About Sherry Molling

Hi I live in San Diego , Ca. and try to get up to Big Bear Winter and Summer. I am a single mom and bought this in 2004 for my son and daughter to get into Winter games.I love having this cabin to share with renters. Its great location and amenities make it a year round cabin for everyone. I am a dog lover and so am pet friendly knowing how our pets are family and need to come on vacation also! I pride myself on keeping the cabin clean and comfortable!

Sherry Molling purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Sherry Molling chose Big Bear Lake

I purchased this cabin as my friends all had small children and this made it so convenient to get to the resort on foot. The rule is first one awake drives their car to the parking lot loaded with equipment and snacks for the day and parks. That way it makes it even easier to enjoy a full day at the resort in the Winter.

What makes this cabin unique

It is very very private yet close to all. The jacuzzi is such a fantastic way to relax and watch the stars at night while listening to the wind blowing through the pines. The pool table allows the (kids) to entertain themselves. Each room has a TV so no arguing over the remote. The kitchen is full size and stocked with everything making cooking and clean up a breeze. The beds are some of the most comfortable with pillow top mattress for a great nights rest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Can't ask for a better family. In spite of the mishaps they stayed happy , understanding, and positive. Thanks for coming and please come up again

Had a wonderful time with my friends place was clean, everything was ready for us when we arrived no issues at all. Had a good time playing pool and walking around town , very close to the mountain quick walk which made it much more convenient for us. The property was in great shape the backyard was perfect for our dogs to run in and out of the house when they chose. All around great time can't wait to stay again 5 star ! Thank you

Fantastic, Cozy, Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

I sympathize with the owner regarding her Gazebo. She told me it went down in the snow storm and she has called everyone in Big Bear to put it back together and was not finding anyone willing to come out for a few months. It did not change our trip as the Jacuzzi is fine. All of the soaps, tissue and toiletries were there and the previous renter had it all wrong. As an owner myself renters do not understand the difficulties we have when bad renters make messes and throw trash and debris in yard and its covered up by the snow and only comes to light when the snow starts melting. A renter should communicate and let the owner know not write a horrible review. The fact its up for sale means the owner is going to take better care of it. Things happen and communication is the key.

We had a great trip. Owner was very communicative and we would stay here again. Thanks so much for our stay!

San Diego

Very spacious cabin and centrally located.

  • 4 of 5

Pros - The cabin was very nice and had plenty of room. The location is very close to Snow Summit and a quick drive to the Village. It was a plus having a second bathroom downstairs. The fenced in yard was a big bonus since we had our dog with us (but, see below).

The kitchen was well stocked for cooking in. There was a pretty big selection of movies for the dvd player which we took advantage of. The Jacuzzi is a big bonus but we passed on it since the deck only goes close to the back door and we didn't want to walk on the mud area at the entrance since we didn't bring flip flops.

Cons - There are quite a few beds in the cabin but only one extra set of sheets and they are flannel sheets. There are a ton of pillows and comforters but no other sheets which was a little odd. The bed in the master was pretty comfortable but the three beds in the second bedroom were not.

There is a wood gazebo that fell down around the Jacuzzi which appears to have been there awhile. The wood is spread out behind and next to the Jacuzzi as well as in the yard. The side gate to the yard doesn't close because there are pieces of the wood gazebo stacked there. Some of the wood has nails sticking out of it making it dangerous for a dog or children in the yard especially with portions of the wood covered with snow. The fenced in yard is a major plus except when you have to go out to make sure the dog isn't stepping on the wood/nails.

The coffee maker doesn't work very well. It takes about an hour to brew a pot of coffee which isn't convenient when you want to get out to the slopes. It's an easy and cheap fix but made for a few laughs.

I realize I focused on a few negative items but the cabin is very nice and spacious but needs a little attention to make it perfect. We had a very nice time.

I realize the cabin is for sale since there is a sign in the front yard but these items should be taken care of.

In the rental agreement the owner states on almost every line that a fee will be charged if something on the list isn't completed. I don't think this is fair when the renter does their part and there is a broken gazebo with wood and nails sticking out throughout the advertised "fenced in yard" and the coffee pot doesn't even work. In the owners defense, she told me about the gazebo lying in the yard but that was when we called her from inside the cabin per the instructions.

Fixed up, this cabin would be absolutely perfect.

Owner's Response: Hi as I said I am removing the Gazebo as it came down due to the storm a few weeks ago. Finding some one to fix it or remove it has been incredibly difficult. First time I heard of the coffee pot issue. So now I can address that. Unfortunately when I put extra sheets out they were stolen again and again and so now we just put out the extra set and if anyone needs more they communicate by calling me. Thanks for coming.

Rental Went Down Hill Recently

  • 2 of 5

This was the third time we rented this cabin. The first two times were great (cozy cabin, pool table, hot tub, close to slopes), but since then the quality of the cabin went down hill. When we arrived, we found broken glass and trash outside, dog crap outside (and inside!), and a lot of the amenities (hand soap, paper towels) weren't refilled/restocked. The roof of the hot tub laid strewn across the backyard with nails sticking out of the wood. From the flyers we found inside the cabin, it seems that the owner is looking to sell the property so upkeep isn't much of a priority anymore.

Owner's Response: Due to the huge storm my Gazebo broke and was moved to a safe area out of the way until I can get a co. to repair. I let these renters know that. My cabin is always stocked with everything needed for a stay and I disagree with them. When the snow starts melting is when we find previous renters have left garbage in the yard and its impossible to discover when we have 5 feet of snow. Then housekeeping is able to clean it up. Just because I am selling the cabin does not mean its gone downhill at all and still continue to have happy renters.

Cozy but roomy, perfect location, WALK to Snow Summit Resort THANK YOU SHERRY!

  • 5 of 5

Rent this. The downstairs is open and keeps the entire family "together" during pool games, football games, twister, movies, and meal preparation! There is wifi and a nice DVD movie selection, cable TV, washer/dryer and plenty of towels. The yard is truly fully fenced and pet friendly, with a jacuzzi (we did not try using the jacuzzi) and a deck with chairs. Homeowner very responsive to questions with answers and guidance. Homeowner's requests and house rules very reasonable. Sleeping accommodations terrific. Upstairs takes time to warm up, so EXPECT THAT, but it's not a big problem, turn up the heat when you walk in, there are plenty of extra comforters and blankets in both bedroom closets. You can WALK to snow summit. It's about two city blocks distance to the parking lot. If you have little ones and big ones, it's easy for Adults, older kids, to come and go to the ski resort and the house as they please. The 7-eleven is very close, ski rentals too, 7-eleven carries firewood (bring your own) and most things you need for a quick something in kitchen or other supplies. Groceries and Kmart very nearby (4 min. by car). The property has all the snow shovels you will need to clear your deck and around your car. Remember, you need tire chains to come up the mtn. in the snow (ice). You can order those online and make sure you have tensors for your chains/cables, gloves, plastic to put on ground, a long sleeve jacket or something to protect your clothing. TIP: I have a "back scratcher" that helps me "grab" the wire on the under car side of the tire. There are online movies to show you how to do it. I recommend watching those movies. There are 3 routes into Big Bear. Traffic is heavy getting up there, it can add unexpected drive time (2 hrs 4 us). Snow Summit has skiing for beginners on up, lockers to rent, equipment rentals, lessons, food, and another thing I'm grateful for...bathrooms at the top of chair 2. There is also a tubing park - Grizzly park - there at Snow Summit, we did not use it, so I can't review it, but good to know for little ones. Downtown Big Bear very close by. The Marina very close by.

This home is home away from home and user friendly. It's not so perfect that you are worried about the house which makes relaxing a little tough, and maintained and cared about enough to feel clean, safe, comfortable, roomy and fun. It's your friends home, and other people use it too. So come ready to live there like that. Not a hotel.
