Lake House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8)
Relax and enjoy our quaint, retro 1400 SqFt, 3-bedroom lakefront home with beautiful views of one of Pennsylvania’s most pristine lakes, visible from the front porch or through the large picture window in the living room.
Nestled in the rolling Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Crystal Lake is a private, 45 acre, spring-fed lake located minutes from Elk Mountain Ski Resort. Our one-story home includes an eat-in kitchen, a dining area and a cozy living room with a fireplace that looks out over the lake.
The master bedroom has a king size bed, the second bedroom has a double bed plus twin bunk, and the third has two twins – sleeps 8. Crystal Lake is a private (not open for public use) family-friendly lake located just over 2 hours from both Philadelphia and New York City.
In the summer, you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water, sunbathing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding & canoeing. You may prefer just relaxing on the lakefront dock and front porch, or taking a leisurely walk, run or bike ride along the scenic 2.8-mile road that follows the perimeter of the lake.
For something more challenging, you can mountain bike or hike Elk Mountain, or bike the 40+ miles of Rail-Trails that run throughout the region. For the golf enthusiast, there are five public golf courses within 6 miles, including the nearby Scottish Glen, a 9-hole course situated on the lake with beautiful views of Elk Mountain. Many of the area courses cost less than $20 for 18 holes of golf.
While the charm and quiet of Crystal Lake is the draw, there are many other activities in the area. There are dozens of antique stores, particularly in the Fleetville area. One of the largest and most well known is The Carriage Barn, which has been featured in Country Living Magazine. Shopping is plentiful in Dickson City just 25 minutes away (20 miles). Here you'll find Veiwmont Mall, anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny’s and Sears, and many discount stores, such as, Target, Wal-mart, Sam’s, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, K-mart, Best Buy and Wegman’s. You will also find many popular chain restaurants in this area, such as, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Uno, Friday’s and more. There are movie theaters and bowling alleys as well. In nearby Scranton, the Steamtown Mall (23 miles) and the new upscale outlet mall, Shoppes at Montage (29 miles), are also great for shopping.
Local restaurants on the lake and within a mile include Oliveri’s, Fern Hall and Crystal Pines. Many others are located nearby in Carbondale, Union Dale, Clarks Summit and Scranton, all within a short 5 to 25 minute drive.
Other attractions include, Montage Mountain Water Park, the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, Scranton Iron Furnaces, Steamtown National Historic Site, the Houdini Museum, Scranton Cultural Center, Electric Car Trolley Station & Museum, Anthracite Heritage Museum, Lackawanna State Park and the Archibald Pothole State Park. PNC field in Scranton is home to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the Class-AAA Minor League Baseball affiliate of the New York Yankees.
In the fall, you will enjoy the colorful foliage and quiet peacefulness of the lake. There are also a number of local events including Oktoberfest at Elk Mountain and the Steamtown Marathon.
The main draw in winter is skiing and snowboarding at Elk Mountain, Pennsylvania’s finest ski resort with 1000 feet of vertical drop and 100% snowmaking coverage. Montage Mountain, which also features snowtubing is located nearby (30 miles) just off Route 81. The lake and surrounding area are great for ice-skating, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice fishing. The nearby Rail-Trails are also great for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. NEP Sno Trails grooms the trail system in the winter and issues trail passes that are required for snowmobiling.

Why Kate chose Carbondale
Our family has had a home on Crystal Lake for over 50 years....it is our "special place." Karolyn and I knew we wanted to continue to spend summers and winters at the lake as our family expanded.

Awesome Views/Comfortable Accommodations!!
Brought the family & some close friends up for a ski/getaway weekend. House worked out perfectly for our us. Loved the lake view from the Family Room, (and that blazing fireplace). Drive to Elk Mtn. was a breeze. House was clean & well-maintained, & Kate was very accommodating to some of our specific needs. Booked the property again this season, (at my friend's insistence), & looking forward to it!! Also contemplating a rental this summer to take advantage of the activities available on stunning Crystal Lake, including the front porch view and their dock on the lake.
Perfectly Charming!
This was a very comfortable, vintage home. The only negative review had concerned me, but I didn't find it to be accurate. The king is a platform bed with a decent mattress. It was comfortable. Elk mountain is an easy trip. The views are amazing. I loved the kitchen and hope they don't change it!
Lovely house with all the comforts of home
We have rented this home the past 2 winters for a ski weekend at Elk Mountain. We have found the house comfortable and cozy. The kitchen has all the amenities. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The house is an easy drive from Elk Mountain, the perfect place to come "home" to after a day on the slopes. The views from the house are amazing. The owners have been easily accesible and responsive.
Perfect Family Getaway
A perfect family get away. We are excited to be renting this lovely home for the 4th time! We cannot get enough of the wonderful lake views and all that there is to do. From the swimming and lake activities in the summer to the fantastic skiing close by in the winter, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This very cozy, cottage style home is neat and clean with plenty of room for our family of six to relax and sleep in comfort. Love the retro kitchen too! The owner is a delight and very accommodating. We are looking forward to being back!
A disappointment!
35 days after our stay, following repeated calls, security deposit finally arrived. Owner claimed to be so busy. Furnishings in living room and bedrooms need to be replaced. Leather furniture in L R is so dilapidated, vintage 60's, you sank to floor if tried to sit. MBR King no box spring..two particle boards beneath awful mattress. Full bed totally dilapidated! Sleeping was uncomfortable to say the least for my husband and I. Lighting is so poor and dim..impossible to read (or apply makeup) in bedrooms or living room. (Bring your own high wattage bulbs if you want to see) We ate all meals out..so no comment on kitchen. Would not recommend if you want to sleep comfortably or to relax in the living area. Too bad, because it is a quaint, old, clean cottage with nice view. Could have been the perfect get-away for the two of us! Badly in need of furniture replacement. Seems unfair to rent at top price when furniture is so old.
A charming step back in time!
As a "baby boomer" I found this cottage and lake community enchanting! I have spent many summer vacations at Crystal Lake, and loved the opportunity to stay in one of the older cottages a treat.
