4 Bedrooms that exit unto a porch, 3.5 bathrooms and lots of gathering spaces
Mark is a “com-ya” and Marty is a “been-ya” from the Carolinas and together we discovered OIB. Marty grew up in South Carolina but her family comes from Wilmington and the surrounding beaches. Mark immigrated from Ohio and got here as quickly as he could! We live and work in the Charleston, SC area now but get to our own part of paradise as much as possible. We named our property Burden’s End because when you cross over the causeway bridge heading onto the Island, that is exactly what happens. Your burdens end right there, not to be picked back up until long after you return home. Our friends have a saying on their wall that “everything can be cured with salt water; tears, sweat and the sea”. Nothing truer can be said. We purchased our home in 2018 and had about 7 rentals our first year under the original property number. We are looking forward to sharing our home with others who appreciate all that OIB has to offer as we look to 2019.
Owner purchased this House in 2018
Why Owner chose Ocean Isle Beach
OIB was a perfect fit in that we were looking for a quieter beach that still had amenities to enjoy. OIB is family oriented with many festivals, parades, markets, miniature golf (no monsters allowed!), restaurants, fishing & boating opportunities and the best all-around “convenience” store in Sheffield’s that you could ever want. Once you’ve stayed at OIB you become part of a very unique community. Burden’s End is steps from the beach and located just a couple of blocks from a hidden marsh trail that gets you up close with nature few ever experience. And when it is time to socialize a little, there is a fun Tiki Bar within walking distance located at “The Winds” when you want to venture out with others for an end of the day gathering. Or better yet, salute the sun as it goes down from the upper decks with your own favorite concoction in hand. It’s all good.
What makes this House unique
The house itself is comfortably laid out so many can gather without being on top of each other. While there are large gathering areas for games, eating, watching TV or visiting, there are also little nooks where a few can get away for quieter conversations, reading or relaxation. With a bedroom suite on the first floor, and the other 3 bedrooms upstairs, different generations or families can set their own pace for their stay. The grounds are lushly landscaped with palm trees that lets you know you are indeed in a very special environment. Come see what Burden’s End is all about. Where magic abounds if you let your imagination roam free.

Labor Day Stay
Great property and location. Our family loved this house and Martha was a joy to deal with. The house is so nice with plenty of room for two families and wonderfully decorated. Pretty views too for a third row house. Great spot underneath to sit in the evening and have a cocktail and listen to music. Also set up the corn hole boards underneath to play at night or when the weather was bad. Very close to beach access for either a short walk or golf cart ride. Martha includes just about everything so we probably brought more than we needed. And if you have any questions, she responds immediately. I highly recommend this property and will definitely try and rent it again in the future. Thanks again for a great stay.
So glad you discovered all the special little options Burden's End has to offer for gathering and enjoying friends and family. Hope you can come visit again real soon! We'll leave the porch light on.....
We all enjoyed our stay at the Burdens End beautiful beach house. We enjoyed how close the house was the beach, restaurants and surf shops on the island. The house is gorgeous along with the views from the top decks. We had enough space and didn’t feel cramped. Our favorite place was the hammock area and of course the kitchen where we cooked most of our meals for the week. We definitely will be back. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely beach house that felt like home to us.
What an awesome home!!! Great hospitality provided by homeowners! House could not have been more perfect!!!
We are so glad you and your family had a wonderful visit! Sounds like the house worked its magic once again! Hope to "sea" you again soon!!!
Great Place To Stay in OIB
This was our 2nd time staying in this home. It is the perfect size for at least 2 families, it is well appointed and decorated and so close to the beach. The kids love the sitting area underneath with the hammock and we all love the beach cruisers to ride for some ice cream. Will definitely be back!
We're glad you had such a fun filled stay. We will look forward to your return visit........again!
Great house, great location!!!
This house was perfect for our family celebration at the beach! Though we didn't use all of them, we loved having beds for 11 people...not sofa beds, but real beds! 3 and a half baths worked great. You can schedule showers, but can't schedule when you need to use the bathroom, so the half bath was fantastic! So close to the beach, too! It took me 2 minutes, 26 seconds to walk from the bottom of the steps to toes in the sand! Plenty of common spaces plus nooks and porches for when I needed a little 'me time!.' Loved the kitchen, well equipped and spacious! Also, loved the 4 porches...can always get a breeze and pretty sunsets. So far, this is my favorite beach house! One more thing, plenty of parking.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and that our house suited your needs so well. Nice to have repeat guests! We look forward to seeing you again.
Family, Relaxation, and Fun!! Thank you Mark and Marty!!!
If you’re looking for rollercoasters and traffic you might want to stay a bit further south, but if a relaxing carefree beach experience is your thing Burden’s End beach house on Ocean Isle Beach will tick all boxes.
My family and I stayed at Burden’s End on May 9th – May 13th.
We drove in after dark but had no problem finding the house and getting setup. The house is spacious, with large bedrooms, and large covered porches. Within minutes of unpacking we were able to pour ourselves some drinks and start enjoying the cool breezes and rocking chairs on the porch! After some porch time we went in to watch some TV. We had no problems starting up the many TV’s. We found our rooms and had a good nights sleep on the comfortable beds excited to see the island and the house in the daylight.
We awoke early and were soon walking the miles and miles of gorgeous beaches OIB has to offer. One thing to note, if you aren’t an early riser the rooms on the ocean side are bright in the mornings. Choose the front room if you prefer it darker. After our walk we had breakfast and some coffee. We were able to pickup all we needed at the Lowes Food and Publix Market only a couple of miles from the house. We were now ready for a big beach day! The shed under the house has all you would need for your beach day besides sunscreen. We loaded up the cart with the provided chairs and umbrellas and were setup on the beach in a few short minutes. Being only a steps away from the beach access made it very convenient to make pitstops, or refill the cooler when needed. After hours spent distressing watching the waves we headed back and made use of the awesome private outdoor shower with plenty of hot or cold water, and places to hang towels and beach bags. We cleaned up and were off to nearby Shallotte for a late lunch at Inlet View restaurant. We enjoyed the views of the Intercostal Waterway, Shallotte River, and surrounding islands. I recommend the crab cake sandwich!
That evening we walked the nearby pier. Another note, it’s a dollar to walk the pier but that goes toward it’s restoration, which is much needed. After enjoying the sunset on the pier we walked across the street to a River Country Mini Golf course. We had a great time although my daughter beat me by two strokes! Back at the house we had some more porch time, did I mention there are four porches! each with a different perspective on the island! We watched a movie on the 4K TV and hit the sack.
So glad y'all enjoyed your stay and took part in so many of the activities our part of the world offers....including relaxation! Please come visit again soon.
Wonderful trail into the marsh just a couple of blocks from the house for a unique experience few get to enjoy. Lots of history in the area along with a nearby ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher.
