About Tanja Gutenmorgen
I fell in love with this property. We are a travel & property management agency and we handpick who we do business with very carefully. The owners of the Villa, Elda, Dinko and son Ivan are such a warmhearted people! One feels more like a friend there, rather than the renter. They are very sophisticated people, full of good energy. I cherish their high-end customer service, which is a rare find on the island :-) They used to live in South Africa for a very long time so they know what guest satisfaction, customer service and friendliness is all about. They love plants and olive trees and Ivan and Dinko lovingly take care of the garden around the villa - they do it in the early morning hours, while guests are still asleep. Elda on the other hand cooks like in Heaven, so it is easy to fall in love with the local food - many guest order her catering service over and over again. The best thing is, she cooks with love and attention, and one can really taste the difference. They have an eco-garden at home and most of the vegetables and fruit comes from there, so be ready for a real treat. Sometimes guest want fish and meat to be prepared in the villa, so Dinko and Ivan come and do the BBQ in front of the guest. This is the time when you will find out a lot about the local life, great tips and tricks, local attractions that official travel guides know nothing of and most interestingly, the way local people live nowadays. This is an inspiring story and I myself often think of the wisdom and rituals local people practice there. This is how they keep a vital longevity and extremely good mood!

Why Tanja Gutenmorgen chose Vela Luka
Villa Dionysus is placed in a bay very well protected bay from the winds, so many sailing boats like to spend a night in the bay. This creates a magical picture when the sun comes down - local people like to say that in this bay one can see the most beautiful sunset on the Island! We believe that at the end, it is not about the property. It is about enjoying the simple things in life. Spending time with family and friends, enjoying good food, appreciating all that beautiful nature has to offer. Here our guests can reconnect with themselves, with the nature, leave behind their stresses and discover what truly matters to them in life. The stage is set. It is yours to make an appearance. And make it memorable...
What makes this Villa unique
Hosts offer 5-star service in arranging deliveries of fresh food (the day’s seafood, fruits and vegetables), restaurant reservations, wine tastings and olive oil-lavendar massages at the villa’s spa. There is nothing like having a massage on the pool terrace with the view of the sea! Feel free to send us a list of groceries with which you wish us to stock the villa for you. Enjoy this quite, peaceful surrounding, away from it all, yet in a direct vicinity of many cultural, natural and artistic points of interest.

Special villa in a stunning Bay!
This is a very special Villa in a very special location. The Villa is immaculate, there's lots of space. We spent our days by the pool, and also wandering down through the lovely garden to the bay for a swim. Tihana, the owner, was so friendly and helpful and made our stay there really easy. The restaurant Siloko just is a short stroll (2 minutes) along the waterfront, so we enjoyed wandering there at night. The Villa has all the facilities and entertainment you need. A very relaxing holiday destination.
Good privacy and beautiful ocean view
We had a very relaxing stay in a very private villa with wonderful ocean views and ocean access. Swimming in the warm Adriatic was a delight. The amenities at the villa were wonderful (pool, sauna, game room, lovely outdoor areas, lovely views) and the hosts were very accommodating.
Cozy and very clean villa
Wonderful time away. Very relaxing holidays in a cozy and very clean villa with excellent facilities and friendly owners. Villa is on a great location and has beautiful ocean view and access to the sea. There is also a lovely small town Vela Luka, just a short drive away.
It would be great if there were a little more lighting in the patio area. And I also suggest that you should let the potential rentals know that the owners are willing to meet them in Vela Luka and guide them to the villa. I drove from Zadar to Vela Luka instead of taking the ferry from Split because the ferry arrived in Vela Luka after dark. I didn't think I could easily find the villa in the dark, so I chose to drive so that I could arrive before dark and, so, more easily find the villa. The ferry is a much better option if there is someone to guide you to the villa.
Stunning villa with amazing view of the ocean
I enjoyed with my family in fabulous villa with exceptional views, ocean at the bottom of the garden and great weather. Family holiday on this quiet location was very relaxing and the weather was great. I suggest you send better travel information, because it was very difficult to find the villa. Owner waiting in Vela Luka and driving in front of you would be even a better solution.
Stunning ocean view villa
Excellent, amazing. This is a stunning villa in a perfect location with the ocean at the bottom of the garden. It was exceptionally clean and well equipped, everything you could possibly need for a wonderful holiday. It was exactly as described, in fact better than we could have hoped for. The owners were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were fantastic and the games room went down a treat.
There is a lovely seafood restaurant just a one minute stroll from the villa and some equally good places to eat in Vela Luka.
This villa is a must if you are a large group or family. Fantastic. I would suggest flying to Split as it's a much easier journey than Dubrovnik.
Croatia is renowned for its awe inspiring seaside, thousands of Islands (which makes it a dream sailing destination), fascinating history, gastronomic delights, fine wines and architectural masterpieces.
Island of Korcula fills people with inspiration, creativity and enormous energy which come from the combination of the fascinating lush pine forests, postcard-like turquoise crystal clear sea and the welcoming care of local people.
What to discover in Korcula and its surroundings?
- Medieval Korcula old town, being 45 km distanced from the Villa Dionysus, retains charming authenticity of old Venetian coastal town with protective city walls and towers.
- if glamour and sophistication sound up your street this summer, then head to Dubrovnik (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, 140 km away), where famous summer festival takes place each year with the best actors, singers and dancers of the world
- head with Catamaran (1 hour) to the island of Hvar, called also Croatia’s Saint Tropez – glamorous palms, fancy yachts, party cocktail bars and amazing old town with neighboring private islands attract many of the world celebrities – so head up for a day trip and drink a coffee on a famous promenade and look for your favorite film star…
- National park Mljet (unspoiled island with untouched nature, 2 salty lakes and interesting history)) 60 km away.
- Boat trip to Split
- Island Hopping
- Trekking and Hiking
- Wine tasting
- Scuba diving
- Wind surfing
We absolutely recommend a drive to the Pupnat bay (Pupnatska Luka - a bay with a beautiful pebble beach), where you can have a great swim.
Korcula Island is a central Dalmatian island with an area of 270 km2 (46.5 km length, 5-8 km width ).
Gradina Bay is about 45 km away from Korcula town, famous for its knight games with swords (called Moreska), which are a great tourist attraction, especially for children.
It takes place in the beautiful old town in an open theater under the stars.
After the knight games you can enjoy a cocktail in the 'Massimo' bar in the tower of the old city walls, to where you have to climb the ladder (ladies beware – skirts not recommended).
For the end of the evening treat yourself with dinner in an authentic atmosphere in one of the restaurants with a sea view, and you will experience a great trip!
You may also wish to go on day trip to the island Proizd, because the beaches are truly breathtaking, not to mention the lovely experience of sailing with the boat.
Proizd was chosen as the 'Best beach of Croatia' in year 2007 by Croatian tourist authorities - We would quite agree with the selection! :)
We recommend that you take with you a sun shade, water and some food, although there is one (and only) restaurant on the island.
We also recommend that you rent a boat in Vela Luka, and then catch your own dinner, not forgetting to enjoy the privacy of little bays and secluded beaches, reachable only by boat.
HOW TO REACH US
Villa Dionysus is only 4 km away from Vela Luka, or about 40 km from Korcula town.
The most convenient airports are those in Dubrovnik and Split. In order to make the most of your trip, we recommend hiring a car - all the main car hire companies have desks at Dubrovnik and Split airports (this is a good and affordable agency: http://dubrovnik.airport-car-hire.net/cheap-car-hire-dubrovnik.html).
There are regular ferry services between Split and Vela Luka or from Dubrovnik to Korcula town.
a) Flying to Dubrovnik: if you choose to fly to beautiful, medieval Dubrovnik you can drive to Orebic town (on the Peljesac peninsula), where the local ferry to Korcula goes every 30 minutes. It takes only 15 minutes to cross from Orebic town to Domince port (Korcula), and from there you have 40 km to reach us.
b) Flying to Split: a car ferry from Split to Vela Luka goes twice a day, it takes about 2.5 hours to get to Vela Luka (Korcula). Once per day there is a Catamaran (passengers only) going from Split to Vela Luka directly (2 hours).
The Split option is faster, but Dubrovnik is a more scenic trip. Once you arrive to Vela Luka, Villa Dionysus is only a short 5 minute drive from the town center.
