Ask a questionAbout Bill Bartlett & Mary McNally
We are Mary and Bill. We have been VRBO Property Owners for several years. We started in 2012 with two apartments in San Luis Obispo, near where we live. We really enjoy our interactions with our guests and have great reviews. See for yourself: vrbo.com/439886#reviews. Meanwhile we started vacationing at the Delta to do some waterskiing. We quickly identified Simpson Tract as our favorite place on the Delta. So when a property came available, which they rarely do, we jumped on it. It took us almost a year to close on the River House, but we are very excited about sharing it with you. Thanks for your interest in our property, Mary and Bill

Why Bill Bartlett & Mary McNally chose Walnut Grove
There are certainly other beautiful properties at The Delta. We have stayed at several of them. None offer the level of solitude as does our slice of heaven on Grand Island and Steamboat Slough. Staying on Long Island or the Sacramento River is delightful; however, there is heavy traffic on Highway 160 that creates a surprising amount of noise -- whereas at our place, open the window and you hear birdsong. Also, the Sacramento River has a lot more boat traffic. It is a much wider channel than Steamboat, so your boat is will endure less buffeting in this less-trafficked area. The smooth water up- and downriver here is optimal for waterskiing.
What makes this house unique
We have been vacationing at the Delta for several years. We like this area for it's solitude, smooth water, views of Grand and Ryer Islands, and easy access to Interstate 5, Sacramento, and the charming Delta towns of Rio Vista, Walnut Grove, and Locke. If you simply like to putt around on the water, there are several scenic loops you can make: you can circumnavigate Grand or Ryer Islands, stopping for lunch or ice cream along the way. Or, if you like waterskiing or wake boarding, there are several sloughs and rivers to choose from, many of which are away from the crowds. You can hum along for several hours and see very few other boats. A favorite venture of ours is to boat around the North and South forks of the Mokelumne River out of Walnut Grove. This also provides access to the Delta Loop. Both are scenic; the Mokelumne River has great flat water. Another favorite area is the Cross Delta Channel and Snodgrass Slough near popular Delta stops like Giusti's, Wimpy's, and the Delta Meadows State Park. If you are not quite as adventurous, you can simply hop into your boat and be fishing or tubing/skiing/boarding/surfing within 100 yards of our 22' x 32' dock. There is some great water between Simpson Tract (where the River House is located) and the Ryer Island Ferry. South of the ferry is Hogback Island and some more great recreational waterways. Just south of Hogback is Snug Harbor. There is a gas dock there and a small convenience store. To the north, there are smaller sloughs, Miner, Sutter, and Steamboat, with few boats and beautiful, smooth water.
