Immaculate, bright home with ivy and geranium-filled window boxes and borders, less than a quarter mile to Cape Cod Bay at Rock Harbor. Follow a private road to walk, bike or drive to the harbor. Spectacular sunsets at Rock Harbor are often accompanied by a steel band. The charter fishing fleet is the largest on the east coast. Watch them come in and unload the day's catch. Short drive or walk across the flats at low tide to Skaket Beach. Get a license, dig and steam your own clams. Less than a mile to the center of town and bike trail. More Guest Book Comments: 'Thanks so much for all the wonderful, thoughtful touches in this wonderful house - we've come to the Cape for nearly 15 years this was the best ever !! We loved being so close to the bike trails and Coast Guard Beach. Loved the Rock Harbor sunsets and all the peace and quiet here.' Joe, Carol and Sam....................'Thank you very much for the wonderful week. We were so comfortable in this house. Your 'thoughtful touches' have been appreciated (i.e. the bed railing, child-proofing the basement and the screen door, the books, ... the list could go on forever). Our favorite memories will include biking on the rail trail, catching hermit crabs in the tidal pools, watching the boats coming and going, seeing the sunset below the horizon while listening to the steel band. .... We spent many mornings at Skaket Beach. What a perfect beach for children.' .......Kim, Steve, Benjamin and Jonathon
We stayed in this cottage for the second year in a row- as soon as our first magical vacation week ended, we decided to return the following year. It had everything we hoped for and more - from the library of Disney videos and DVDs for our kids, to a washer and dryer in the basement and a clothesline and outdoor shower in the yard, to a kitchen complete with everything from coffee pot to lobster pot, cheese board to frozen beer mugs, muffin tins to wooden skewers - we have young children and cook our meals at home, and always found exactly what we needed in the cupboards and drawers. The house is exceptionally clean - the oven glistens, the bathroom tile gleams, even the gas grill and garage are pristine. It's like being the guest of an exceptionally thoughtful and hospitable host - the owners have anticipated everything you might need or want for a comfortable stay. One evening they even brought over a delicious cucumber and tomato salad from their garden. We enjoyed nightly ice cream and desserts at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow and bike rides to the beach every day. The stores in Orleans are a mile away, so we could run out to the drugstore or fish market and be back in no time at all. There are also a fish market and restaurant in Rock Harbor, a very short walk on side roads from the house. The bike path is approximately one mile away, and we felt safe biking on the road between house and path with our kids in trailers. The yard both in front and back is flat and roomy, so the kids spent lots of time running around. We recommend this cottage with no reservations and are hoping to return next year!
This cottage is well-maintained and very clean. There is no air conditioning, but, I noted that this is the very first time I have gone on vacation and have not returned home with a cough. It was very pleasant to have the fans on and the windows open. The owners were wonderful in helping us with whatever we needed; they even gave us some cucumbers from their own garden. Our family had a wonderful stay. With the short distance from both Rock Harbor and Skaket Beach, we were able to ride our bicycles to and from these places. We also enjoyed the Cape Cod Bike Trail. The cottage is located centrally among attractions and restaurants. One of the restaurants we enjoyed (Moby Dick's) and the drive-in movie theatre were just a short drive to Wellfleet. But my husband and I definitely agree that the best lobster roll is right at Rock Harbor at Cap't Cass. With the beautiful seascapes, comfy setting, and incredibly nice people, we will be staying at this cottage each year, until we outgrow it!
