About Robert Cloos
Hello, Welcome to "Red's Retreat"! Well!...... Who is Red? I am Robert and I co-own & manage "Red's Retreat" with my father, Red Cloos. "Red" is the nickname of my 97 year old father, who has red hair, actually not really red anymore, but he still has a full head of hair! This cabin was hand built starting in 2002 and has been enjoyed by the Cloos family and our friends and acquaintances for many years and last year we decided that it was time to share this "dream" getaway, built by my father, with discriminating "guests". You see, "Red", was born and raised in Northern Pennsylvania near the New York border, in Tioga County. My father's father was a Pennsylvania Fish Warden so "Red" grew up a fisherman, and evolved into an exceptional fly fisherman who handcrafted his own fly rods, tied his own flies, and waded many streams up to his waist in hip waders, including the Big Laramie River.
Robert Cloos purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Robert Cloos chose Woods Landing-Jelm
Red fly fished this whole area and was introduced to the Scandinavian immigrant Matriarch "Mayme Lewellen" whom was the widow of both Clarence Lewellen and later Hokum Lestrum whom together owned all of the river front property in this area including the Woods Landing Resort, which they built. Mayme really liked my Dad so she offered to lease this 2.3 acre riverside lot to my father for a 99 years in 1970. So "Red" leased this lot and he and my late Mother, Irene" brought their Prowler travel trailer here, dug a water well, and for many years enjoyed the peaceful serenity and "Red" fly fished the Big Laramie River . Only much later in 1986 did Mayme offer to sell him this property and he bought it outright. It wasn't until the year 2000 when they decided to build this magnificent cabin! Upon retiring as a corporate jet Captain in 2014, I invested quite a bit of money in personally remodeling and re-building Dad's cabin and building a "new" garage.
What makes this Cabin unique
-"Quiet" except for the sound of the Big Laramie River - 2.3 acres of riverfront property - Wrapped deck for entertaining and relaxation - Very "private" location away from neighbors - Accessible year-round - Rustic "elegance" with aged knotty pine wood predominately throughout
