About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Welcome to our 3 bedroom home nestled in the Santiago hillside overlooking the bay. Start everyday with coffee and breakfast on the Dining Room terrace overlooking the yard, container garden, private pool and ocean. Catch up on your email and news with the wireless internet connection while you plan your day. Every afternoon the private pool will beckon with sun, shade and an ocean breeze. When evening comes there are sunsets to be savored as the day draws to a close.

Description of our house:

The house has 4 levels. The main level has a fully equipped kitchen, and dining room that opens up to the terrace overlooking the yard and pool. The living room has large windows and a walkout balcony. The windows bring in a lot of light and a great view of Santiago bay and the tops of palm trees below.

The second level has the master bedroom with a king size bed and large master bath. We often enjoy our morning coffee on the small balcony outside the master bedroom. The view is marvelous and the bird watching can be exciting too! The second level also includes the second full bathroom and a large bonus room with views of the ocean.

One half level up are the two guest bedrooms; these both overlook the mountains in the distance. One bedroom has a king size bed and a nice balcony; the second bedroom has two twin beds. Up just a few more steps is the doorway to the roof of the house. We spend a lot of evenings up here with cocktails watching the sun settle over the mountains and the city lights come up on the other side of the hill.

The lower level of the house has a powder room and a garden room with walkout to the pool, terraces, and the container garden. The large windows have a view of the bay and the private pool. Next to the pool is a large palapa providing shade to the table and chairs and lounges. There is also a large open terrace that is perfect for the sun lovers. Everywhere in the yard has a lovely view of the bay.

Being on the hillside we enjoy a beautiful ocean breeze most of the day. The main boulevard is just a few blocks below, but the street ends at our house, so we are not bothered with traffic noise. Our neighborhood is convenient to shopping, beach, and restaurants. Some of our guests come for a month without a car and use public transportation; others park their car in our two car garage. The beach is two blocks away, but is a 15 minute walk as you need to wind down the hillside through the neighborhood.

This page has as number of photos for you to review. We would be happy to email you more pictures to satisfy your curiosity. We love our vacation home and hope you will too. Linens, towels, beach towels, pool floaters, dishes, cookware, etc are all supplied. Several times a week our manager comes to the house to clean the pool and take care of the outside of the house. Maid service is provided once a week, or twice if you like.

We only rent our home with a one month (4 week) minimum stay, but we are flexible with the start and end dates of your vacation, to match your flight reservations. If you would like more details about our home, or about the Manzanillo area, please email or call us.

About Carl

It's always been our dream to live by the ocean; that came true for us in 2005, although we still live full time in the United States until retirement (just a couple of years to go!)

Carl purchased this house in 2005

Why Carl chose Colinas de Santiago

We've traveled throughout Mexico for over 25 years, and love the colonial cities, but have always wanted that home by the ocean! Manzanillo is a lovely place, modern enough and large enough to have everything you need, but not overly "touristy"

Villa de Arcos

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at Villa de Arcos was a 5 *. The views from every floor are spectacular. Being at the end of the road, there is no traffic noise. Just a few crowing roosters and the occasional barking dog. Such is the beauty of Mexico!

In summary, the house is beautiful and well maintained inside and out. We loved the tile work and unique decorations throughout, and the furniture is in overall good condition. We found the beds to be very comfortable and the on suite master bath is huge!!! There is a lot of storage space in all the bedrooms with an abundant supply of both bath and beach towels, along with extra sheets and blankets. The kitchen is well equipped, so it’s easy to make yummy drinks and healthy meals. FYI: there's a great pizza place at the bottom of the hill and a Mexican fellow sets up a hamburger/hotdog stand next door to the pizza place. Very yummy and tasty!

The house has multiple levels, thus MANY MANY stairs. We were fine with this, but those with mobility issues should be warned. Also, there is NO AC. However, there are ceiling fans throughout the house and these are very efficient at keeping the air fresh and cool all day long.

Outdoors, the plants and flowers around the pool are beautiful and there's also a mango tree! The pool itself is wonderful and was well maintained during our stay. The pool loungers (foam) are a nice bonus. What a luxury!!! The palapa / patio furniture is well kept with lots of chairs, including comfy sunbeds. We ate outside almost every meal. The patio area is large and the views are stunning.

The caretaker (pool expert, gardener and general handyman) was very helpful in answering our needs, as was his wife (property manager). If we had any questions, they had most of the answers. We were greeted warmly upon our arrival and shown how everything works.

As mentioned in previous reviews, the climb to reach the house can be quite the adventure, even with a car, especially after the rain damaged the road while we were there, leaving some pretty big rutts. We opted to rent a car and this was finally a very wise choice for us. The rental owner has contacts at the nearby car rental office and he was great in setting this up for us. The car was waiting for us at the house when we arrived.

Would we rent this home again? You bet we would!!! Except that it is already reserved for several months next winter… That shows just how great a place this is!!!

Recommended Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa de Arcos. Situated on a hillside above Santiago Bay, the home offers million dollar views of the bay and the mountains. The sunroom outside of the master bedroom is a fantastic spot for enjoying a morning cup of coffee while watching the sun rise or relaxing with a glass of wine as the sun sets. The master bedroom is spacious, bright and airy, and it has an enormous adjoining master bathroom with lots of storage space, a sizable wardrobe closet, and a large glass block walk-in shower. With three bedrooms and three baths plus ample kitchen, dining and living areas, there was more than plenty of room for the two of us, but the house would be perfect for a family or even three couples.

Our favorite feature of the property is the private pool which has comfortable padded lounge chairs and lots of floats for relaxing in the sun. It also has a table and 4 cushioned chairs under the shade of the palapa for outdoor lunches or for playing one of the games/puzzles that you’ll find in the house. Another advantage of this property is the good, strong internet for staying connected or streaming Netflix.

We didn’t have a car, so we walked daily to the beaches, to the bus stop below, and throughout the town of Santiago. My husband and I are in our 60s, but we didn’t mind the short walk to nearby restaurants, the Kiosko convenience store, or the farmer’s market in Santiago. For longer longer distances, we hopped on a bus and were able to ride to shopping in Manzanillo or to the Oasis Ocean Club for dinner and live music. All of the neighbors (and their dogs) were very friendly. Actually, all of the locals that we met in Manzanillo were helpful and made us feel welcome.

The rental process and security deposit refund was quick and easy. A very special thank you to our host Carl who promptly responded to our phone calls/emails and made sure that our stay was comfortable as well as memorable.

All in all, Casa de Arcos is a wonderful vacation home, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

Home Away From Home in Manzanillo

  • 5 of 5

Casa de Arcos is a beautiful, bright and spacious property with fantastic views, from all levels, of the Santiago Bay area.

This home has everything anyone ever needs to enjoy an extended holiday - Canadian Satellite T.V., WiFi, cosy library, proximity to shopping (10 minute walk to bus stop), 15 minute ride to Soriana (grocery store), Walmart and restaurants, 10-15 minute walk to Miramar Beach.

It is situated on a high point which means an energetic walk uphill if you are not driving a vehicle. This property has an enclosed 2-car garage and a secure outdoor parking area if driving a vehicle would be your preference. We chose to walk, bus and taxi around Manzanillo and found no difficulties whatsoever.

Being a multi-level facility there are many stairs to negotiate so this house would be a challenge to anyone with mobility issues!

Solving the drinking water delivery situation with the help of Cristina, the manager, and Humberto, her husband and caretaker, was a breeze. Renting this property through VRBO was flawless thanks to Carl, the owner, who always responded promptly to our questions.

Without a doubt, we would rent this property again and would encourage family and friends to do the same!

Surpassed our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 5wk stay in this wonderfully situated and beautifully designed home. The rooms are large, sunny and airy and allow for magnificent vistas of Santiago Bay and the ocean on one side and the hills and more ocean on the other side; "bird's eye" views and perspectives abound! The multiple levels provide opportunities to choose the best vantage points for viewing sunrise, sunset and everything in between.

The kitchen is well- stocked with dishes, cutlery, pans; suggest wine glasses and a toaster oven. The design of the kitchen allows easy access to the outdoors-we never ate even one meal indoors!

We spent about one week without a car; the walk is a bit steep at points and a cab was necessary at night and upon return with groceries; it can be done without a car but having one (we did decide to get a car for the rest of our stay) is certainly more convenient.

The ambience is of a peaceful, tranquil sanctuary. A negative disruption is the barking dogs, however, their barking follows a pattern and comes and goes.

The owner, caretaker and housekeeper were pleasant and very responsive to our needs

We would definitely recommend the home to friends and family but most of all, again to ourselves"

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

This is just the greatest place. Everything you need is here, nice kitchen, great beds - all very comfortable. Nice breezes going thru the house. The decks are great - best place to sit and have breakfast on the deck adjacent to the kitchen. The decks around the pool are large and easily accommodate your chaise loungers. There's a palapa to seek refuge under when the sun gets too hot and to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. There is even a barbeque! All very private too. The pool is just the right size! Lot's of floaters to float around and cool off in the pool. There is a private gated garage for your car. Very safe area too. The property is well cared for, and the house is just as beautiful as shown with the photos. Lot's of places nearby in the Santiago area for eating, and the Saturday market is only a few minutes away. The home is a very enjoyable place to spend some time

A Gem in Manzanillo

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed here twice, for a total of about ten weeks. The accommodations are great, and so is the location. It's quiet, secure, private and peaceful, yet conveniently close to beaches, convenience stores, and public transportation if you need it. About 10 minutes away from local markets and/or Walmart. Everything about this place is comfortable and it works! The owners are very accommodating and go the extra mile to make sure your stay exceeds expectations. On a comparative basis, this place is definitely worth the price.
