Perfect Parisian Apartment with Central Air Conditioning

Bedrooms 2
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This charming Marais apartment has undergone a full renovation to enhance its historic beauty while integrating modern comforts. The apartment has beautiful original herringbone hardwood floors and large windows in every room. Architectural features include an original fireplace and crown moldings.

We have collaborated with a decorator to ensure that the furnishings would enhance the apartment's architectural elegance while retaining a strong focus on comfort.

The apartment is on the second floor (up one flight of stairs) in an 18th century building on the rue de Saintonge where it intersects with the rue de Turenne. The building has a lovely cobblestone courtyard with flowering bushes. The Marais neighborhood was recently rated one of Paris' safest. Your security is doubly ensured by the building concierge and a security code equipped building front door.

We have used our experience to create the perfect home away from home. This apartment is quintessentially Parisian yet features all of the amenities that the cosmopolitan traveler demands.

The living room has double exposure and a brand new open kitchen fully-equipped with fridge/freezer, ceramic stove top, oven, dishwasher, microwave and separate clothes washer and dryer. There is

also a dining table and a comfortable seating area with a large couch (that folds out into a Queen size bed with extra-thick mattress). There is a large flat screen TV equipped with cable television (with two channels in English), a multi-zone DVD player, a stereo system with sound-dock to plug in your I-pod, and wireless high-speed internet.

The master bedroom features an American King size (180) bed, two large windows and overhead lighting as well as lamps. There is a built in closet with hanging space. The en-suite bathroom has a toilet,

washbasin and bathtub with a wall-mounted shower-head and glass shower screen. There is a courtyard-facing window in the bathroom.

The second bedroom has two twin beds (that can also be made up as a King), a fireplace, and a large window and also has a built-in closet. The second bathroom is across the hall from the second bedroom and has a toilet, washbasin and shower cabin. There are two courtyard- facing windows in the shower-room.

The two bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the apartment-an ideal layout for couples traveling together as well as families.

Hot weather but nice location

  • 4 of 5

We arrived here during a rare heatwave of 90-degree weather. The apartment did not have central AC, but two small AC units in each of the bedrooms leaving the common area very warm. We could have used a couple of floor fans. The AC unit in our room eventually started leaking condensation onto the floor so we had to put a trash can underneath.

Despite some of the rooms' shortcomings the location of this place was great - in the 3rd arrondisement just above the Marais within walking distance of so many cafes (one directly across the street from us), shops, attractions, ATMs and the Metro (Filles du Calvaire). We felt safe the whole time day or night.

I give this apartment a marginal 4 stars because of the weather. I would come back here during spring or fall. Katia, Maggie and our driver Robert took good care of us checking in and out.

Owner's Response: Dear Rachel & friends, Thank you for taking the time to comment, and it was lovely to have you in our apartement. We took immediate note of the problem with the AC and have had it checked; it is now up and running again, ready for the next bout of hot weather! With warm regards, Marilyn

Comfort and convenience in Paris

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is located very conveniently in a small, quiet building with easy access to all Paris has to offer, by foot and public transit. We stayed with our grown son for a week and were very pleased. Contact with Tamara was always easy and response immediately by email. From the moment we arrived til we left at the end of the week, we felt well cared for. Sophie was on hand to meet us, even though we were delayed in our arrival, and explained all we needed to know about the apt and neighborhood, and Tamara checked us out quickly and with graciousness. Tamara recommended a private taxi - Robert - to us and we were in good hands from arrival at CDG to departure from Gare-de-Lyon. Robert drove us to the train and personally accompanied us inside, printed out our train tickets, and clearly explained how to locate our track for the TGV (the last time we did this on our own, years ago, it was quite confusing). This avoided any stress on our part and was much appreciated! The apartment itself has period details, but has been thoughtfully updated. Good layout, two very good bathrooms, a very functional kitchen with all the basic dishware, utensils, dishwasher, and w/d suited our needs. Everything very clean and well-maintained. We didn't cook, as many good restaurants were within an easy walk, but was nice to have a full grocery a few minutes away, Franprix, where they had all necessities, even lactose free milk. Also good to have a cafe right across the street, where we were welcomed as soon as we arrived (stays open late in the eve, but is reasonably quiet), and the bakery, ATM, and Post Office are steps away. Fresh croissants every morning at our table overlooking the street below. Air conditioning worked well and was very quiet. Because of the great convenience of the location, we were easily able to reach all the destinations we had hoped to see - and more. We always felt safe, courtyard entry is by security code, and the neighborhood is pedestrian/tourist - friendly. We were sad to leave, hope we can return again.

What a lovely place to spend our time in Paris!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our two sons (20 and 22 yoa) spent most of a week here in this beautiful apartment. The owners have preserved the historic character while updating for comfort. There are patisseries within a block in several directions so you can have fresh croissants and quiche for breakfast and many cafés for your other meals if you want to eat out. (One is literally across the street). Simple meals can be prepared there in the compact but useful kitchen. The bath/shower rooms are very comfortable. We slept very well in the comfy beds. The herringbone floors are an exact match for one of the rooms in Napoleon's apartment at the Louvre, which is fun. That said, the floor in the master bedroom is a bit uneven so it can be tricky going through there if you have any difficulty with walking. There is ample storage in closets and drawers so you can unpack and settle in. The decor is simple but elegant and doesn't feel crowded like so many European apartments. We were greeted by Sophie upon our arrival, and she was so gracious and helpful, even arranging for a taxi to pick us up for two early morning trips. I will highly recommend this apartment to friends and family, and hope to return there myself!

First visit to Paris

  • 5 of 5

Just back from 8 nights in Paris. First visit for me, my wife and daughters aged 22 and 25. Apartment was as described and everything we needed as a base for a wonderful stay. Easily got to all the "must see" locations using public transit, including RER to Versailles, from this central spot. Could have spent most of the week within this charming neighborhood itself - friendly shops and coffee spots and restaurants and a ton of diversity within a 10 minute stroll in any direction..

Apartment well equipped, owners and contact person helpful. Would return or recommend to friends traveling with another couple or as a family of four.

Wonderful Marais Bretagne Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is a wonderful home away from home for two couples. Although the weather in February was cold we found the apartment a cozy and comfortable retreat after a long day of touring. We loved the neighborhood and the convenience of rue de Bretagne for shopping for wine and food as well as the wonderful Cafe Charlot. We were warmly welcomed by Lee who took care of our every need, and Eirwen's help before our arrival was always prompt and friendly. Although we could walk easily everywhere the nearby bus and metro stops were handy as well as the Air France direct bus to CDG airport from Gare de Lyon. We loved the Sunday morning Bastille market and Chez Prune on Canal St. Martin. The Marais is an eclectic neighborhood that we wil recommend to our friends and look forward to returning to. Staying in this lovely apartment made our vacation very special.

Wonderful Paris Apartment Experience

  • 5 of 5

Nice neighborhood. Quiet street. Secure. (In fact, I completely forgot to lock the front door one day and nothing bad happened.).

Generally, the apartment is as pictured. The appliances worked perfectly: air conditioning, water heater, refrigerator, washer, dryer, hair dryer, etc. (We never used the cooktop, oven, or dishwasher.) (Note to Americans: the washer is a bit smaller that American washers and the dryer is not vented to the outside, so it takes longer to dry clothes. Also, only one English language TV channel (CNBC)... but who goes to Paris to watch TV?) The only negative for me was the original wood floor. After two glasses of French wine, I need a level floor!

The apartment is just slightly outside of the tourist areas, so there are plenty of opportunities to practice speaking French. We highly recommend Pizzeria St. Joseph, which is nearby. We also recommend the Subway sandwich shop on Rue Debelleyme (really nice people and good sandwiches!). We also recommend grocery shopping that the Supermarche at Saintonge/Bretagne.

You will love the agent/manager, Tamara -- we felt like we had a friend in Paris! Thanks for a wonderful Paris apartment experience, Tamara!!
