Dillon's Sea Castle, View! Hot Tub! Steps to Beach#1 Location in Dillon Beach

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 13-14)

This home is steps to the end of the street where there is a short trail down the bluff to the beach. It is NOT way up on the hill which is a long hard uphill walk and where if the fog rolls in you won't be able to see anything, or where the wind can get pretty strong; nor is it on the edge of a scary bluff. Feel secure that your kids are safe as those cliffs at Dillon Beach can be pretty dangerous. This home is a very easy short level walk to the beach. View is unobstructed and incredible. Hot tub, BBQ, and fire pit in fenced in yard with 100 year old cypress trees umbrella canopy allows you to experience true North Coast living.

It has a beautiful unobstructed ocean view. You can see clear to the Bodega Headlands from the dining table. The stunning Dillon Beach sunsets from the dining room window, or the decks are incredible. A large front deck on the lower level offers a great place for the entire family to sit and view the ocean together. Pull up a chair, kick your feet up on the wall and take in the view. You're almost guaranteed to see a whale, sea lion, otter, or some sea life here at Dillon Beach. Up stairs is a deck looking over the ocean, the perfect early morning coffee spot.

The backyard is one of only a few homes in Dillon Beach with a fenced private yard. It includes a spa, BBQ, heater, and fire pit with 6 to 8 chairs that can sit around the fire so everyone can enjoy the local fresh local Dillon Beach BBQ'd oysters together. After a day on the beach there is nothing like a good hot tub soak in our spa. Seats 6 comfortably or 8 if you really like each other. The backyard has a large deck and brick patio. The garden is really cute with old barn wood fencing and sea side relics all around. Has the feel of old Dillon Beach.

The house was remodeled a couple years ago. Granite counter tops throughout, stone floors and showers/bath enclosure. All first class. New hard wood pergo floors, all new stainless steel appliances, and a TV in each room 55" HDTV big screen in front room. The entire house has been updated with lots of stone, new cabinets, fixtures, walls, windows, paint flooring, etc. No 1970's decor here. It's all brand new from the floor to the ceiling. There's a Plasma in the downstairs master BR. Large open living area open to the kitchen and dining. Sit next to the cozy fireplace that turns on at a push of the remote, or watch a movie on the big screen. The whole group can hang out together in the living area downstairs, or send the kids, or adults, upstairs to the game room where there's a 32'TV DVD & VCR player, Game Cube, Foosball Table, Poker table, and closet full of games.

This home was oringinally owned by the Keegan family that developed the Oceana Marin subdivision in Dillon Beach. As the original developer, he had first pick of all of the lots in this part of Dillon Beach. This was the location he picked which is why we call it the # 1 location in Dillon Beach. The home has several very old large cypress trees all around it that envelope the backyard. There is just no better atmosphere for relaxation.

The perfect place for a family reunion or annual get together. You'll love Dillon Beach, not only for it's own amenities, but for it's central location to dozens of awesome places to go. Bodega, Marshall, Occidental, Sebastpol, Jenner, Point Reyes, Tomales Bay, Marin, Sonoma, etc. The beach is called 'Safe Beach' by the locals. The beach at Dillon Beach in front of this home is about 3 miles of sand all the way South to the mouth of the Tomales Bay. North up the beach is tide pools and rocky cliffs. Go surf fishing, beach combing, boogie boarding, surfing, or rent a boat at Lawsons Landing in Dillon Beach and go crabing or clamming. They actually catch dozens of 20lb. plus halibut in the bay every year. Explore Pt. Reyes, and stop and get fresh Oysters from the world famous oyster farmers in Marshall known as Hog Island Oyster Co. or Tomales Bay Oysters. Nick's Cove, just a 5 minute drive from Dillon Beach is open and has been featured on Travel Network TV and in Sunset Magazine. The Dillon Beach general store is walking distance as is the Dillon Beach Cafe open for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I visited Dillon Beach 18 years ago. I didn't even know it existed. I fell in love with it and hope to retire here soon and become a Dillon Beach Local. Feel free to call us at 916-660-1915 to make a reservation.

About Brad and Beverlee Burris

My wife and I both grew up and still live in Sacramento with two of our sons. She was from Elk Grove and I was from Carmichael. Now we live in Granite bay. Three sons. Our oldest son is in the Coast Guard stationed in Virginia on a Cutter. The others live in Sacramento. I own a magazine that is distributed in Sacramento & Placer Counties called Home Improvement & Remodeling Magazine. It has been in business now for 12 years. Prior to that I was a commercial developer with Lukenbill Enterprises, acting CFO, which was the managing general partner of the Sacramento Kings from 1984 to 1996 while I was there. I have bought and fixed up homes all of my life. This one was quite a challenge and turned out awesome. One of my prouder achievements.

Brad and Beverlee Burris purchased this house in 2006

Why Brad and Beverlee Burris chose Dillon Beach

My wife introduced me to Dillon Beach about 22 years ago. We started camping here about 4 or 5 times a year since then. We love this place. There is literally nothing like it anywhere. It is virtually the same as it was 100 years ago. The beach is as nice as any beach I've been on. The sea life is abundant. Deer roam throughout the neighborhood unafraid. We just decided we had to have a home here. My oldest son is in the Coast Guard and was stationed here for about a year and a half which was very convenient. He grew up spending vacation time here and just couldn't leave. My other two boys also love this area. They look forward to every trip we make here. And our two miniature Austrailian Shepards love the dog friendly beach. Not many of those left in California. It is the perfect family vacation spot.

What makes this house unique

Our home was built in 1968 by the original developer of Oceana Marin. The Keegan's chose this location to build their home over all of the possible locations in Dillon Beach. It has a beautiful unobstructed view of the ocean. It is down low so it is a short easy walk to the beach and below the fog when it rolls in, yet it isn't on the edge of the bluffs leaving one to worry about erosion or children's safety. It has a private fenced backyard with a spa, fire pit, BBQ redwood deck, and a garden. It is surrounded by cypress trees that umbrella the backyard creating a truly unique ambience. The home was completely remodeled when we bought it. Literally rebuilt from the ground up and the studs out. All first class amenities from granite counters, hard wood floors, new appliances, new Plasma TVs and big screen TVs throughout and even a foosball table. Sit at the dining table and gaze out of the two giant bay windows that look out on to the ocean and the Bodega Headlands. There is truly no better way to relax, unwind, and enjoy the ones you're with than spending a week, or even a weekend here.

Very comfortable and close to beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved how the place was set up and we just had to walk down the street a short way and take a path to the beach. We loved the beach too. It wasn't rocky at all. It was very sandy and I love beaches like that. We also went clamming and really enjoyed that. Over all we all had a great time.

Great week at Dillon Beach!

  • 5 of 5

Dillon’s Sea Castle gave our large group plenty of room and a great view of the ocean! The location is ideal, with easy access to the beach, plenty of parking and a quiet street. Since the weather during our visit was wonderfully cool, the electric fireplace made for a very cozy living room. When we had a few questions upon arrival, Brad and Beverlee were easy to reach and very responsive.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the house. To clarify, the fireplace is gas with a nice size flame. It has an electric remote control to conveniently turn the fire on and off. Hope to see you again soon.

The perfect place for our family

  • 5 of 5

Being so close to the beautiful, clean beach, where dogs are allowed to run freely, where kite-flying in the windy afternoon was superb, where views of the sunset were spellbinding, where I caught sight of the sun's "green flash" once, for a split second, where soaking in the hot tub was relaxing for the tired bones in the family, where all appliances were clean and working, and the quiet except for the ocean ---- more than made up for the uncomfortable sofabed (futon) and lack of blinds on the front windows. We would love to come back for many years more, and highly recommend it to other families of all ages, but not too many large pets. With gratitude to Brad and Beverlee for opening their kindly home to us.

Good stay

  • 3 of 5

This was a nice home and served it purpose nicely so that my family and I could be by/at the beach daily. It was an easy walk down from the end of the quiet street as well. The only downfalls were that only one of the 5 TVs would work and only one of the 5 DVD players would work. And unfortunately the downstairs bathroom shower knob was broken upon arrival so we couldn’t change the water temperature. I was a little disappointed when I tried to reach the homeowners after our stay multiple times in regards to an item that had been left behind as well and still haven’t gotten a response from them.

Overall the home had a great view but needed a few things taken care of.

Owner's Response: I spoke with Abby after her stay. It turned out she wrote down our email wrong and so we never received the emails. She told me that was her biggest complaint and after discovering the error was from her end, she apologized and attempted to change this review and upgrade the stars. But VRBO won't allow the writer to edit or modify the review. So unfortunately we have a 3 star that should have been a 4 or 5. As for the TV's, a prior guest removed the access cards and took them. Not sure why, maybe kids messing around. We ordered new cards and all TV's work great. The DVD players all work as well, just were not hooked up correctly. Again, not sure why they were disconnected but it was fixed immediately. All of our TV's are now Smart TVs and we have excellent wifi, so if you have a Netflix or Hulu account bring your password. The temperature adjuster on the shower was broken off by a guest a few weeks before. The replacement part was special ordered and installed on July 15. We did have to set the temp at what we thought was best for all for a couple weeks. It now works great. We give out our phone numbers, cell phones, and local housekeeper phone number in case something like this occurs. Unfortunately, in this case they only tried contacting us by email and they had written that down incorrectly. All of this info is on our rental agreement so bring a copy with you in case you need our help.

Nice place, housekeeping and maintenance issues.

  • 3 of 5

House and location were nice. We booked this for 12 people with a 13th person one night. Roomy enough for all, but there were no clean sheets for the sleeper sofa. Dirty under the furniture. The fridge doesn't always work. The doors have issues, and we were careful to close them per directions, but the temperature rose and alert came on. We set the temps lower and it was okay.

Outdoor toys were in a bin with 2-3" of stagnant water, several were broken. Gross.

There are no window coverings on the picture windows facing north and west. Afternoon and evening sun is intense, workers and neighbors can see in at all times.

We've enjoyed many nice vacation rentals, and have never been expected to vacuum and mop floors, wipe out fridge, wipe counters and range before leaving. We left no clutter or food, but didn't realize they meant for us to clean the house for the next guests! Their help only does the beds, towels and bathrooms it seems.

We wouldn't do that again.

We were responsible for damage to one of the bedspreads, and although we tried to rinse all feet before getting in the hot tub (which is very nice) we did get sand in it. Naturally, these were taken from our deposit, we are sorry for these events.

Just be prepared to spend your last morning cleaning, don't expect perfection, and you'll enjoy your stay.

Owner's Response: I am glad our guests were able to enjoy the incredible and unique view from our home. The picture windows on the ocean side do not have window coverings. Most beach houses do not put window coverings on the ocean side picture windows. In 14 years of renting our home we have never had a complaint about not covering the view. We have a Rubbermade toy box in the back yard filled with beach toys. Often our guests might leave toys they brought in the box. When the box is full the lid may not close tightly and may accumulate moisture in the box. We have purchased a new tub that seals better. We clean all the toys after each stay if needed. It is also the first time anyone complained about toys available for children to use at the beach. We ask that if you spill something or make a mess you please clean it up. I don't think that is abnormal. The floors were sticky and covered with sand. The counters, stove, microwave, and refrigerator were covered with grease, food, and sticky stains. But even in light of that we did not charge our guests for this additional clean up. We charged them for damages done to the upstairs comforters, pillow shames, linens, and pillow cases. Apparently small children were allowed to play with permanent markers on the sea themed matching linens and comforters upstairs. These linens are not supposed to be used as coloring books. Since they were a set, they were somewhat expensive. They had to be replaced. The spa was a mess and had to be drained and refilled, but even then we did not charge for this extra. The deposit covered the damaged linens only. Our housekeepers thoroughly clean all rooms and kitchen, mop floors, disinfect all sinks and baths. This is not expected of our guests. We always hear about the great job they do cleaning from our guests. However, we ask if you spill something or spray grease/food on the stove, cabinets or counters, spill in the refrigerator, or track excessive sand inside, please clean it up. In the 14 years we have offered our home to guests we have received 31 5 star reviews. This is the first time we received less. I feel that these guests might be acting in a vindictive manner because we charged them for damages they caused. We normally do not keep deposits unless damage was done. I also have rented many vacation homes and would never leave a home in the condition that these guests left our home. If my children drew on comforters with perm marker I would not hesitate to pay for them.
