We are Barry and Chris from Stockport, just outside of Manchester. When Chris broke both ankles in a fall, Barry decided that he would do something special. He knew that Chris loved the Peak District and as soon as she was able, Barry took her for a ride through the Peaks and they drove through Bradwell, purely by chance. They turned into a little lane and there before them stood this beautiful little cottage, which was For Sale! They both instantly fell in love with it. The owner accepted our offer and we instantly started to put our stamp on it! What a wonderful weekend retreat it has become. Both of us enjoy getting involved with local charities, especially the Christie - a leading cancer hospital in Manchester. We have organised several events, among them auctions, which have involved us offering the cottage for weekends to the highest bidder. Recently we have decided to offer Chime Cottage for rental, as our busy lives deny us the pleasure of every weekend away - though we do try to get there as often as possible! We know what a wonderful time our guests have had here and hope our future guests will find the same haven of peace, comfort and enjoyment in this glorious part of the world!

everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Very accommodating hosts. Thank you
The chime cottage provided us with a central location to several beautiful historic sites. Be aware neighborhood streets are narrow and steep. The locals are helpful and friendly. The cottage was clean and well equipped for the needs of our stay.
Great communication with owner, clean and spacious cottage set in a very pretty village. Lots of steep hills!
Some lovely walks on the doorstep, we particularly enjoyed our walk to Bradwell Edge. Thank you again
Peaceful cosey cottage
Charming cosey cottage, it was so peaceful you could hear a pub job, nice and clean with plenty of nice touches throughout the cottage to make it feel home from home.
A few places very nearby, lovely local cafe near by “the bake house” then there’s a “co op” for anything else plus and a few pubs all within a few minutes walking distance
Definitely recommend and hope to stay again when in the area
We loved this cottage, so quirky and different to anywhere we had stayed before. Very clean, really homely and everything we needed. Thanks so much x
Quaint cottage in a lovely village.
All your needs catered for and great communication with the hosts.
Will certainly return sometime.
Bradwell is ideally situated in the heart of the Peak District. There are the Castleton Caves, namely Treak Cliff Cavern, Speedwell subterranean Cavern, The Blue John Mine - home of the famous Blue John Stone - and Peak Cavern, commonly known as ' The Devil's Arse!'
These are all open to the public and offer a tour guide service. The Speedwell Cavern is toured by boat many metres below the hillside. Castleton Village is beautifully quaint and lined with craft shops and gem shops as well as cafes and pubs and hike shops. During the Christmas season the roads are alight with Christmas trees and decorations, a snow or dry sleigh ride and Carols in the caves, offering mulled wine and mince pies!
During the spring months the hills are alive with hikers and walkers from all parts of the world.During the summer months the villages play out the 'Well-dressing' festivals, with cream teas, flower festivals, brass bands and Blessing services. Some villages hold their annual carnivals during this time.
Sheep trials are abundant also at this time.
The nearby spa town of Buxton is a must see place, offering Victorian settings in its Pavilion, craft fairs, music festivals and tea dances. There are caves here also and lots for children to get involved with in the adventure playgrounds and the miniature train rides. Its great for shopping too!. There's the Opera House, which hosts celebrated musicians, drama, musicals etc. (booking is advisable).
Close to Bradwell is the village of Edale - famous among walkers and hikers - and home to Edale Railway Station.
A short drive takes you to many other Peak villages, such as Hathersage, where lies the grave of 'Little John' of Robin Hood, and Eyam village, the only place outside of London that suffered from the 'Black Death' and is known as 'Plague Village'. The award winning museum tells the horrific story.
Also nearby is Darley Dale, with its 'lovers leap' and a steam train ride to glorious Matlock. Here you can take a cable car up to The heights of Abraham and visit the Victorian spa town of Matlock Bath.
From Bradwell you can drive to the cities of Nottingham, Sheffield, Derby and Manchester, which lie between a half hour to one and a half hour away.
