Our 2,500 square foot cottage is steps away from one of the most beautiful lakes in New England. Surrounded on all sides by the Green Mountain National Forest and located on 27 acres of private property. Included in the rental is access to your own private dock, canoes, kayaks and a paddle boat. In the winter you can take advantage of the snow whether you want to cross country ski (trails right outside your door) or downhill ski at Killington ski resort (25 minutes by car). There are spectacular views from every window, a gas fireplace, gourmet kitchen and large screened in porch. A bunk room with five extra large built-in bunks makes it perfect for families with children. The master bedroom has a kitchenette for making coffee in the morning or having an after dinner drink before watching a DVD on the large flat screen TV (no satellite or cable). The main level has a large gourmet kitchen, dining area and living room in addition to an office area and another bedroom and bath.
My family has had homes on this land for 100 years. My great grandfather oversaw the building of the dam and was president or the Rutland Railroad Power and Light.
Amy Theorin purchased this house in 1914
We are one of a handful of houses located on the lake. The surrounding land is part of the Green Mountain National Forest and cannot be built on.
“Thank you! You have done everything to perfection. The beautifully landscaped entrance, the welcome package, the to-die-for kitchen, the well-decorated spacious rooms, the screened porch--with a table big enough to fit us all, the views, the games, the DVDs, the foosball table. Our kids had several riotously funny games with that one item.
We will have to come back because we didn't make a dent in trying the games or watching the movies. You have a good selection of both. The legos were a big hit with the junior set and the teenager. Even if it had rained the whole time, we would have been happy. THANK YOU for not having TV. It was nice to hide from the world. My son-in-law needed to work on Friday, so he was pleased to find an office and internet. That plus a cell phone worked perfectly. We also didn't get to try out all the kitchen toys.
All four water craft got extensive usage. I'd never propelled a paddle boat before, but it is fun. I have a bad knee, but I think paddle therapy was good for it. I appreciated the handrails going down to the water. Even some of the youngsters used them on occasion.
I could go on for pages and pages. We felt coddled and cared for and cared about. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.”
Grams and I were invited up in July for one of the two weeks my daughter and son-in-law rented this beautiful property. I have traveled extensively in my career and attended Mich State University for fish and game biology. One morning standing in the middle of the road was the most beautiful black bear I had ever seen, and I have seen many...I was so pleased my 10 year old grand daughter was with me as its an experience few people get! The home is perfect in every way and done with excellent taste in every detail....Hooray!!!!NO TV !!! If you want true wilderness type beauty while being close to civilization this is it....We are coming back next year in July again and we just can't wait....this time I am coming prepared to catch some of those trophy walleyes that call the reservoir "home"
We spent one week at Amy's house on Chittenden Reservoir together with our friends (a party of nine in total). The house is in perfect condition and absolutely well-maintained - clean, tidy and "equipped" with lots of personal atmosphere.
We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen and didn't miss a single kitchen supply (our youngest kids, aged 10, even prepared pancakes themselves). In the evenings, we made use of the incredible amount and variety of board games which are located in the shelves leading to the upper floor.
Amy gave us good directions of how to get to the house and we even found a little welcoming present on arrival (surprise!) - whenever we had a question, Amy would reply instantly. We got great restaurant recommendations (Table 24 had excellent food) and really helpful hints of what to do next to using the lake, of course (horse riding, hiking, frisbee golf, ...).
The location of the house itself is breathtaking - right at the lake and swimming, kayaking, stand-up-paddling, .... are available for you any time of day. And don't miss to go out on the lake on a stary night - you'll never forget that experience (well at least we dind't), the milky way is so close! It's definitely the best house we have ever been and if Germany was a little closer to the US (we are Germans), we would make sure to be there more often.
The house is relatively new, nicely furnished, and well kept. Lovely screen porch. The views are beautiful. We are an active family. The lake is perfect for kayaking and swimming. Big enough for exploratory paddles. Little enough boat traffic to encourage long distance swims. Good roads for cycling- though sufficiently hilly to challenge all but the stronger riders. There are numerous hiking options from the house and other trailheads a short drive away. We found the best food shopping in Brandon.
Booked the property for a long weekend over New Years. Despite the lack of snow & limited trails at Killington & Pico, our group still had a great time up in Vermont. The house was perfect for our group & Amy was very accommodating and great with communication for everything. Especially enjoyed the games room and cooking in the beautiful kitchen.
I booked the Lakeside House in Chittendon for a relaxing getway for my husband's birthday and it was spectacular. We arrived at night after navigating the dark country roads and were greeted by the house all illuminated and warm and cozy inside. When we entered the house my husband and I were simply blown away by how spacious and nicely maintained it is. Even better was waking up in the morning and seeing the amazing view spread out before us through the giant livingroom windows.
This place truly has everything: a full stock of games, movies, kayaks, fireplace and a kitchen to die for. We really enjoyed hiking on the nearby trails and kayaking in the early morning on the resevoir. And, when we needed to get into town, it was an easy drive to fantastic restaurants and grocery stores. Amy, the owner was very responsive; providing us excellent directions and great recommendations for places to eat and things to do. We are looking forward to booking again next year.
Another great vacation at this lake front property! This was our 2nd year renting this house and we loved it even more this year! Last year, I over packed because I didn’t know exactly what to expect. But this year, it was so simple because I knew the house had everything we needed. Not to mention, it’s so peaceful and quiet that you really don’t need anything but a good book or cold beer. Thank you so much Amy! We really hope to come back next year!
