About the property

Escape to a Gorgeous Waterfront Whidbey Island Home with Stunning Views.

The Soaring Eagle Lodge on Whidbey Island is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This spectacular waterfront home overlooks the Puget Sound, Mount Baker and the beautiful Cascade Mountain Range. Enjoy stunning views throughout the lodge and along our 300 feet of bluff frontage, with an adventure trail leading down to your own private beach.

Soaring Eagle Lodge is nestled on 2.7 acres of towering evergreen trees, 100 feet above the waters of Skagit Bay and the Puget Sound.

The home takes its name from the majestic bald eagles that soar along the water’s edge and Soaring Eagle Lodge is lucky to have a bald eagle nest right on the property. Bald eagle nests are the largest of any bird in North America and we have a clear view of our nest from the Great Room. Our eagle pair have successfully raised 10 chicks since they first built their nest in 2004.

Soaring Eagle Lodge caters to those who enjoy luxury accommodations and modern conveniences. From deluxe Sleep Number beds, cozy plush robes, heated bathroom floors, 3 fireplaces, a Weber Genesis gas grill and an outdoor jacuzzi hot tub – to a gourmet kitchen which will delight any chef, you will feel indulged throughout your stay.

Sit by a warm fire with a cup of tea or coffee and gaze out through our 24 ft wall of windows at the spectacular water and mountain views.

Whidbey Island and the surrounding area offer a wide range of activities, including golf, sailing, fishing, kayaking, whale watching, boat tours, horseback riding, bird watching, hiking, biking, shopping, farmer's markets and more. In addition, Whidbey Island is home to a number of excellent wineries, distilleries, breweries & tasting rooms and has many festivals & events throughout the year.

We are centrally located for day trips to Port Townsend, Anacortes, Langley, Coupeville, La Connor, the San Juan Islands and Victoria BC. In addition, we are only 90 miles from both Seattle and Vancouver BC in Canada. However you choose to spend your time, you will feel rested and relaxed after your visit to Soaring Eagle Lodge.

Whidbey was identified as one of the 5 best places on the planet to visit by the New York Times “T Magazine” and Life Magazine voted Whidbey as one of the top 100 places in the world to visit.

We do not allow weddings, parties, graduations, receptions or any similar kind of event. The maximum number of guests allowed in the home or on the property is limited to 8 registered guests at any time.

We are selective about who we rent our home to and enjoy getting to know our guests prior to booking. If you make an inquiry, please share a little about yourself and your background, about the guests in your group, and what brings you to our beautiful Whidbey Island. Please also include the best phone number and best email address to reach you at as part of your inquiry.

Relax and enjoy the view

  • 5 of 5

Soaring Eagle Lodge is beautiful. The house is well-appointed with the kitchen being the obvious standout. We unnecessarily packed a few cooking items only to find them stocked (sometimes in triplicate) in the lodge’s excellent kitchen. Each room in the lodge has its own charm and, like a hotel, there are amenities stocked throughout to make the stay convenient.

The property is well maintained but retains a natural feel; the yard is manicured and colorful and the trail to the beach, though steep, is secure and safe. We enjoyed seeing the hidden fairy homes throughout the property, and they made the climb to the and from the beach enjoyable. Like the home, the property is a welcome and relaxing venue to enjoy the scenery and tranquility associated with island living.

Ned is a responsive and excellent host. He was quick to respond to queries and left notes throughout the house that made ‘learning’ a new house frustration free. He followed up the visit with a gracious text that made us feel that we’d visited a friend’s home, which made our weekend away from the city feel all the warmer. Thank you.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We’ve just returned from one of the best “girls weekend” getaways we’ve ever had! Soaring Eagle Lodge is amazing! The views from the house are breathtaking, the fully equipped kitchen is glorious and the beds and rooms are so cozy and welcoming. Two thumbs up to some marvelous accommodations! We had a wonderful stay in this lovely home... only wish we could have stayed longer!

Amazing Getaway at the Soaring Eagle Lodge

  • 5 of 5

This 9 day retreat/vacation my family and several very close friends of ours just had at this beautiful lodge will definitely be remembered as one of our most memorable moments together.

I'm a city person and staying at this lodge for all those days was just amazing. From the moment I walked in, I knew we were all going to have a fantastic time. This lodge was huge!

The lodge from outside looks very impressive. Indoor, you have two beautiful living rooms, a great big gourmet kitchen that is very well stocked (a dreak kitchen), a huge dining area, 4 bedroom that includes a library room, a hot tub, outdoor dining, fire pit, and above all, the breathtaking view from the living room and back yard. We stayed in the room downstairs and it had its own huge tub and a fire place...what a great treat this was. You will not be disappointed with staying here because aside from just lounging in this fabulous lodge, you can take advantage of the many activities around the island as well. My family and our group went hiking up a hill to see more breathtaking views of the surrounding islands, blueberry picking, beach walks, clam digging, biking, dining out, and so on.

We definitely look forward again to booking a getaway trip at this lodge. This might actually turn into an annual get-together/retreat for our family and close friends. A definite 5 star experience for this place!!!

Beautiful in every way!

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolutely stunning home with room for grandparents, parents, and young children. There are large spaces where everyone can gather, and cozy nooks that provide a personal retreat. The gourmet kitchen is stocked with all the equipment one needs to prepare a family sit-down dinner, and there is plenty of room for multiple cooks. The interior is beautifully decorated with furnishings that are high quality and comfortable; the kinds of things you might choose for your own home.

The surrounding yard is wonderfully natural. We enjoyed the adventure trail that took us down to the rocky beach, and my three year old and six year old granddaughters never tired of looking for the Fairy Gardens. The girls noticed subtle changes to some of the fairy homes during the week we were there and kept a vigil so that they might actually catch a glimpse of one of the fairies. Alas, though, the fairies stayed hidden from view. When we weren't looking for the fairies we were gathering pine cones, feathers, and lichen, or peering through the pine trees to see the eagles.

We visited in August, and the weather was perfect. The sun was warm during the day, but the evenings were cooler. We grilled our freshly-caught salmon on the grill, and enjoyed the always-ready hot tub in the cool evenings.

Thank you for creating this warm, inviting home away from home.

Spent a long weekend with my dearest friends... for a culinary extravaganza every night! Home absolutely beautiful, the views were spectacular, and the kitchen is amazing! With 3 couples, 2 kids from various walks of life representing Honolulu, Chicago, and San Diego converging unto the spacious property, you really didn't get into people's way even if you tried! ... every morning was spent gazing into the peaceful Puget Sound as we watched the sun come over Mt Baker and the American bald eagles nestled in the tree tops ... evenings we enjoyed after dinner cordials in the great room or hot tub, while the kids played in the den / family room. Alone time needed? There are numerous sitting areas around the property, my favorite is the bench at the top of the bluff near trail head to the beach, or take in a book in the reading nook beneath skylights overlooking the atrium on the second floor, or perhaps in study on the main floor with wifi if privacy needed. Spent the days exploring and adventuring around the island, picking up local foods to table that night; even my 5yo would walk along the fence line to pick blackberries to make pie but would eat most before returning to kitchen... there were never enough. This gourmet foodie retreat with bffs was very healing...our family had an amazing time and left relaxed, refreshed, rested and rejuvinated. I highly recommend this place for your next (culinary) retreat...

Perfect Getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

I give this a 5 star simply because VRBO does not have a 6 stars rating!

Recently celebrated a reunion with old friends at this gorgeous home. We were most comfortable at the soaring eagle lodge which has large bedrooms and a hot tub to relax. The huge kitchen with two dishwashers made our turn cooking different international cuisine fun. Every guest need has been thought of by the owners in advance, the lodge has everything:)

Wake up to stunning views of Puget sound - boats going out crabbing at sunrise, deer in the yard, and bald eagles chirping. There is even an eagle's nest in the tall Douglas fir located on the property. The kids had a fun time finding the fairy homes hidden amidst the trees. Sunset on Mt. Baker right opposite with snow glowing orange and pink takes your breath away. This private home is an exceptional location on Whidbey island.

Simply climb down the stairs to a private beach just below and be one with nature. Driftwood, mussels, and other sea treasures are waiting. We enjoyed some fun activities in the Pacific Northwest - kayaking deception pass, clamming, whale watching, and exploring quaint waterfront towns this past week. I highly recommend the soaring eagle lodge. Can't wait to come back....
