About Virginia Rubsam

With 3 married children and five grandchildren we added a second floor to Fishing Cove to accommodate all of us as well as our friends. When our family isn't using Fishing Cove we offer it to other families so they can enjoy it as much as we do!

Virginia Rubsam purchased this house in 1999

Why Virginia Rubsam chose Eastern Shore

We bought this house because of its PERFECT location. It is only 60 miles from Annapolis so getting there is easy, going from the hustle of city life to perfect peace in an hour's drive. It started out as a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house that we enlarged and improved to fit the needs of our own large extended family. Then we decided to offer it to other large families for their vacations so they can enjoy it too!

What makes this house unique

We have a large house with lots of space for multi-generational family get-togethers. There's something to do for everyone.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed iur stay at the Fishing Cove as well as visiting Layton's Chance Winery and fun things in St. Michaels. The swimming pool was fine in terms of cleanliness and water temp.

The Cambridge location is the heart of the Chesapeake Bay area and is a convenient drive from New York, Philadelphia, Ohio and Florida. Families gather from these and other areas to enjoy everything the Bay has to offer - the wildlife, the ocean and all the historical sites. There are also great restaurants, festivals, 2 world-class waterfront golf courses, tennis and boating of all types. Fishing, Crabbing and boating couldn't be better. Just tie up at our dock and take advantage of it all.

Other Activities: Blackwater Wildlife Refuge

Golf: The River Marsh Golf Club at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort provides golfers a secluded haven to enjoy golf as it's meant to be played -- with classic styling, wide fairways, sculpted bunkers, generous greens and tees to reward and challenge all levels of players. The 17th hole is a par 3 that stretches 200 yards from the tips. Awaiting the bold player is a dramatic carry over Shoal Creek to a large putting surface guarded by three artfully crafted bunkers. The green is backdropped by majestic trees and a stunning vista of the broad Choptank River that flows into Chesapeake Bay.

Clearview at Horn Point's Golf Course is challenging and fun for any level player. You'll enjoy remarkable views of the beautiful Choptank River from several holes on the course. This par 72/73 course plays to just over 6,450 yards from the back tees. With ponds, traps, tree-lined fairways, and firm fast greens, solid ball striking and course management is a must.

Wonderful Family Experience

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from spending a week at fishing cove. The house is beautiful and comfortable. Ginger was very accomodating and I wouldn't hesitate in recomending this property.

Outstanding location. Peaceful, quiet lovely view House needs to be freshened up

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house and location. Beautiful view and so peaceful. Enjoyed watching the birds and crabbing from the dock. Plenty of space for our family. Pool and deck were lovely. Great seating outside and loved the grill! Only complaints- house needs painting, new sofas and new mattress in the master upstairs. Fishing Cove was neat, tidy and clean. Our family agreed that we would love to return.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you liked the house and appreciate your honest feedback. I have ordered a new sofa to be delivered Oct. 19th, and will get a new mattress. The house is scheduled for painting right after Thanksgiving.

Not bad but for end of summer vacation house needs some work

  • 3 of 5

The house is big and accommodated all 8 families easily. It was comfortable and and had plenty of cooking space/kitchenware to use. Its set far back from the road and was very quiet and secluded. Great if you was to escape or need a lot of privacy.

You can tell the home is well used and has a lot of potential if minor updates are done. Main couch in living room is broken and several light bulbs throughout the house were out. We replaced some but couple more to do. The lights in the back yard did not work and the pool cleaner did not work. Pool needed a deep clean and the in-pool light needs replacing. The picnic tables in the back patio are unsafe and well past their usefulness. The wood is warped and one leg is broken that supports the seat bench. Unfortunately we did not spend a lot of time at night on the patio because the bugs just took over. Daytime in the pool was fine and probably the best part of the house. For the price and in that area I expected a little more. Sorry...

Owner's Response: I'm glad you found the house accommodating and well-equipped, and that your family had a good time at Fishing Cove. I appreciate your review so I can replace/repair the items you reported to me. Completely new kitchen cabinets, countertops and appliances will be installed in January. The new sofa and picnic tables have arrived. I had the pool light replaced. I'm surprised to hear that the pool cleaner didn't work. It is scheduled to come on between 3 AM to 6 PM, so needs to be connected at night. My pool service cleans the pool weekly and does a deep scrubbing at the beginning of each season. Dorchester County mosquito control sprays a non toxic product weekly. Thanks again for your review.

Really nice property in a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle for a little while.

  • 4 of 5

The house is very well equipped - especially the kitchen ( it's the first place we have stayed in 14 yrs. that actually had a grill to make pancakes on!) Having pool towels provided was definitely a plus. There was plenty of room to spread out and not be in anybody's way. The pool was the biggest hit. Our grandchildren lived in it for the week. Only down side was the surprising discovery of a wasp's nest under the surrounding bench (which the owner took care of right away when she was told about it.) We did not get to use the row boats due to lack of oars, but they were delivered the day we left, so I know the next family will enjoy paddling around the river. We all really enjoyed our week here. I called it a little like Walden Pond (very peaceful and serene early in the mornings - and then the kids would wake up!)

Owner's Response: HI Becky: I'm so glad you had a wonderful time at Fishing Cove. Thanks for letting me know about the oars, etc. so I could take care of them right away. Thank you for leaving the house in such great shape. My cleaning crew really appreciated that. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the summer, and I hope you return soon.!

Photos do not do this home justice!!! It''s massive!

  • 5 of 5

Can I start by saying my family did not want to leave! This is on the 3rd time renting a vacation home but this is by far my favorite. All of my adult siblings, their partners and children, myself and my mom rented this home for the week and we were in awe!!! We were a family of 19 and had visitors for 2 days making us a total of 22 and there was plenty of room for us to be comfortable. I came with a waffle maker, fan, kitchen utensils and towels but I did not need to use any of it! The house was fully stocked and even had some spices and seasonings. There is a Walmart 15 minutes away and we filled both refrigerators. Can I just say having both refrigerators was a huge plus for all of the food we needed. There were plenty of towels, wash clothes, extra linens, toilet paper and paper towel. Although we did run out of paper towels on our last day but we had come with napkins so that was fine. There were plenty of bathrooms and 2 of the queen bedrooms (with huge bathrooms) were on the ground floor. We never felt like we were on top of each other. We cooked, ate, swam, fished, crabbed, made s'mores, played volleyball, walked, and gamed together. The very large grill had plenty of propane and their were directions for everything to use in the house that we needed. I wish I could post a picture because the view of the river from the ground floor queen suites were phenomenal. The sunny morning views coupled with the wildlife made for incredible sunrises. The kids even caught a lizard. The short walk to the pier allowed the kids to experience jellyfish for the first time. They caught fish which they use for bait to crab with and they loved it! Crab cages were also provided. If it wasn't for the fact that this home is already booked for 4th of July 2018, we were planning to return.

Ginger (owner) answered the phone both times we called for minor questions which was a plus.

I will say not to include the one pullout upstairs for sleeping as it needs some mending and the sofa in the living room downstairs could use some mending as well.

The WiFi gave us some concern in the beginning because it did not always accommodate us and the kids with all of their devices and tablets but when I tell you it made for more family time playing games, swimming and bonding, we did not even notice so my family would like to say thank you for that! We thoroughly enjoyed your home!!!! Come with your bug spray and sun block and leave with memories to cherish for a lifetime!!!
