Lovely UP Getaway

The house was spacious and charming with an EXCELLENT view of the lake. We spent countless hours on the back porch staring at the water. We couldn't be happier with the house!!

Home is very run down. Front door is broken and unusable. Yard and landscaping has been neglected. Furniture is old, broken down and thread bare. Caretaker has stuffed foam rubber under couch cushions in an attempt to make it usable. There are 3 recliners but they are extremely old and uncomfortable. There is plywood under mattress in master bedroom and several layers of foam rubber on top of mattress. Sheets were too small and did not fit bed. The beds on the main level seemed OK for kids but the awful musty smell made sleeping there impossible. When we arrived there were 3 garbage cans full of previous tennants trash and there was food left in refrigerator. Lake Superior is spectacular and the sandy beach was amazing. However by the time we left, the sandy beach was covered with good sized rocks due to a storm that caused some very powerful waves.

Owner's Response: This review was a sham. I'm only responding to it because I don't want others to believe the trash they wrote. The renters showed up 2 hours early in 4 vehicles with more people than scheduled to stay there and were irritated when they were told they couldn't come inside until the house cleaners were finished cleaning from the previous renters. They trashed the house while there, using every available towel, sleeping in every bed, and breaking a lamp. There are numerous items missing from the kitchen. Yes, there was a storm that week where wind and waves moved the sand around to expose some rocks on the beach, which was totally out of my control. The sand eventually comes back and covers the rocks again. A storm the previous week sprang the front storm door hinges and it has since been replaced. The renters were told a repairman had been called to come fix it. Garbage pickup day is early Friday mornings, and there will always be some garbage in the cans from the previous week renters for Friday & Saturday that needs to be put out the next Friday morning, just like these renters garbage was in the cans when the next week renters showed up. The only food left in the refrigerator were condiments and salad dressings left by previous renters for others to use, just like I leave spices, coffee filters, paper plates, etc. The yard was mowed that very day and I spend numerous hours every spring and fall mowing, pulling weeds, trimming, fertilizing, mulching, planting flowers, and tending to the garden filled with raspberry bushes, apple trees and rhubarb that I allow the renters to enjoy while there. The house may be old, but it is not run down or musty smelling. When I open the house in the spring, it is cleaned from top to bottom and all repairs are made. The furniture may be old, but it is quite comfortable for use at a beach house where people wear wet suits and track in sand. For them to say the house and yard is neglected is ridiculous. The pictures on my website are a very accurate portrayal of the condition of the house and yard and the house is always immaculately cleaned before and after every renter.

My husband and I really enjoyed our time at the house and was so was so beautiful to look out the bedroom sliding glass doors and see the lake and hear the waves, so would just make you fall asleep at night...we really missed it once we got back home...we are ready to come back already. Looking forward to doing this again next year if not before! Thanks for providing everything we needed!! It was close to everything and got to see alot of neat things like the different falls, glass bottom boat tour, which was amazing to see the shipwrecks under water.

10/25-27/02: This is a great place to stay! You can see the beautiful color of the trees and the lake through the many windows. It was cold & snowy outside, but you are warm and cosy inside.
