About Mike and Mel
We are a blended family, combined we have 4 children, but we claim 5. He may not be the son-in-law yet, but we consider him so. The oldest is our beautiful daughter, and then we have 3 boys. Their ages range from 27 to 16. We met several years ago on a dating site, Match .com, and she ignored the first several attempts at connecting, because I apparently had an obnoxious profile, but finally persistence prevailed, and neither of us has had a regret since! We are living our "Forever Life" with one another and our awesome kids. We hope that when people choose to stay at our cabin that they feel at home like we do. We hope to extend a little of our home to yours.

Why Mike and Mel chose Broken Bow
Broken Bow is an amazing area, and is full of family fun entertainment, but is also the perfect girls/guys night getaway that is "just far enough" from home to make it an adventure, but not break the bank! That is why we chose to buy in the area, and this is part of our retirement plan, but we are not there yet, so we thought we would share for a while, and let other families, and groups make some amazing memories here too.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our cabin is special in so many ways, but one of my most favorite features is that it is the only cabin in the area with a screened in porch. If you want to sit outside, but the mosquitos like your blood type, or you like to sit out in the rain like we do, then you will fall in love with this too.

stranded outside because of inadequate door code
Initially tried to book with another website, but was automatically cancelled due to their failure to respond. Owner rude/defensive when i tried to confirm this booking via message.
We arrived at 530 pm, already very dark. The code did not work for the door, and the two phone numbers provided went straight to voicemail. We were in the dark with two young children, locked outside for over half an hour before the owner responded. Apparently the weather can impact the egficacy of the code, an issue which should have been checked into more proactively.
Prior to arrival, we were unaware that two rooms are joined, which presented considerable inconvenience. my young child opened and read through the guest book, which contained expletives that i had to explain.
Lots of extremely defensive, laminated signs around alerting guests that if the fridge does nit work, it is the guests' fault. If the wifi does not work, not the owner's fault, etc.
My husband had to use what appeared to be a Tide cap to drink water from, which we found in the cabinet. Be sure to bring your own drinkware, especially if you have a large group.
There was a used band aid left on the floor of one of the bedrooms when we were finally able to enter.
This guest chose not to leave a voicemail and alert us. And, a voicemail not left is a voicemail not answered. It took them 20 more minutes to finally reach out via text (to the same number) which was our very first indication of a problem. We remotely opened the door and in four minutes they were in. We then rebooted the locking mechanisms to prevent any additional issues for their visit. The rest of their stay was uneventful and upon checkout, had no complaints at all!
After their departure, we received an unusually high cleaning bill, which prompted a call to our cleaners. Their report was daunting. No effort to clean up after themselves. Food in furniture, kitchen all covered with sticky hard baking substances, refrigerator required maintenance due to misuse. And in violation of the Pet Policy, dog hair on beds, furniture, even on top of green felt gaming table! Two beds and bedding (mattresses, covers, and comforters) had to be steam cleaned and deodorized due to pet urine soaking through a comforter, and sheets were replaced. While Away Lodge was a mess.
It was only after deducting their deposit for damages, did the guest suddenly proclaim all these other “issues” with their stay at While Away. We did not even deduct the total cost of damages, only the stated, and agreed to, fines in the pet policy.
We’ve had years of positively reviewed leasing with our second home, While Away Lodge and everyone seems to have a great time and treats it with the same care and respect we give it. In a rare instance like this one, the opposite occurs, we have to tell the guest they will not be welcome back. We wish them well.
Great location, property owners very attentive, lots of room it is in a good location.
Stayed here for three days with my wife, 3 Daughters, 2 Son-in-Laws, and 4 Grandkids. Had a great time.
