Bonjour et bienvenue à Uzes!

A woman said to me, many years ago : 'The first time I saw Uzes I cried. It was wonderful to see a village so beautiful and ancient yet so alive and vibrant'. Well it is still wonderful now and I look forward to helping you experience the magic of Uzès and what the locals believe is the "real France"!

To enter your apartment you walk through a huge oak door off a classically French cobblestone, pedestrian street. As you walk up to the first level of this ancient, stone house you will know you have found your own 'home away from home' in traditional France.

Your apartment welcomes you with the warmth of stone walls, beamed ceilings, elegant lighting and colors. You will find all the comforts of home with gas central heating, very well equipped kitchen and all the little touches that make a difference: guide books, UNLIMITED WIFI, PHONE WITH UNLIMITED CALLS TO FIXED LINES ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, CABLE TV, traveling book library, maps, ideas from previous guests and a market basket to ensure you are equiped from your very first day. We even have a picnic basket and thermos and utensils ready for you!

Being south facing the apartment has excellent natural light and at 46 square metres it is very comfortable for a couple and perhaps 1 child or other adult.

When you walk out of the front door, you are in the very heart of the 'ancient town'. You can spend hours exploring the maze of little winding streets and historic sites, soak up incredible art, sculptures homewares and clothes shops.. or you could take a picnic to the river valley just a few minutes walk away - or just soak up the atmosphere of this town that has been declared a national treasure. The famous market on Wednesdays and Saturdays is at the end of your street. Cafes, patisseries, boulangeries, restaurants, hairdressers, banks are all within a few metres of the front door. Yet the apartment is tranquil and relaxing.

There is free car parking (open air) or paid parking can be arranged at our private garage just a few minutes flat walk away. It is great if you can plan your arrival on a Friday or a Tuesday, to be there to enjoy the famous Uzès market the next day, to get your provisions for the week and to begin to meet and get to know the locals. However there is no set change over date for the apartment.

I want you to enjoy your stay so I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the region or the apartment. Having traveled to France a lot (and often with children!) believe me - there are no silly questions!

Please note: Just email me directly and I will provide an exact rental quote. Do not rely on the automated quoting tool on this site as I do offer some small discounts for longer stays (over 3 weeks etc). Also - to keep your rental reasonable, I do not accept payment through this site.

I look forward to helping you enjoy a trouble free, enchanting stay in Uzès.

J'espère parler avec vous très bientôt!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Recently, for the third consecutive year, we spent a week in Ucetia. That, in itself, should endorse our recommendation.

The apartment is very comfortable, and contains all that one requires for a relaxing week. Lots of options for entertainment if you wish to stay in - TV, WiFi, movies etc. This trip we especially appreciated use of the phone as we had some urgent business to deal with in Canada.

The location is perfect. One block to the central Place aux Herbes, 2 meters to a butcher, 3 meters to a baker, about 20 meters to a small supermarket. If you want to eat in, the kitchen is fully equipped.

A great place to forget the problems at home and enjoy the local way of life.

The apartment is one of only 3 in an historic, stone village pied a terre. The original features such as exposed stone walls and ceiling beams have been preserved and sensitively combined with modern fittings and features. It has good gas central heating as well as good plumbing and electricity (2007) so you can be assured of every comfort. The bathroom has a full-sized bath and the kitchen is very well equipped. It is perfect for a couple or maybe with another guest or child. The access is via an easy one level walk up, with the apartment being all on one level. If you are arriving by car you can park about 10 metres away, at the end of the street to unload your baggage. The secure, undercover car parking is then within a 5 minute flat walk. Teenagers and young adults also enjoy this position as they are right in 'centre ville' and can access the nearby cinema, cafes, wine bars and local music and drama performances that are regularly held in Uzes.

We were very impressed with this apartment. It surpassed our expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights in August, but would have loved to stay longer. The apartment was very comfortable and well appointed and the location- excellent! Monica was a fantastic host and a great source of local knowledge. She was really friendly and helpful. Our experience was a very positive one. Uzes is a delightful historic village and we would love to visit again.

Hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

We stay here for one week in June, so glad we did. Its so convenient, right in the middle of this beautiful town. The market so close, restaurants wonderful and a joy to just roam around the town and explore. The accommodation was great, very clean, modern and well equipped. Bedroom on the small side but well made up for the location. Collection of keys easy, we used the garage, do hire a smaller car as a bit tight- although you do get use to it. Would love to return again soon - Market day is a joy! Thank you for all your help.

Owner's Response: Dear Ros, THANK YOU so much for taking the time to send this review. I will send it to Monica and she will be delighted. I am so pleased you enjoyed our home and the magical Uzes. It really is a hidden gem and we miss the community and the lifestyle when we are not there! Safe travels and we do hope that we (or Monica!) can welcome you back one day. (And yes - we always say - hire a small car! France is not known for its large garages!!) Best, Niki

Still fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed four times in Ucetia for a total of six weeks and are already discussing next year's visit! I just re-read the previous reviews and they all refer to the comfort and convenience of the apartment and it's wonderful location and I certainly endorse all their positive comments. Monica must also be mentioned for her help and advice.

What is difficult to describe is the sense of "home" that we feel living in the apartment and that makes it so enjoyable.

(This year as we entered the apartment my iPad, which remembered the WiFi password, "dinged" as my email came down. It was as if Ucetia was saying "Welcome back".)

A perfect place to experience living "like locals".

We will be back.

Owner's Response: Colin - I so appreciate you taking the time to send a review! I must admit, when we started to rent out our home in France I really did not expect so many return visits from our wonderful guests all around the world. It has become like an extended family and we now hope to get to visit our guests' regions one day. There is definitely a special feel to Ucetia - a sort of calm that you feel each time you return. We love it dearly and we are delighted each time guests such as yourself appreciate it - and feel it - like we do. In a few weeks you will be able to see our home in Manly, Sydney on VRBO as well which will be available for holiday stays. We are so lucky to have a foothold in two of the most incredibly beautiful places in the world. Thank you again for your feedback - it means everything to us. Niki and Mark

A "Slice of Heaven"!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was everything and more than we had imagined before arriving in Uzes. The place was perfectly set up to self-cater - and who wouldn't want to with such wonderful markets to buy local produce from, a boucherie directly below the apartment and a boulangerie across the street?

Our week in this wonderful town was the highlight of our month in France. We had intended to hire a car while in Uzes but the local transport was cheap and efficient and made it easy to visit the Pont du Gard, Les Baux, Avignon and a number of the nearby villages.

There are some lovely walks around Uzes and our favourite was the walk to St Quentin la Poterie where we visited a number of wonderful galleries.

It was helpful to have local support on hand when required. Our real joy was in living for a week in the middle of Uzes with the local life going on all around us and feeling so much part of it all (we lived like locals)!

We arrived in the beautiful village of Uzes and located our accommodation easily. We met Monica who showed us everything in the apartment and gave us so much wonderful information on what to see and where to visit. The apartment is central to all restaurants, public transport and amenities. The wonderful market is about 50 metres from the apartment and is fabulous. Make sure you buy all your fresh food there, it is amazing. I would not hesitate in recommending this accommodation.

Nearest Airport
25 Kilometres
Car: not necessary

Sitting right on the western edge of Provence, Uzès is perfectly located to access vineyards, famous pottery 'villages', the historic Pont Du Gard (14 km from Uzes), Chateau Neuf du Pape Region (44kms), L'Isle Sur La Sourge, the Vaucluse, Les Baux and Northern Provence (Arles is at 63kms). Cities such as Aix en Provence (137kms), Marseilles (153kms), and Montpellier (82 kms) are also within an easy 'day trip' distance. The region - The Gard, in Languedoc-Roussillon - has a vibrant art and culture activity calender, with classes held on painting, pottery, french language, singing and performance in the area. A car is very useful for these trips of course, but there are good bus services in the areas, so a car is not essential but probably recommended if possible.
