Why Jugna Shah chose Salina Grande

This house was built by a French architect and decorated by his house and we were lucky enough to purchase the house just shortly after it was built. The house is well built with spacious rooms, nice-sized bathrooms, and lots of private outdoor space.

What makes this house unique

The house is located within walking distance to Chedraui - the huge full size grocery store that opened in late 2011. Being able to walk over and stock up on supplies and fresh bread and produce daily is a real treat! And if you don't feel like cooking, you can reach several of the island's best places to eat on foot within minutes. Taxi's are plentiful on the island and you can grab one outside of our front gate within minutes. The home is very private yet close to fabulous restaurants, beaches and downtown.

La Casa Luna Y Sol - awesome place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This house totally exceeded our expectations! The home is lovely, with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and a well-equiped kitchen. The private pool with a waterfall made it feel like a tropical paradise. Everything was very clean, the property manager made us feel like we were close friends and he made sure that we had everything we needed to make our visit perfect. I was a little worried prior to going there because the house was not in the heart of the activity at Playa Norte. After our first day, I was so happy to get back to the privacy and relaxation of the house after a day at the beach or in town shopping. The cab ride was only $2 for the entire car and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a cab. We rented golf carts and mopeds for the first day and toured the entire island. What a great experience! After that, we did not need transportation. Isla Mujeres is like taking a step back in time. In our opinion, Isla gives you the opportunity to get a glimpse of the simple life and culture of the people, without all of the hoopla. The restaurants were excellent and extremely inexpensive. We had planned to cook a few nights, but ended up eating out every night. We couldn't wait to try all of the places. We ate at Medina Tacos, Bamboo, Angelos, a great Cuban place, and a Bistro on a corner of Hidalgo that cooked steaks and fish right outside on a grill. The drinks are two for one almost everywhere and are excellent. We especially enjoyed the Pina Coladas at the tiki bar behind Posada Del Mar. We went diving twice and went snorkeling at Garrafon Castillo,North Beach was not crowded and the water was beautiful. We rented chairs from Sunset Grill and stayed to watch the sunset. Best of all, the cost of our umbrellas and chairs ($30 for 2 umbrellas and 4 chairs) went toward the cost of our food and drinks. We ate lunch, had snacks, and 2 members of our group drank Sol beer all day. It only costs us about $40 - so our umbrellas and chairs were free!

One recommendation is to bring lots of $1 bills. We brought 100 ones and went through them pretty quickly. Cash is best. The beauty of not having a commercialized vacation spot made it worth having to pay cash often.

I would strongly recommend La Casa Luna Y Sol to anyone who is looking for a peaceful vacation in a tropical paradise. We cannot wait until we can go again! Make your reservations now!

Beautiful home, plenty of space for large group

  • 3 of 5

If you're interested in staying in a home that's a bit of a drive from beach and nightlife, then this is a good fit for you. Beautiful decor. Pool huge plus. Separateness of bedroom locations was nice for privacy. Beautiful view from balcony. Golf cart travel is a must. Biggest downside with this home was that the 4 or 5 window air conditioning units located in bedrooms were constantly going on the frizz. Made for very hot and humid nights. Owner quick to respond and crew of maintanance men came out several times to try to fix units--but units were so old the men eventually gave up and said they couldn't be repaired. So, much of our down time at house was spent contacting owner and coordinating repairmen schedules. Not fun on vacation. Owner was great with refunding a portion of rental fees afterwards. Unless all a/c units were replaced with brand new units, I would not stay here in the future.

Owner's Response: Lara, Thank you for your review and glad that you felt we were responsive. I apologize that the units all seemed to go on the fritz while your group was there. Rest assured that all were replaced with brand new units in time for the very next group that checked in. I'm just so sorry that we couldn't get them all replaced in time for your group to benefit but sometimes it takes a few days to get things done especially during the summer. This is why we definitely wanted to refund a part of your stay. We pride ourselves on our guests having a great experience, so I again apologize that your group's stay was less than perfect. Thank you and hope you still enjoyed your stay on the island. Jugna

overall was a really nice stay at the Luna Y Sol Casa

  • 4 of 5

very cute little house with lovely sundecks with a great view at the top balcony. Great location and so convenient to a great store for groceries etc. and just a short walk away from great little restaurant on the water.(Oscars) Everything in the house worked well, and the house manager checked in regularly to see all was okay with everything. We found the linens (towels and other things a little worn out and in need of new stuff). We felt the price was fairly high when converted to canadian dollars for a small house. My husband and i had the smallest and least nicest room of all of us (downstairs), so maybe our perspective comes from that. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the house, felt safe, and really enjoyed the pool everyday.

Great layout for multiple couples.

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay on the island and the location of your home which was close to restaurants and grocery store. Would recommend this home for couples. We rented golf carts and there was room to park 3 on the property. Isla is a great place to visit. It was safe and people were friendly and helpful. Not as touristy as Cancun which was a plus. 4 couples stayed at the house and there was plenty of room. We all loved it.

Great pool, patio, and courtyard!!! Very clean!

  • 4 of 5

This was a great house, very clean, great value. We used the pool almost everyday! I loved the location as it was centrally located on the island and close to the grocery store. We were surprised how comfortable the beds were and how quiet the house was. We've stayed places with groups before where the homes are noisy because of the tile/stucco but not the case with this house. The grounds were beautiful with plants everywhere and the rooftop patio view was second only to the cliffs on the south end of the island.

We will definitely go back to this home again!!!

Isla Mujeres is a small island, but there’s a lot to do here. The gorgeous white sand beaches on the island’s north and western sides are ideal for an afternoon of sun and relaxation. Rent a golf cart to take a tour of the island, and stop for snorkeling and lunch at Garrafon, the island’s southern tip. You can also take a boat trip with Isla’s fishermen and snorkel, fish, or visit the nearby bird sanctuary.

Playa Norte is Isla’s largest, longest and most popular beach. You can rent water toys, kayaks, snorkeling gear, chairs and umbrellas. There’s no better place to while away the afternoon at an open-air restaurant or in a shaded lounge chair. A variety of restaurants line the beach where you can enjoy fish caught moments ago, elegant Mayan-inspired cuisine, or a simple dish of beans and rice. Sunsets are particularly stunning from this point. You can even find wireless internet access at the Sunset Grill on Playa Norte.

Come and explore this gracious warm vacation home.
