About David Andrews
I grew up spending my Summers in Chatham and fell in love with this beach town. I spend as much time as I can in town and love every minute of it. It is ocean therapy! I work diligently every Spring to update and maintain this house, and enjoy the opportunity to share it with folks as well.
Why David Andrews chose West Chatham
My Grandfather built this house and it has been in my family for over 50 years. We have been the only owners.
What makes this House unique
Private, set back from the road, but with easy access to Hardings Beach. Plenty of Parking up by the house. It is the perfect location for all things Chatham! The cottage features the largest Rhododendrons I have ever seen. Several are 50 years old and over 40 feet tall! They provide a wall of privacy, although there are only a few nearby houses. They are breathtaking when in bloom, usually around Memorial Day weekend into mid June.

We loved the Rhododendron house in Chatham! Chatham is our favorite area of the Cape, and this location gave us great access to beaches on the sound, along with other sights in the area. Our stay was in June, and the Rhododendrons were in full bloom when we arrived, which was spectacular! The cottage provided all the amenities we needed. We hope to visit this location again soon!
Second stay at Rhododendron Cottage, well equipped rental with Hardings beach just down the road. Close to amenities and ideal for the Outer Beaches and Chatham.
Owner always helpful and contactable, we had a problem with the internet router and this was fixed within a couple of hours. Would recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a traditional Cape Cod house in a relaxing and quiet location.
Looking forward to returning!
Chatham Beach rental
We go back to the Cape every summer and this cottage was in a great location for my daughter and her friend to ride the bikes to the beach. The beach was very nice and within walking distance. There were lots of amenities for the beach provided, cooler, chairs, etc., and the fact that linens were provided was great because we were coming from CA and it's a real pain to have to pack that stuff too. It was a cute little place but my only complaint, and I didn't catch it when I made the reservation, was there was no air conditioning. It was stiflingly hot and humid the week that we were there, so much so that the microfiber couches were actually wet from the humidity and we had to put towels down to sit on them. I went out and bought a box fan and put it next to the bed so I could sleep at night, but the humidifier in the basement had to be working overtime! Even though it's a shaded area, it didn't help until it rained and cleared things out a bit. A window AC unit in the bedroom would have been helpful to be able to sleep at night. Otherwise, if you don't mind the humidity, it was a cute little place.
Based on this recommendation, I have decided to install a wall AC unit for the bedroom. It will be available in June 2013.
Perfect location, great house!
We loved everything about the house and its location. It is a really enjoyable walk away from the Hardings Beach, in my opinion, one of the best beaches on the Cape. The area around the house is very beautiful, with a lot of open space, trees and marshes. The house offers a lot of privacy and is elevated on a hill. The house has everything one needs when on vacation on the cape. It is clean and nice. I would highly recommend this place to others. There is plenty to do around, from beach-related activities to biking to seal watching to restaurants in the center of Chatham. There is also a seafood market nearby that offers a variety of fresh fish ans shellfish and of course, lobster!
We enjoyed the rental a great deal. The owners accurately described the amenities and the location for our purposes was very convenient (short walk to the beach, bike ride to twon, proximity to Marions Pie Shop-a definite must do). They had enverything we could have needed, including extra bikes, towels, beach equipment etc.
I think the only drawback from my point of view was that the place and its immediate surroundings were pretty buggy. This primarily has to do with its location, but if bugs bother you, bring some spray.
Chatham, Rhododendron House.
The property was clean and well fitted out, however the fridge/freezer was noisy and there was noise from the humidifier which was running continuously in the basement. The owner provided good customer service and an accurate description. A car is a definite necessity for anything other than the beach. My husband took advantage of the mountain bike but the ladies bike was not very useable. We were disappointed in the Chatham Squire and Bistro restaurants but pleased with products bought from Marion's Pie Shop. Visits to the Plimouth Plantation, Wellfleet, the National Seashore Centre and Whale watching from Province Town are all activities to be highly recommended. The bus service is incredibly good value and the drivers extremely helpful, however as stated earlier you do need a car if you want to see a lot of Cape Cod. The library in Chatham is great for regular internet access and e mailing. This is a good property for a family beach holiday.
House offers great beach experience. For non-beach days, fun for the whole family found at shops, restaurants, golfing, cape league baseball games, band concerts, miniature golf, hiking, state parks, nature museum, fire fighters' museum, tennis, biking, seal and whale watching tours, bike trails, summer theater and more. Golf: Multiple public courses available are only a short drive away from Rhododendron House. Detailed description, prices and information provided upon arrival.
