We've been there before years ago and it's exactly as I remember. I'm glad the driveway is paved now making it much easier to get up that hill! For those that aren't aware, there is still a mile-ish of road that is graded gravel/dirt. We've done that road in lowered cars and didn't have a single issue; not sure about motorcycles. Definitely worth staying at and would stay again!
A fabulous respite from the noise and bustle.
It was a wonderful stay, far away from the crowds and the noise of the city. Watching the sunlight glinting on the spiderwebs from the porch, listening to the creek, admiring the stars from the hot tub - all relaxing and quiet ways to regain our sense of equilibrium. The warm ginger cookies to welcome us were icing on the cake. Thank you.
Definitely an unpleasant experience. Full disclosure not given by owner.
Prior to my reservation, I informed the owner that we were on motorcycles. I asked about the drive to the lodge and was informed there was hard packed gravel and then a paved driveway. The gravel was loose. There were a few LARGE stones, lots of ruts and holes. The driveway was extremely steep and had a sharp hairpin curve and then a sharp right hand turn uphill to a gravel area. There was a note in the cabin that we were to haul the trash to dumpsters which were approximately 7 miles away. Well, it's not safe or possible to do this on our motorcycles. So I called the owner to be polite to give him a heads up. His reply was we brought in and could take it out. I explained to him why this was not possible. He again reiterated that it's our trash and we should take it to the dumpster. I stated that he was just going to have to be understanding and realized that it's not possible for us to do that on motorcycles. So he begrudgingly stated he would come get the trash and take it to the dumpster. However, he was very rude about it. When I rented online, it had a rate per night and did not say anything about paying per person. We had 2 people added to our group at the last minute. The owner came by on our last night right after we got back from a ride. He asked how many people were there. I told him and he said I owed more money because it was more guests than I had stated and payment was based on number of guests. Well I checked and the price for 2-7 guests is the same. The price changes at 8 guests. There was nothing to this effect in the description. I told him I was not asking these people for more money now and we had a done deal. He made a rude effort to get more money but I did not think this was fair at all and I was not going there. The bedspread in the upstairs master br smelled bad as if it had never been cleaned. In one of the downstairs bedrooms, there was enough space to pass an envelope between the wood wall and you could see light coming through it. There is a creek nearby but it's a strenuous walk round trip. The bedroom tv did not have satellite reception. Lots of pots and pans and cooking utensils. Minimum paper towels and minimum toilet paper. Oh yeah! I spoke to him Friday before our Saturday arrival and he said the weather was going to be great. I already new there was 100% chance of rain on Monday and that the temp would drop and be chilly for riding. Just another example of his misinformation and lack of information.
We have been renting our log cabin for over 10 years. We have dealt with lots of great people, many have been motorcycle riders, most have been a pleasure to deal with, this group leader was the exception. We offer a very nice log cabin in a remote mountain setting. We are not a motel off of the interstate with easy access and all of this is disclosed upfront. One more consideration: our rental rates are disclosed in all of our advertising with large groups of 7 or more paying an additional guest fee up to a maximum of 10 guests. This booking was made for 8 guests, the quote given was for 8 guests, and we were paid for 8 guests even though this group had 10 guests staying at our cabin. We understand that group sizes can change prior to check-in but no effort was made by the renter to disclose or make right this small issue. Yes, we are truly sorry that this renter had such issues with our cabin. By the way, we hauled off 5 large garbage bags full of trash (without even a please or thank you) and yes, I sometimes can get the weather wrong! All of our other reviews have been stellar what is going on here?
Wonderful property for our purposes and gracious owners.
We planned this trip primarily to be near the Snowbird Wilderness for hiking but also to just get away from normal routines. It was a success on all levels. The cabin was great and the location was just what we wanted: remote and peaceful. We were fortunate to meet Brad and Ginger and they are great folks and hosts. I gained a new appreciation for the property after learning that Brad actually built the cabin himself. We were also fortunate to be there during the (unofficial) Buffalo Creek Octoberfest celebration and enjoyed a nice evening of music and fellowship just down the road at a neighbors house. What a nice surprise and many thanks to Brad for inviting us!
Beautiful, quiet retreat!
Our entire group loved the Lodge, the hot tub, and the privacy! That being said, we were on motorcycles and there was a lot of rain while we were there. We managed to get in and out, but it was a bit of a challenge at times.
Thanks for the great review, we are so glad you had wonderful time, we will do a better job with the weather next time! Brad and Ginger
Beautiful cabin with a very peaceful environment
This cabin truly has everything! The kitchen has everything you need except the food. We spent so much time on the massive porch making a good deal of noise without a soul hearing us. The hot tub was a great thing coming back from the tail of the Dragon. We had 4 motorcycles, 2 trucks and 1 trailer parked outside and still room to turn around. Will definitely be going back!
This new log cabin is located about 14 miles due West of Robbinsville, NC in an unspoiled and unpopulated area with lush forests, tall mountains and fast flowing mountain streams. The setting is so special that it will probably redefine the the terms 'private and remote'. This is a no stress environment offering a scenic feast for the eyes, clean air and water and the natural background sound of a bold mountain stream cascading over large boulders. The immediate area offers trout fishing, hiking or strolling, extreme mountain biking, hunting, ATV riding and nature walks or just rest! A short drive away, you will find boating on Lakes Santeetlah and Fontana, scenic driving or motorcycling on the Cherohala Skyway and The Tail of the Dragon. Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock and Big Snowbird Wilderness Area. Cherokee and Harrah's Casino. Smoky Mountain Scenic Railroad. Stecoah Valley Center, whitewater rafting, fine dining and local art and craft studios Other Activities: ride ATV (four wheelers) right from the front door for miles and miles
