Taos Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Casita, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, KING bed, fenced-in backyard, driveway parking, HD TV

Save money on this cozy adobe casita with a private backyard 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. It’s the perfect place for romance and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Minimum stay is TWO NIGHTS (except holidays). The KING bed is very comfy. Two nights to two or three weeks, but we do not offer monthly rentals since our cleaning crew needs steady work - and they're the best.

If you're drawn to Taos, you're probably a skier (it's excellent at nearby Taos Mountain) or you’re spiritual (our upstairs loft even has a meditation bench) or you’re into health and fitness (yoga mat and weights supplied.)

Wood floors and ceilings in both rooms add a special charm and the hand-plastered walls in the bedroom are tinted a salmon color that makes your skin look fantastic. The bedroom has a comfortable king-sized bed and, of course, a reading lamp on each side. There's a full-length mirror plus an iron and ironing board.

The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the casita cool, but if there’s a heat spell, just turn on the a/c. The backyard has a small wrought-iron table with 2 chairs and is completely fenced in, but sorry, the enclosed hot tub in front of where you park is for guests of Casa Montoya (VRBO #67696), the larger property in front that sleeps 2 to 4 people and features a large, fully-equipped kitchen, wood fireplace, king bed and HiDef TV and Netflix.

This casita has a kitchenette in the living room with 2-burner gas cook top, under-counter refrigerator, deep stainless steel sink with filtered water pitcher, toaster-oven, electric kettle, microwave and coffee maker. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are excellent restaurants within walking distance.

Bring your laptop (we have wireless internet) and your cell phone (we don’t have a telephone). If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be gone, just record it. We have Dish Hi Definition TV with DVR. And Netflix! A gas stove in the living room has a thermostat so you can be as toasty as you want. The bedroom has A.C., baseboard electric heat and there's a separate electric heater in the bathroom. The bathroom is small (no tub) with Mexican tiles and hand-painted sink, and a Saltillo tile floor - plus a portable heater and hair dryer.

Casita Montoya is less expensive than our other two vacation rentals in Taos, but it’s quite charming and comfortable. It's small but larger than a motel room and has a large backyard. In the summer it’s always cool, (we have A.C.) and toasty warm in winter! It’s a hefty walk to the historic Plaza with lots of charming stores and galleries along the way on Kit Carson Road. The fenced-in backyard has tall cottonwoods which keep it shady for your dog.

This is a non-smoking rental. One well-behaved dog (well… maybe two) can roam the fenced-in backyard.. Private parking in the driveway.

Please note that I just lowered the nightly rate so I could increase my bookings.

Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casita Montoya. You'll love this place!

About Ellen Wood

My wonderful, beautiful daughter Winton has been managing Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya for me for quite a few years now - but it's time for her to move on so at this time I'm managing them myself. Since 2007 I've been writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger!) and I'm currently writing my second book. Can I brag a little? My audio book, 'Think and Grow Young - Powerful Steps to Create a Life of Joy' won the 2011 gold Nautilus Award and I am blessed with four children, two stepchildren, two foster daughters, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. And for you, I'll do my best to make sure the rentals are well stocked and super clean.

Why Ellen Wood chose New Mexico

There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! And although small, this is a joyful house.

What makes this cottage unique

It's uniquely less expensive, though charming and comfortable. In the summer it's always cool, and toasty warm in winter! It's a hefty walk to the historic Plaza with lots of charming stores and galleries along the way. The fenced-in backyard has tall cottonwoods which keeps it shady for your dog.

Amazing stay at Casita Montoya

  • 5 of 5

We decided to spend our Thanksgiving weekend in Taos and had an amazing stay at Casita Montoya. The casita itself is tiny (in a good way, think "cozy") and had everything we needed as a couple staying with our two smallish dogs. Having a fenced yard is a significant plus for dog owners and there were even dog bowls for food and water set out when we arrived...so thoughtful! The place was very clean and well appointed. The kitchenette is adequate but does not have a full-sized fridge or a regular oven. It got the job done with a cooktop, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker but we were glad we didn't plan on doing more cooking. Besides, the location is an easy walk to the plaza, shopping and most of the best restaurants Taos has to offer so who would want to cook? Ellen welcomed us with a phone call shortly after we arrived and was a non-intrusive and very accommodating host. We would definitely recommend Casita Montoya for couples wanting a location in-town in Taos and look forward to staying there again in the future.

Owner's Response: We are so blessed!!! Our guests are the best because only fabulous people (like Jeff and his wife) are attracted to Casita and Casa Montoya.

Perfect Taos Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

Ellen's Casita is perfect for a Taos get-a-way for two. It's small but very comfortable and very well-cared for. And the fenced-in back yard is perfect for four-legged friends.....just open the door and you don't have to worry. Ellen is very accommodating and even called to make sure everything met our expectations. We highly recommend and will definitely return on our next trip to Taos.

Wonderfully cozy pet-friendly casita

  • 5 of 5

This is just the right size for 2 people. It is simply but beautifully decorated. The kitchen has essentials and MORE! Location makes this a great place to saty; you can walk right downtown. AND the fenced yard for our Goldie was so convenient. We would love to stay here again when we return to Taos.

Adorable Taos Casita

  • 5 of 5

This darling casita is in the heart of Taos, close to Plaza shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and roads leading out to the national forest or other areas of interest. The nice paintings and thoughtful detail in the casita make this space pleasant and comfortable. The king bed is very comfortable, and the petite kitchen area has everything you need. We loved spending time out in the yard under the cottonwoods, just chilling out and enjoying the nice weather.

Lovely Casita, very convenient!

  • 5 of 5

This casita is very convenient to downtown, was well equipped, and immaculate. The bed was also very comfortable, which we really appreciated after long days working at an event! The owner was helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
