Miles of deserted white sand beaches await your discovery. This charming casita is located in the East Cape region of Baja California Sur, atop a breeze-catching knoll overlooking the rest of the large beachfront property. The beach is only 100 meters from your front door! Walking distance to the only restaurant/bar in the area with live musical entertainment every Saturday night.
Great bird watching in the surrounding desert. Whale watch from your patio or charter a boat with one of the local fishermen. Dive or snorkel right off the beach or drive 17 miles to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, site of the only hard coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. There you can dive with huge schools of fish, morbula rays, whale sharks, goliath groupers and hammerhead sharks.
Kite or wind surf launching right out front! Humpback whales pass on their way North as you enjoy a cocktail on the large shaded patio.
Minimize your carbon footprint while you vacation in this solar-powered home! Owners are knowledgeable about local tourism services, natural history and are bilingual. Ask about our catering service, in-room massage and yoga instruction.

Dawn and Tony moved to the beach on the Sea of Cortez because of their love for the ocean and isolation of their desert retreat. Dawn moved from Canada to work in conservation in Cabo Pulmo National Park and Tony came here from the San Francisco Bay area because of his love of sailing. They met here and together designed and built the guest house that has become their vacation rental.
Dawn Pier purchased this house in 2000
Tony bought this property because it has one of the most spectacular views of the surrounding area and the Sea of Cortez that he could find AND it's RIGHT ON THE BEACH! The tropical climate and low density development are what drew us to the East Cape of Baja. We wanted to get away from it all and that is exactly what this place allows us to do. There are no other houses visible to the North of our property and our neighbors to the South are only here part-time, so we rarely see a soul. The beach here is incredible...just sand and more sand.
Waking up to the sun rising over the Sea of Cortez is a very special way to start the day. A big plus of where we live is that we are completely independent...we live off the grid, which means that we produce our own power and have water delivered by truck from one of the local ranches. I love that we produce all our energy from the sun!! And still live with all the creature comforts. Amazing!
Casa del Amanecer provided the perfect setting for our wedding ceremony. Dawn, the homeowner is amazing, she went above and beyond to make our day so special. When we decided that we wanted to have an East Cape wedding this past winter, we could not have envisioned a better place to have it then at Dawn's beach house. The grounds were beautiful which I am sure is a testament to how much hard work she has put in over the years to make it that way. The flowers were gorgeous and better than any we could have imagined. Everything was so wonderful and surreal that day. The house was spotless. The beach was perfect. We used the casita for the bridal party, and the main house for the groom. It worked out so we were able to get ready and not see each other prior to ceremony. The property more than accommodated our 30+ guests, including kids and grandparents. The patio with the palapa overlooking the beach was perfect for our post-ceremony champagne toasts and appetizers.
Overall, I would highly recommend this location for a wedding. We were able to exchange vows and get married in a setting that we will never forget. Thank you, Dawn! We look forward to visiting during our annual trips to the East Cape for years to come.
The Casa del Amanecer was exactly as described. Very close to a huge stretch of a private swimable beach. Lots of privacy, we had a great long walks on the empty beach. It was really the kind of holidays that we needed. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything to make the stay enjoyable. It was really the kind of holidays that we needed. I can not stop sharing the beauty of this experience.
My only suggestion to make the experience even better is adding locks on the doors. We used sleeping in the locked house and I did not feel very comfortable without it. Also the sound of the rough waves crashing at night sounds similar to the sound of the opening door, what made me to wake up multiple times at night.
My wife and I spent a week here and it was great. The Casita is very spacious and well equipped and the beach was very nice. Dawn was very helpful with questions and recommendations, and she keeps a nice gaggle of cute and friendly dogs around which was great because we were missing our own dog who we left back home! One word of caution is that the bed was too soft for us. It wasn't a crummy bed, just too soft for us, so if your back requires a firmer bed you might want to reconsider, otherwise this is a GREAT spot!!!
Whales and snorkeling in February at the casita . . . perfecto! The casita was lovely, with a beautiful view, cool breeze and terrific beach. Surf was too big for swimming from the casita but there's a nice inlet just up the coast. Snorkeling and whale watching at Cabo Pulmo were the highlights. Dawn gives great recommendations, too!
My husband and I spent a week at the casita for our honeymoon. Really enjoyed seeing the whales pass by, the beautiful ocean view and the relaxing setting. We drove north several times to Cabo Pulmo and enjoyed the town, the food at the restaurants and were planning to go whale watching/snorkeling. We ended up spending an afternoon at the Playa just south of Cabo Pulmo and we recommend that beach and hiking trail to visitors. PLEASE.....PAY ATTENTION to Dawn's directions on getting to the Casista. We did not and had a crazy drive from San Jose to the casita the night we arrived taking the coast highway instead of the recommended desert highway.
Great place to unplug and unwind from our very busy lives.
Lovely casita in a very secluded setting. Good place for relaxing and taking long walks on the beach! The swimming is good, but with a steep dropoff, so not recommended for children. The casita has a large porch with an awesome ocean view, and we saw whales passing by. Dawn was very welcoming and helpful. The internet at the casita was not working during our stay, but Dawn let us sit on her beautiful terrace and use her wifi.
