabin in 2006
Why Joanne Geveshausen chose Jacksboro
We choose this area not only because of its proximity to I75 and to town, but also for its privacy and feeling of getting away from it all. The fact that the cabin is on a dead end lane lends itself to being peaceful and quiet. There are two marinas in close proximity to ONAWIM. They are Indian River Marina and Whitman Hollow marina. This end of the lake has a plethora of coves to hang out in, rocks to climb and jump off of,and rope swings. It offers nice and smooth areas to ski or tube, and plenty of places to dangle a fishing line. It is my humble opinion that it doesn't get much better than this!
What makes this Cabin unique
As a guest here, you will really enjoy the night sky, summer sounds, the sun coming over the mountain in the morning, the swim area, the fire pit, the decks, the dock, the peace....I could go on and on. Additionally, it is conveniently located close to town. Food-city and super Wal-mart are approx 5 minutes away. Lowe's, Wal-Green's, CVS, hospital, etc. All nearby.

Great for relaxing and enjoying nature!
When we arrived, cabin was super clean and had everything we needed. Wonderful docks for boating and would be great for swimming. Water was still cool when we arrived (early May), but will be great a few weeks for swimming. House had plenty of room for 5-6 people and our dog. Just know there a set of stairs gong down to the bedrooms and bathroom. Anyone with mobility problems will have a hard time with these steps, but will not deter us from coming back. Owners are super helpful if you need anything.
This cabin is situated in a peaceful and quiet area of the lake with gorgeous views of the water. Joanne is a fabulous host and will do her very best to accommodate your every need. We really enjoyed our trip and hope to come back someday!!!
A great relaxing time!
We stayed a weekend in October, when the weather was perfect. We immensely enjoyed staying at the cabin, which is very comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch, looking out over the lake, and toasting marshmallows by the fire pit. Our stay was quiet and peaceful, which is what we were looking for. Joanne and Gary are wonderful hosts! We did see a negative review , but bear in mind that some people can't be pleased. We had a great time and found nothing lacking.
All I can say nice is that the lake is very beautiful.
See one star feedback from previous renter below. Homeowner says she is receptive to feedback; but I really don’t get that vibe so I’m choosing not to rehash. Me, husband, Mom and Dad felt the same way About this cabin and given the fact that Joanne seems to make, excuses, for the reason the way things are at her cabin I felt there was no use in me really being specific. Make your own decision and stay if you want. However, I would highly recommend that if you rent this place and you decide to rent a pontoon boat for example and you pay Joanne through PayPal… You may want to consider entering into a digitally signed Contract with her. Any time I’ve ever worked with Airbnb or previous VRBO homeowners, they have required this for rentals and any other ancillary pre-purchases but Joanne did not. In fact, she assured me they were “laid-back” and a “mom and pop environment/community”. I probably shouldn’t have rented the pontoon boat in advance of our arrival but because she assured me of how “laid-back and “they were an even told me that I could add on days after we got there if I wanted to, I decided to go for it. This trip, held a special meaning for us as a family. My parents had just been through cancer hell for the last two years and my husband and I wanted to treat them to some time away from all of the doctors, hospitals, etc.… And my dad really loves fishing and thought that two days on the boat would be a good amount for him to take up his favorite hobby that he hasn’t had time to do. So we get to the cabin and are there for a few days and then the day 1 ( really had it out for about five hours - but that’s on us), Bring it back, cleaned it up and fill it up with gas with every intention of using it on day 2. Day 2 arrives and my mom says that she really wanted us to spend time together as a family since we were all packing up and leaving the following morning. I contacted Joanne an hour and a half before we were scheduled to take the boat out and she says “just keep it for the day, you may change your mind”, we told her we would not be taking it and she again reiterated that we should keep it just in case. We never took it out and when I asked her if we could get the 2nd day rental of $200 back she said no and the only time you can do that is if it is raining and the weather is bad but you can’t get your money back if you change your mind. What happened to laid-back!?! Why couldn’t she at least just give us half...hmmmm.
Thank you for choosing to stay at ONAWIM and for leaving a comment. I have a history of being responsive to the needs and requests of the guests that come and stay. At no time during your stay did you communicate that things at the cabin were dissatisfactory and yet there were plenty of opportunities to do so. You sent several text messages to me prior to your arrival and during the length of your stay. I responded promptly to each and every one. When you asked me to address the cable television, I came over asap and got it working. When you asked about shade on the dock because your father wanted to fish but be out of the sun, I brought an umbrella and umbrella stand. You adjusted the time for boat check in on more than one occasion and each time your request was accommodated. I was invited by your husband and father to share a beer around the campfire the eve of your departure, and the conversation was of a positive nature. So, I am confused as to what the issues were of which you speak. If I was made aware of your dissatisfaction and that of your family, I would have responded to the best of my ability. Regarding the pontoon rental, you reserved and paid for two days ahead of time. I was open to letting you pick the two days upon your arrival barring any additional rental requests. This allowed you pick the best weather days. There were four beautiful days that you could have taken advantage of the boat. You went out for one day and the last full day you were here, you decided to spend family time in another way. My offering to leave the boat at the cabin that last day was an attempt on my part to make sure you had every possible opportunity to get your money’s worth. The fact that you chose not to take advantage of the full two days but to cancel at the last minute was your choice, but such a choice does not equal a refund. This is not an unusual business practice at all. If I rent a dvd and choose not to watch it, I will not receive a refund upon its return. It is understood that the rental fee is forfeit. If you leave the cabin a day early due to unforeseen circumstances, that is your choice, but would forfeit that days’ rent. This is the case here. You rented the boat but decided at the last minute you did not wish to use if for the full time, thus you forfeit the reservation funds. It is unfortunate that you have allowed this event to sour your stay.
Best regards, Joanne.
Great lake cabin
Wonderful and peaceful cabin We had an awesome time
Comfortable cabin seconds from the BEST skiing!
If waterskiing in any of its many permutations is your thing, Onawim is THE BEST place to stay on Norris Lake.! Beautiful, glassy water is just around the bend. We keep our ski boat year round at a marina about 15 minutes by boat from Big Creek, but the last two autumns, we've treated ourselves to two weeks in our own water skiing heaven, docking our boat at the dedicated floating dock right below the cabin.
We've stayed with Joanne on three separate occasions -- twice at Onawim and once at Seas the Day (just about 80 steps further up the bank!) While both properties are clean, convenient, and comfortable, we prefer Onawim for its outstanding outdoor space. The covered deck just off the living room is great for dining, day dreaming, watching the birds and squirrels, or soaking up the sights and sounds of nature. There is another deck off one of the downstairs bedrooms equipped with a very nice bar height table and chairs, a few lounge chairs, and the gas grill. Near the stairs down to the water is a fire circle and one of the landings also has chairs to sit and watch the world go by.
Onawim is built into the slope of the river bank with an upside down floor plan. All of the living space is on the entry level, and the bedrooms and bath are on the lower floor, which provides for extra privacy for the sleeping quarters.
The cabin has been recently up-dated and redecorated. The kitchen is fully equipped with full size appliances, The cabin has wi fi, and there are TVs in virtually every room with a good selection of cable channels, plus DVDs; the seating in both the family room and dining room is comfortable, and there's plenty of it! Downstairs, one bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed with plenty of closet and drawer space. The other bedroom has both a queen size bed and bunk beds with adequate storage space.
LaFollette is just 5 to 10 minutes away (back the way you came in) and there are stores that can supply just about anything you might need. For dining our, we recommend El Pueblito, right at the junction of 25W and Towe String Road.
As I stated before, we've rented property from Joanne on three separate occasions now. Between her, her husband, and her son, there is always someone around to answer questions, offer suggestions, and quickly take care of the few problems we've. Joanne, her husband, and her faithful sidekick, Tanker (a black lab) live just up the road, and her son lives downstairs at Seas the Day. They are great neighbors
If it is a rainy day and the lake would be no fun, then Gatlinburg and all it offers is a short drive south. The Appalachian Museum is interesting and near-by in Clinton, TN. Also, the Knoxville zoo. There are different hikes to do around the area. Four-wheeling is very popular in this area as well. There are miles and miles of trails to explore in the surrounding mountains.
