About the property

Our spacious two bedroom home is located on a hilltop in El Centenario, a suburb 10 miles west of La Paz. The home is air conditioned thru-out and features an open floor plan. An artist designed iron and glass front door opens to an entry foyer that leads to a large Great room with French doors opening to an expansive and private pool terrace. A fully equipped kitchen and laundry room complete with a washer and dryer are available for your use. Both bedrooms include en-suite bathrooms and both have sliding glass doors leading to the pool terrace. You will enjoy over 1,500 sq ft of indoor space plus another 1,500 sq ft of private outdoor terraces, including four ramadas and your own private swimming pool complete with a cascading fountain. ***We have just purchased this home, so feel free to see the reviews of previous guests on property number 309311. In addition to a sun terrace there are numerous shady nooks with comfortable outdoor seating areas and a large built in barbeque. A circular iron staircase leads to a roof top terrace providing an amazing 360 degree panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez, the mountains, the city lights of La Paz and the beautiful sunsets.

The house features granite counter tops, marble tile bathrooms, expansive windows, high ceilings and crown moldings throughout, and is combined with beautiful furnishings and art work creating a luxurious atmosphere for a great relaxing vacation.

Our home is located 15-20 minutes from the center of La Paz, so if you prefer to be in the center of the action our house is not the one you want. Our location is in a very nice quiet residential hillside neighborhood with great views of the city and the ocean and lots of privacy.

No pets, no smoking, and no children under 10. This is not a party house and we ask, in respect to our neighbors, that moderate noise levels be maintained at all times and that quiet hours are observed from 11 pm to 7 am. Beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach mats, beach towels, and ice chest are provided for your use. Our property manager lives in the neighborhood and can assist with any questions you may have. TRAVEL TIP.... While La Paz is an international airport with flights from the U.S., we find that flight schedules and airfares are usually better flying into Cabo, just 90 miles to the South. Rental cars are usually less expensive as well and it is a very nice 2 and a 1/2 hour drive on a four lane highway along the Pacific Coast and through Todo Santos.

My husband and I were looking for a possible retirement place in Mexico, and we were pretty set on finding a place that was beautiful, warm, friendly and yet out of the touristy areas. La Paz provides just what we were looking for, and this house is perfect. We love the idea of having a respite from the crazy real world. We live in Colorado, and although we live in a gorgeous state, there's something about Mexico that has always called to us. The old world charm of La Paz is still evident in the beautiful colonial architecture, and it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities on the Baja. If you have yet to discover La Paz, it's about 90 miles north of Cabo, a city of 250,000, and the capital of the southern Baja with nonstop flights to the U.S. While La Paz has tourism it is not a major part of the economy so far, however that is beginning to change. There are some good sized tourist developments now underway, and the city has recently opened two world class golf courses at very reasonable prices. It is a top destination for travelers looking for great weather, beaches, fishing, diving, snorkeling, boating, windsurfing, hiking, eco-tourism, and more. Cruise Lines are beginning to discover La stops from Holland America, Carnival, Princess and smaller lines such as National Geographic and Safari Cruise Lines.

Why Kathy and Jeff Johnson chose El Centenario

La Paz is a charming colonial city dating back to the 16th century. The heart of the city is the waterfront, with hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shops fronting the city's three mile long seaside boardwalk called the Malecon, which hums with activity day and night, from both locals and visitors alike. Nearby Espiritu Santo (island) is a great day trip and a UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage Site. We thoroughly enjoy poking around in La Paz, with its restaurants, shopping, activities, and its wonderful waterfront walkway, the Malecon, which is far and away the most beautiful we have ever seen, including Puerto Vallarta. But when it came to selecting a home, we wanted more space and something a bit quieter and more private than we could find in town. A view of the Bay, a large terrace, private pool, and a beautiful private garden were also high on our list. The house is built in traditional colonial style complete with a domed cupola in the great room. The property provides lots of privacy with a 10,000 sq ft lot screened by walls and flowering hedges. The two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house, both with ensuite baths, provding the maximum separation and privacy. A rooftop terrace provides a 360 degree panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez, the city of La Paz, the mountains, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets.

We had a fabulous stay here! The owners and property managers are friendly and efficient.

The property manager met us at the door with keys, a fruit basket and wine and beer. We were running late but he was friendly, accomodating and full of local information. The bed was long enough to accommodate my tall husband. He loved the 7 feet tall showers and I loved the soaker tub! We spent a lot of time in the pool. It is great for laps, as well as just bobbing! Around the pool is a hammock, sunbathing lounge chairs, table and chairs for cocktails, benches for company, and a table and chairs for candlelight dinners. The kitchen is easy to use. Everything we needed was provided and handy to use. We prepared many meals while visiting with people in the great room. The washer and dryer came in handy. The backyard is home for many different kinds of birds which we were able to identify through the brochure in the bookcase. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the roof with beautiful views of the sunrise, the ocean and La Paz. This property was quiet which allowed us to relax and really enjoy our vacation! Nearby Balandra Beach is a must do!
