Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Miles of deserted white sand beaches await your discovery. This charming casita is located in the East Cape region of Baja California Sur, atop a breeze-catching knoll overlooking the rest of the large beachfront property. The beach is only 100 meters from your front door! Walking distance to the only restaurant/bar in the area with live musical entertainment every Saturday night.

Great bird watching in the surrounding desert. Whale watch from your patio or charter a boat with one of the local fishermen. Dive or snorkel right off the beach or drive 17 miles to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, site of the only hard coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. There you can dive with huge schools of fish, morbula rays, whale sharks, goliath groupers and hammerhead sharks.

Kite or wind surf launching right out front! Humpback whales pass on their way North as you enjoy a cocktail on the large shaded patio.

Minimize your carbon footprint while you vacation in this solar-powered home! Owners are knowledgeable about local tourism services, natural history and are bilingual. Ask about our catering service, in-room massage and yoga instruction.

Stay for a week or longer and receive our special discounted rate. We have also hosted weddings and the casita provides the ideal location for the bridal party to get ready while the groom bites his nails down at the main house.

About Dawn Pier

Dawn and Tony moved to the beach on the Sea of Cortez because of their love for the ocean and isolation of their desert retreat. Dawn moved from Canada to work in conservation in Cabo Pulmo National Park and Tony came here from the San Francisco Bay area because of his love of sailing. They met here and together designed and built the guest house that has become their vacation rental.

Dawn Pier purchased this house in 2000

Why Dawn Pier chose Baja California Sur

Tony bought this property because it has one of the most spectacular views of the surrounding area and the Sea of Cortez that he could find AND it's RIGHT ON THE BEACH! The tropical climate and low density development are what drew us to the East Cape of Baja. We wanted to get away from it all and that is exactly what this place allows us to do. There are no other houses visible to the North of our property and our neighbors to the South are only here part-time, so we rarely see a soul. The beach here is incredible...just sand and more sand.

What makes this house unique

Waking up to the sun rising over the Sea of Cortez is a very special way to start the day. A big plus of where we live is that we are completely independent...we live off the grid, which means that we produce our own power and have water delivered by truck from one of the local ranches. I love that we produce all our energy from the sun!! And still live with all the creature comforts. Amazing!

Great place, fair price, quiet and comfortable. We will be back! Thanks Dawn!

We really enjoyed your little slice of paradise Dawn! While we didn't get the chance to meet you, Manny and Roberto cared well for the property in your absence. We explored every day and enjoyed coming back to the Casita and relaxing in the hammocks or cooking a meal or walking the beach out front. Looking forward to our next stay!

A Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the casita and recommend it highly to those considering a stay there. The photos don't do the casita justice. It is a perfect space, with everything you need and nothing you don't. We spent hours enjoying the outdoor space, eating outside, reading in the hammock, or watching the moon rise.

The nearby beaches were GORGEOUS and completely deserted. Heaven!

It was a joy to get to know Dawn, and her groundskeeper, Roberto, was friendly and helpful, too.

A highlight of the trip was getting to know the resident dogs, Millie, sweet Kali, and ever-smiling little Peanut; those three were a wonderful welcoming committee and a bright spot for our stay.

We'd love to come back soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Melissa! We're thrilled that you enjoyed everything so much and that the casita exceeded your expectations. The moon rises over the Sea of Cortez this past week were a gift from Mother Nature, so we won't take credit, but they are a great treat. We look forward to your return!

Cute casita with adorable pups, on a lovely, quiet part of the Baja coast

  • 5 of 5

Love this part of the world... We enjoyed our stay here. The current foster dogs, Millie and Kali, were sweet and adorable. It was a windy couple of days, but a nice beach 2 miles south (recommended in Dawn's notes) was sheltered and empty and great.

The dirt road drive here from San Jose is not bad at all — much less jarring than the coast road from SJ to Zacatitos, etc. The casita is set back a bit from the (newer, grander) main house, but still has a nice view of the water and hills. All the beaches that I've seen in this area are a bit steep/sloshy (from a big storm a few years ago, I've heard?), but you can walk a nice long way south on the beach from here and see a ton.

There was no internet in the casita, but using it from the main house veranda was a nice backup. All the water/electric/etc system worker just fine. Great grill setup. Plenty of shade in the hot weather. I do think some nice warmer-color-temp light bulbs would do wonders for the interior atmosphere. Thanks, Dawn!

Owner's Response: Thank you Stephanie for your review and helpful feedback! We are working on getting the wifi signal back up and running at the casita. Unfortunately, it requires a trip North to the states, which I have not been able to make. The beaches here are dynamic and change with each southern swell. You arrived just after we'd had a nice little southern swell that gave us some fun waves and, unfortunately, chopped away the face of the beaches. It's back to being smooth and gradual all the way down to the water's edge again. I will definitely take your advice on the interior lighting!!
