Nice gite in a rural setting just outside Sarlat La Caneda
I think the gite is a converted barn that belonged to the house at the bottom of the valley. The outlook is lovely across rolling hills and a few other nice places dotted around. We liked the donkeys in the field opposite, my husband kept feeding them! There is some traffic noise from a main road across the valley and there is the occasional car going to the hotel/ guesthouse at the bottom of the road. It didn’t bother us though.
The accommodation is one large room downstairs with kitchen at one end, with the utility room and downstairs shower room bisected by the stairs with the living / dining room. It was cold so we used the fire.
There are two bedrooms upstairs, we only use the main bedroom, the bed is large and comfortable.
The floor is very creaky, being wooden, which was tedious at night if one of us got up, but tolerable.
The bathroom upstairs has a macerating toilet which took some getting used to.
The shower was good downstairs, we didn’t use the upstairs one.
Irritatingly it took me almost the whole week to find the mugs which were in the plate cupboard rather than in the cup cupboard and there are only two large tumblers for a beer or my gin and tonic!
Do a trip to the supermarket on your way in as there is nothing to eat in the gite ( often you get bread or milk) and who wants to go out again once you’ve got comfortable!
We enjoyed our trip and would be happy to come again.
