Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

The house is 1,650 square feet and sits one one wooded acre. The house has the popular 'reverse' floor plan (living area upstairs with bedroom areas downstairs). The house sits on a cove of the Albarmarle Sound.

There is a 110 foot private walkway from the house to a dock with a gazebo. The house and gazebo face south-west offering beautiful sunsets. A porch off the kitchen faces the woods and offers a quiet serenity not often found at the beach. The beach (Atlantic Ocean) is less than a mile away and there is a bicycle path that runs in front of the 'Sound Crab', by the Wright Memorial ending at the major ocean access point in Kill Devil Hills.

The house is tastefully decorated. There is an extraordinary amount of glass to take advantage of the sound and woods views. The kitchen is well equipped and contains all modern appliances. The house is far enough off the road (that dead ends less than 100 feet in a cul-de-sac) that traffic is rarely heard.

The house is wired for the internet.

There is a virtual tour available with the 'Sound Crab's sister house the 'Beach Crab'(also on VRBO (#142260)). The virtual tour and a more extensive write-up (and directions) can be found at the attached web address.

Absolutely Wonderful !!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This property is absolutely amazing. The pictures are truly reflective of what you will see on arrival. It is quiet and so relaxing, which was exactly what we needed. David, the owner, was wonderful to work with and really helped us with any questions, as this was our first time renting and traveling to this area. I loved the pier and sitting there relaxing and fishing. Anything I could ask for in my own home was readily available in this home. I will definitely rent here ago. Thank you so much for everything.

Great OBX house on the sound

  • 5 of 5

My son, his partner and I had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Sound Crab. It's on that sound and close to the ocean. The house is immaculate with wonder decks on two levels. There is great space for togetherness and also lots of nooks and crannies for alone time.

We enjoyed watching various raptors fish for their dinner. There is a biking/walking path right in front of the house. We enjoyed the Wright memorial, the beach and unique restaurants and bars.

Relaxing family vacation house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last year and loved every moment. My family and I rented this house last year and had a wonderful get a way. The house is clean and inviting. The views of the sound was beautiful. Hang out on the deck watch the sunset. Sip on your glass of wine while the kids ran around the back, and the boys fished and crabbed. Great vacation home for families.

Sound crab was a great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the sound crab. The home was extremely clean and comfortable. The views of the sound were spectacular. The location was close to all amenities yet off the beaten path where we were able to settle in to the quiet and peaceful surroundings. Dave, the owner, was very informative and right there to answer any questions we had. Felt like home! We are looking forward to our next trip back to the outer banks and the sound crab.

We love the Sound Crab!

  • 4 of 5

The Sound Crab was a great place to stay and we will likely rent it again the next time we visit the OBX. It had everything we needed and the views are so amazing. The sunsets are spectacular! It is close to everything but nestled back in a very quiet neighborhood. The walking trail is great and we loved all the trees, too.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the house during our tri-cation. We traveled 900 miles for a vacation and to compete in the Outer Banks Triathlon on Manteo. We wanted to stay in a central location away from the noise and crowds. The Sound Crab was the perfect choice. We enjoyed the sunsets on the deck and pier as well as watching the ducks and Osprey fish in front of us. We even caught a few crabs with the pot that was provided. The bike and running trail in front of the house were an extra bonus. You are about a mile from the beach and the Wright Brothers Memorial, with Lowes and grocery stores nearby. My wife's only complaint was that we didn't have the kids and grand kids with us. There would have been plenty of room in the house for everyone. This is not just a house, it feels like a home when you enter. I can't understand why anyone would choose a hotel over this. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and using the grill outside. Thanks for letting us stay in your home.
