This is a great house on a sunny lot in Soda Springs! It is BIG! - almost 3,000 square feet. It is perfect for large family gatherings or getting together with friends. It sleeps 17 people in beds and futons and has 3 1/2 BATHROOMS (that's important)!!! Bring three families and share the expenses.

For downhill skiers, the house is two miles from Sugar Bowl or Donner Ski Ranch and four miles from Boreal. Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows are about 30 minutes away. Soda Spings Mountain Resort is a quarter mile away and designed for young kids and families. Royal Gorge, the LARGEST cross country ski resort in North America, is less than a quarter mile from our house.

In the late spring, summer, and fall, there is boating, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, and both mountain and road biking -- something for everyone. HIKERS will enjoy the PACIFIC CREST TRAIL, just two miles from the house. MOUNTAIN BIKERS can experience the HOLE IN THE GROUND single track trail, which is rated 11th in the world for advanced bikers. It actually passes in front of our house. Donner Summit is a ROCK CLIMBERS paradise. There are hundreds of routes on beautiful granite, right off the road two miles from the house. Most are Class 5. Donner Lake is five really beautiful miles away and Ice Lakes (Serene) is two miles away.

The first floor is a bunk room/game room. It is IDEAL FOR TEENAGERS! It has a queen futon, a full futon, and two bunk beds. One of the bunk beds has a full size bed on the bottom. There is also a pool table, a ping-pong table, large flat screet TV, a stereo, a and a DVD player. The first floor is heated with a large propane fireplace and has a full bathroom. The entry room on the first floor also has a queen futon and can be closed off for privacy to create a FOURTH bedroom.

The second floor is BEAUTIFUL - very rustic and warm with vaulted, open beam ceilings and lots of windows. It has a 'great room' style living room, dining room, and kitchen; a master bedroom and bathroom; a laundry room (laundry soap and fabric sheets are provided); and a half bath. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. The kitchen is spacious and fully furnished. The living room includes a very efficient propane fireplace.

The third floor has two bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen-size bed and the other has a full-size bed.

LINENS ARE INCLUDED for all beds and futons.

We have a sunny front deck and a shady back deck with a gas bar-b-que. The one-car garage has SLEDS and SNOW SHOES as well as places to store your gear. There is also a horse shoe pit and a really cool OFF ROAD GOLF COURSE behind the house. The house is on a road that is plowed well and often. There is parking for five vehicles.

This is a dog friendly home. You know your dog. If you're going to be out all day and leave your dog in the house, make sure he or she can handle that kind of situation. We do not have a fenced yard. There is an additional one-time $25 fee for pets.

We love our house and look forward to our own family gatherings. We really enjoy sharing it with other families and absolutely love hearing about their visits. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

About The Owner

My husband and I love the Tahoe area and we’ve been looking for the right house for years. We found this great house in Soda Springs and talked my parents into buying it with us. Our family has so much fun up there! We like to ski/board, snow shoe, hike, bike, kayak, play horseshoes and cards, eat, drink, and generally enjoy life! Because the house is big, it holds the whole family – three generations. It’s a wonderful place to get together and we really enjoy sharing it with others and hearing their stories!

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Soda Springs

Soda Springs is a really great area. It’s a very small town with a Mom & Pop grocery store, a couple of ski/board rental shops, and sometimes a gas station! Everyone says it’s what Tahoe used to look like. Soda Springs offers the perfect small town atmosphere and we have Truckee, with all of it's ammenities, just 15 minutes away. We have Donner Lake and Ice Lakes within five minutes of the house and a creek a really short walk away. Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs Ski Resort, and Royal Gorge are between one and five minutes away. We have neighbors, but don’t live in a neighborhood with someone right next door. There are pine trees everywhere!

Wonderful Relaxing Weekend in the snow

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 15 (4 families of adults and children) and this house was perfect for our group for the following reasons:

1. There was a split level where the kids could play (1st floor) on their own and adults could have time in our own space on the 2nd floor.

2. It was more than spacious with plenty of areas to hang out and relax

3. We were blessed with awesome timing as earlier in the week, a nice snowfall turned our weekend into a winter paradise. Kids could play with the snow on the front balcony (plenty of room) and we were able to carve out a snow sledding area behind the house

4. Very close to ski resorts (Boreal was less than 15 min away)

5. The house was stocked with all the amenities you could need - we BBQ'd, played pool, borrowed some of the sleds and made use of the extra blankets and snow shoes.

Overall great place for families with young kids! Kitchen was also stocked with pots, pans, utensils, some spices - all things you could need for cooking up nice meals in the snow.

Hosts are super responsive and helpful - made our stay really easy.

We loved it so much we are going back again this spring!

Convenient location, well equipped cabin.

  • 5 of 5

Getting to the property is quite easy even when it was already dark when we get there. We settled down quickly with the instructions/welcome guide provided by the owner. Our stay was too short to enjoy all the attraction nearby but location was supposed to be very convenient for Soda Springs resort. Unfortunately it was closed due to lack of new snow. We ended up going to Boreal which is was also relatively easy drive from the cabin.

The property turned out to be better than we expected, aside from the game room (pool, table tennis), most appliances were newer than it looks in the Ads. They actually have 2 good size Smart TV (not the old CRT as in the picture) and was able to use the active Netflix account to watch Movie while others are playing games and pool. Kitchen practically has all you need, in case you missed to bring along stuffs. There are even Winter garments and shoes, may not have your size but there is a good chance it can be used by those missing to pack their own (my wife was able to borrow a pair of shoes, she thought it was more comfortable than the one she brought). And there were sports equipment in the garage that can be used for other outdoor activities. We simply do not have enough time.

One thing we observed, the hot water pressure seem to be intermittent. It was more evident when we were rushing to prepare for the morning check-out and all bathroom were simultaneously used for an extended period. But it was quite a minor setback to the overall very nice experience during our stay.

Thanks Colleen!

Great! Especially with kids (game room)

  • 5 of 5

The house is well maintained and clean. It had everything we needed from utensils and stuff in the kitchen to the bathrooms. The game room was great for kids; but it did get a bit cold in there at night (with temps around freezing) despite having a portable heater in addition to the fireplace. The house is off of a main road so you will hear cars driving by and the train especially at night. So if you are looking for more of a secluded, in the woods experience this may not be for you. On the other hand the house was conveniently located, close to ski resorts, Donner Lake, and Truckee. The owner was easy to reach. All the directions about the house were provided clearly.

Great house for a big group or multiple families! Located very close to excellent skiing and hiking

  • 4 of 5

Our group of nine trail runners booked this house for before and after the Sierra Crest 50K. The location was perfect - very close to the finish at Boreal, and close to Sugar Bowl and the PCT, where we hiked the next day. The house has a nice, open kitchen/living/dining area, which opens to decks on the front and back of the house. The front deck is especially large, and has plenty of furniture for lounging. The downstairs gameroom/bunkroom is really cool: with a pool table, ping pong, and video games, it would be a kids' heaven! The garage is equipped with plenty of equipment for outdoor activities as well. We played horseshoes and the "off-road golf" game in the backyard (so fun!). We found the property to be clean and well-kept, with everything in working order (there had been a water leak in the downstairs ceiling that the owner had fully informed us about in advance and was under repair). The only thing we were not expecting was the train (tracks are across the street, fairly close). We could hear the train several times during the day (and night) - not sure what the winter schedule is like. Overall, a very nice stay - we would stay here again!
