Located on a hilltop overlooking Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This unique home was designed by Charles F. Johnson, one of the Top 100 Architects in the world (according to Architectural Digest). This home is a 3,400 sq.ft. living sculpture. Based on a circlular design this double adobe home offers a rare mix of sophistication, sensuality and organic livability. What do we mean by livability? A cozy 'Kiva' style theater room with state of the art Theater-Entertainment center, a main fireplace with towering five foot flames in an arched sculpture with breathtaking elegance, and each room has unique wooden ceiling treatments from weathered aspen to Indian style pine lattias, amazing views of both mountains and city lights from inside and outside on the grand terrace, an outdoor spa/hot tub in a private natural setting with the same amazing views, dramatic indoor lighting, plus much, much more. . . . Oh yeah, and an elevator to the lower garage floor making the home very accessible to all ages (and just plain fun).
All this tucked into a very private hillside community just 1 mile north of one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations, Santa Fe's Historic Plaza district, famous for it's beauty, shopping, restaurants, art galleries and historic old world charm.
Beautiful hillside neighborhood, close to everything, yet very intimate. A long private drive-way and top-of-the-hill location make you feel far away from city life while just minutes away from the action. Pinon, Aspen, and Juniper trees all around the property, creating a private an oasis in the high-desert mountains.
We had selected this house from the VRBO gallery because of its stunning architecture and gracious ambiance. Nothing prepared us, however, for the extraordinary sense of beauty in the design and openness of the rooms, the spectacular way the wall of windows brings the outside indoors, and the gracious size of each bedroom. The dining area is rather a focal point of the great room, and it is exquisitely designed and furnished. Our group consisted of my son-in-law, daughter and 6 month-old baby. The master suite was ideal for them! The "guest" bedroom was at least as large as the master, complete with spectacular views. We thoroughly enjoyed the art work by the owner. The property managers, Isabella and Tanya, had arranged for a beautiful poinsettia to be placed in the large room along with a bag of freshly ground Starbuck's Coffee. What great hospitality! The elevator was a wonderful plus for getting our bags up into the house. We were so enthralled with the beauty of being inside this lovely home, we were content just to be inside the house instead of frantically sight seeing. If/when I return to Santa Fe, a stay in this beautiful house would be at the top of my list. We would love to try it in the warmer months.
This was the perfect place for me to stay; I needed and got healing from simply being in this home and setting. Everything about the design is worthy of recognition, I enjoyed it all, every detail of the way the round spaces flowed into each other, lines that gave me peace in their artistic harmony, light that infused every room and gave me a feeling of creative freedom. I am grateful for my time here and hope to return many times.
We felt particularly blessed to stay in this house during a time of medical procedures that would have been far more difficult in any other space I can imagine. The design and ambiance of this home is a rare combination of sanctuary and inspirational flow that allowed us to settle into a peacefulness of inner retreat and outward wonder. The architect's genius for harmonious flow is combined beautifully with the owner's sense of gracious living, allowing us to let go of the stress of our situation and open naturally to the healing peace around us. The setting feels profoundly private and protected while also open to the vastness that characterizes New Mexico. Every day, we found comfort in the outdoor patio, marveling at the glorious changing colors of late afternoon storms caught by the distant mountains as light and shadows moved into colorful sunsets. I treasure the experience of having stayed in this home and look forward to coming back again and again.
Gorgeous home; very unique architecture but totally "Santa Fe” with an incredibly comfortable flow and coziness to it. We stayed for just over two weeks and spent quite a lot of time there since it had so much to offer. We had friends for cocktails before going out to dinner, as well as having people over for dinner, everyone loved it! The mornings are so quiet, with such beautiful views, sitting out on the patio. Sunsets are spectacular, leading into the twinkle of the city lights from inside the house, outside on the patio or the hot tub. We were always running back to the house so not to miss any of the sunsets. Minutes from the plaza, great location! The owner has a great eye for interesting pieces and wonderful art work (many his own paintings!), keeping it very livable instead of feeling like you’re in a museum. Isabella and Richard who manage the property are wonderful. They all make you feel so welcomed, always ready and willing to help so your stay is just perfect! We can’t wait to come back!
We have been staying in David's house for the last 7-8 years. In the last 30 years we have stayed all over Santa Fe, but this house is by far the best. The house truly is architecturally unique and David has furnished it with many interesting and unusual pieces. It has a spacious floor plan that is abundant in natural light with beautiful views of the mountains. The terrace is my favorite place to be in the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book. It is so peaceful and the air is fresh and clean. The desert landscape draws in the birds and butterflies and it just couldn't be more relaxing. The terrace is also the best place to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun go down as the city lights begin to twinkle.
We don't usually sleep well when we travel, but we sleep like the dead in the Sleep Number bed. There is also a Tempurpedic bed. The bed linens are soft and comfortable as are the bath towels. The house is immaculate and lovingly cared for by the property managers, Richard and Isabella, who we adore. They are so attentive to the details that really make the stay exceptional.
Finally, during the winter, after a hard day of skiing we are thankful that the house is only a minute or so from town. We can zip in and grab a pizza, and be back at the house in time for sunset. Gotta mention how much we love the elevator too, but it runs a close race with the oversized fire place where you can build a serious fire.
I guess I really shouldn't leave out the theater room that does have super comfy cuddle furniture that can easily accommodate our family of four. I rarely watch tv in this house but I did make an exception for Wimbledon! Oh, and there are tennis courts just down the highway at Fort Marcy! Bonus!!!
a nice place to relax after a day of hiking or shopping or even "doing nothing" like we (a family of 4) did the first days of our week here due to snow, hail, storm...(oh yes, seriously in the middle of May)
the earthy decor (colors, shapes, material etc...) the grand terrace, the luxury comfort... what else do we need when we are away from home?
about the weather, no worry though. as santa-feans say "when you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes"
