Spectacular place to explore savusavu

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and i just returned from a few days in the bamboo house. The holiday was fantastic and the house was spectacular and a really great base to explore savusavu and beyond. Jolene and tom are really genuine and friendly with lots of good advice if needed and also give you space which suited us perfectly. Highly recommended!! Thanks Jolene!

Amazing view - worth the walk up all the stairs.

  • 3 of 5

Overall the impression was good, however, the property is showing a number of signs of age - Warping in the doors, which allows mosquitos into the house, the bure daybed needed a good cleaning, if you are planning on using the downstairs bedroom - be prepared for the pool pump and filter noise as it's right outside the window, the hot water is very hit and miss - mostly miss, & some of the fittings (blinds and fans) were broken. But wow! what a view, and the infinity pool is amazing

Owner's Response: We are sorry you felt The House of Bamboo is worthy of a 3 out of 5 star review, this is extremely concerning to us as we've had nothing but perfect reviews for both our properties. I would like to address the issues you have raised. Regarding the warp in the door, yes there is a slight warp but not significant enough to allow mosquitoes to enter the house. You were advised upon check in to keep all doors closed during the day to keep the mosquitoes out. The entire house is mosquito screened therefore the only way a mosquito might've entered, is if the door was left open. We supplied bug spray and personal repellent in the event of a random mosquito and there was also an electric bug zapper should the need arise. The bure daybed is thoroughly cleaned prior to any check in, this is 100% guaranteed by me as I assisted with house keeping duties that day whilst training a new cleaner. Yes the pool pump and filter does create charming background buzz, but we have not received complaints and as you were staying upstairs, I'm surprised this was an issue for you. The hot water, as was explained upon check in, was intermittent but we have now fixed that issue as we were waiting on a particular valve to arrive from overseas. The blind (singluar) that was akimbo has now been straightened and please note the fan that is claimed was broken, is in fact working. We would've love the opportunity to address these issues while you were staying with us. The only mention that you were not satisfied was as you were getting in your car upon check out. We hope that you will return to The House of Bamboo and it really was a pleasure meeting you both. Best regards, Jolene.

Second time here....can’t wait to return.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place. This was our second time to Savusavu and our first time staying at House of Bamboo Our first trip we stayed at The Pod House(Bamboo’s sister property). We found our 9 nights at Bamboo to be equally great and realized you can go wrong with either spot. We loved the pool of course and the views. The beds were comfy and the kitchen was equipped well enough for two chefs. Ceiling fans kept us cool in the evenings and we’ll screend windows kept any unwelcome bugs out. We mostly took taxis around and they were quite cheap to get to town when ever we needed. We loved being close to the Cousteau resort where I was able to access the dive shop for my open water certificate. They have two dives daily. Snorkeling directly in front of the property is very good and a short swim will take you to Split Rock and great snorkeling. We even loved the steps up to the house of Bamboo as this was pretty much our only exercise in 9 days of relaxation. Next time we visit we hope to rent both places and bring the family.

The House of Bamboo is truly a paradise here on earth!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful location plus amazing people and superb accommodations equals pure bliss!! We felt that warm hospitality months before we stepped foot in Fiji, as we began communicating with the owner, Bruce. His love for the island shines through in the care he gives to his property and those who are lucky enough to rent it for a moment in time. The house itself gives you a sense of your own lil' private space on the island, yet the real beauty lies right outside your door. From dips in the infinity pool and endless sunsets to doing morning meditation and yoga on the deck, we found ourselves spending plenty of time just enjoying nature and its breathtaking view. Trekking up and down the stairs each day gave us a sense of adventure whether it was to grab a taxi into town to shop the outdoor market, or to take the SUPs and kayaks across the road to paddle the sea. We also had the opportunity to visit some beautiful villages with our friend, Tia, who gave us the experience an authentic kava ceremony and a swim in a tranquil waterfall. We can honestly say that allowing Kalesi to prepare you an authentic meal, getting a massage from Viri, or just having an afternoon chat with Jolene can bring a smile to your face. Each of these lovely ladies made our stay even brighter than we could have imagined. The House of Bamboo was the perfect getaway for us to really relax, escape...and just enjoy being in love while living life!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I've used Homeaway many times and I can say, without qualification, that House of Bamboo was the far and away the best accommodation I've stayed in. Here's why? Incredible views of Savusavu Bay! Fantastic property, including beautiful infinity pool, gorgeous front porch for dining and hanging out, very well appointed interior and very well equipped kitchen. All very clean and upscale. And if that is not enough...

Add to that the incredible responsiveness and friendliness of the hosts, Bruce and Jennifer, their onsite managers, Tom, Alyssa and Lewis. Then, there's the wonderful other touches. Snorkel equipment and kayaks available and of course the beach is right at your front door.

We also hired Kaleesi to create a wonderful Fijian meal for us.

All of this added up to an amazing stay with the gift of much-needed R&R.

thank you Bruce, Jennifer, Tom, Alyssa, Lewis and Kaleesi!

Incredible house and perfect Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

It's hard to describe just house perfect this house was for us! We saw the House of Bamboo on VRBO months before we booked it but kept coming back to it as it looked gorgeous. When we arrived Bruce the new owner picked us up from the airport which we were really grateful for after such a long flight.

The house is up 125 steps (we counted them!) and so worth the climb as the view from the house is outstanding. The pool was perfect and the outside space just beautiful as behind you is nothing but trees and flowers and in front is that view!! The house itself is very comfortable but we just slept and cooked in it...other than that we spent most of our time outside either swimming, staring at the incredible views or watching the little birds who built a nest just outside the house hatch and feed their babies :)

The house would comfortably sleep 6 as two more bedrooms downstairs and the Pod House that is just down a few steps from our house (also owned by Bruce and Jen) would sleep another couple if you needed more room for a bigger party - the Pod House is also beautiful!

The house is a walk from the Costeau Resort and only about USD5.00 into town and cabs are easy to get so you're not too far out although at the house you feel like you're the only people for miles!

So, if you're looking for a perfect honeymoon this place is perfect! Kalisi the lady who cleans the house before you arrive is also an incredible cook, we'd highly recommend you getting her to cook her Indian and traditional Fiji dish for you. It's a great experience as you meet her at the market and buy the food and for an addition USD9 per person and her cab ride home, another USD 5 or so, she'll come up to the house and cook for you. She's such a lovely lady too and made the whole experience amazing.

Savusavu is not very touristy at all but we found a few cool places to eat and have a few drinks (by the way if you are drinkers bring as much duty free as you can as alcohol is seriously expensive at the liquor stores!!!)

We would definitely go back there but as we live in Denver it's a LONG way but the experience was just wonderful - the Fijians are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

So thanks Bruce and Jen....we SO hope we get back to visit again some time in the future!
