Outstanding Experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, and a group of friends stayed here for a weekend. Great location and a beautiful setting. House was spacious, clean and well maintained. Both Sherman and Charles (property manager) were more than helpful and reachable whenever needed.

The Cabin in the Blue Ridge provided us a great escape

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cabin in the Blue Ridge. We particularly enjoyed the fact that the Cabin was by itself on a large property and that our families could play, ride bikes, and explore the area without worry of anyone else being around. The amenities were great and allowed us to cook, play games, and socialize together as friends. There are many great things to do in the area. We rode the Virginia Creeper Trail, hiked to Cascade Falls, and spent some time at Hungry Mother State Park during our visit. There were plenty of beds for our group and the layout was clearly articulated and matched the actual layout. The listing description was accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. I have and will continue to recommend the Cabin in the Blue Ridge friends, relatives, and acquaintances who are visiting the area and would like a comfortable escape. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we look forward to visiting the Cabin again sometime!

We booked a Fri. to Sun. It wasn't long enough, none of us wanted to leave and everyone said they'd love to come back. We had 13 people in our group (11 adults, 2 kids). This was a get together for my mom and her siblings who haven't seen each other in many years and we were all visiting my grandmother who is buried in Riner. Some came from Florida, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Maryland. We walked in and just kept saying Wow! I never stayed anywhere more beautiful...the cabin and the view. Both had a lot of space. We fed the horses apples, the kids went wandering with their cousins (some family came in and stayed in the next town and visited during the day, they really loved the place too)

*The fireplaces had plenty of wood, the hubby loved keeping them going

*The hammock on the front porch was a big hit

*I loved having 2 ovens! Aunt Tink was cooking biscuits in one, while I was cooking sausage in another

*The fridge, we had a little trouble. Since I was hostess, I bought all the food for all 3 days for 13 people (I knew the stores were far away, I didn't want to go out for anything, I wanted to enjoy the cabin). 4 gallons of milk...2 dozen eggs...2 gallons of OJ...etc....etc.) It was fine until other family arrived and brought food too! (Bad planning on my part) We made do and kept stuff in our coolers. I read there's 2 fridges now, that's awesome!

*The kitchen was great. It had all appliances and utensils, even crock pots, coffee pots and colanders!

*The washer and dryer were nice to have if needed

*We cooked on the outside grill

*We made a fire in the outside fire pit, it had logs around it to sit on

*Bathrooms, there were plenty. One on each level plus one in the master bedroom. I had forgotten t.p., but lucky me, it was already stocked up!

*We did have difficulty with locking the locks, but that could of been us

*One aunt and uncle got the room off of the living room. A little shutter for the window would be nice for added privacy, so one of the kids can't come by and pull the curtain back while they're dressing

*The trash, I didn't care for dropping a few bags off at a convenient store on our way out, but it wasn't a big deal. We actually kept our burnables separate and just burned them in the outside fire pit

In closing, this has been the best place I've stayed at thus far. As with anything, you're not going to please everyone. It goes a long way to have an owner who wants feedback to make improvements. Keep up the good work!

Very nice

  • 4 of 5

This is a really beautiful property. We walked the trails and enjoyed watching the rain come through on the big covered porch. Ther is plenty of room for food with two refrigerators.

As others have suggested, make sure you bring everything you need. It is a long haul through country roads to the nearest town. Bring camp chairs because there is not nearly enough outdoor seating, especially if you have a large group.

I do have a couple of suggestions for the owners. I understand from past comments that you are continually improving the property, so i hope my comments help. You need a power strip in the basement. There are several things to be plugged in, and only one outlet. You also need trash receptacles outside (preferably bear proof as we did see a nice sized black bear while we were there). Taking the trash down to a dumpster at a convenience store a couple miles down the road is not an acceptable solution. There is not nearly enough outdoor seating. Even if you just have some cheap camp chairs. More seating in the basement would be good too, especially if everyone wants to wat h a movie down there. Additional shelving in the kitchen would help. We did not have nearly enough room for non-refrigerated food. That big pantry on the right side and the corner cabinet would be much more useful with more shelving. Overall, a really beautiful place and I would stay here again. Thanks for your help while we were there.

Perfect for large groups

  • 5 of 5

We had our family reunion here and the cabin was perfect for our group of 20+. The children loved waking up every morning seeing horses a few yards from the front door. The scenery was beautiful and the area itself was just peaceful and calming. We had so much room to spread out and not bump into each other. The kitchen was perfect for cooking large amounts of food. There were more than enough bathrooms available so we weren't waiting around too long for others to finish. Sherman and Charles were both accommodating and helpful. Charles called constantly to check up on us. Our last night, the power and water went out due to the bad weather and Charles was helpful in updating us the whole night. Breathtaking view and spacious/clean cabin to stay.

We have stayed in many places with kids and grandkids over 20 years, and this was one of the few that we have returned to.

The scenery isn't "high-country" spectacular, but the view from the house is so engrossing and relaxing that one is content to simply sit on the porch!

The fact that it is part of a working farm with cattle and horses within sight and sound further adds to the charm. It is a private and completely quiet setting.

And the house is immaculate, architecturally and structurally striking with all the amenities one could want.

Since it is off the beaten path, bring what you will need for your stay, because the nearest food and gas is not nearby (thankfully) and you won't want to drive a half hour because you forgot ketchup!

There is limited "entertainment" close by (again, - thankfully), but Hungry Mother State Park, and local museums are within an easy drive.

Bottom line, this is a charming,. quiet, private retreat.
