Beach cottage at milepost 5.5 in KDH. The cottage is ground level, with only one step into the front door. 225 yard walk to the beach (on a sidewalk) with direct beach access from our street. A lifeguard stand is located right at this beach access for peace of mind when swimming! The beach is typically less crowded as there is no public parking or hotel close by. The outside shower with changing room is a new addition in 2022. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The laundry room has both a washer and dryer (dryer new in 2022). There is also plenty of clothesline if you prefer to have the ocean breeze do the drying. We travel to the cottage ourselves between each renter to ensure that you arrive to find it clean and ready for your vacation. We do not charge a cleaning fee. All fees listed in your booking go 100% to VRBO.

Perfect beach house

This house is perfectly located. Has plenty of space and exactly what you need for a beach trip. Just beware of sand spurs.

Perfect location - great layout !

The rooms and bathrooms are laid out perfectly for a large family or group. Very efficient use of space. Loved the dining table that seats 10 and the outdoor shower was wonderful.

Perfect house perfect location

We loved everything about this home. Had plenty of space to accommodate our family. Very short walk to the beach! Coffee shop right down the street. The outside shower is great and was used quite often! Nice short vacation.

Excellent Spot

The house was lovely, a quick walk to the beach, and easily accommodated 8 of us. The amenities were exactly as advertised, and the owner communicated very well and was extremely responsive with any questions we had. Ideal house for those looking to avoid steps/stairs. Great vacay!

Best place in kitty hawk

Home was awesome! Loved the openness between kitchen, dining and living room! Plenty of space for family! Having a laundry room and outdoor shower was great! Great and fast communication with owner! So close to the beach! I would highly recommend this home to anyone traveling to the outer banks for a family vacation! Very enjoyable family time

Back in time

TV/Cable only worked on the weekend. For the money should have access to the dryer. Hanging clothes outside is 1960's.

** Update 2022 - laundry room remodel with dryer added. New outside shower with changing room in backyard. ** I responded immediately when you reached out for help with the cable, giving instruction on how to troubleshoot. I sent 3 messages asking if it was working again, and you never once replied back to me to let me know. After your departure, I found the problem was that you had pushed the "Input Source" button on the remote, causing the issue. The fact that there is no dryer, only clothesline, is in the cottage description, so that should not have been a surprise. Thank you for the 5 stars. We clean and wash the mattress pads/pillow protectors, ourselves, between each renter, so the house is exactly as it is advertised and very clean.

Would definitely stay here again!

Perfect place for our extended family to gather! We needed a flat entry due to a family member in a wheelchair and this place was perfect for that. Things we loved: Walking distance to the beach AND a coffee shop! TOTAL SCORE!, Openness of the main living areas and the screened in porch was so nice., The outdoor shower with hot water came in handy for all the kids who rolled around in the sand, Cable TV was great so we didn't miss the hockey playoffs!, Two bathrooms were nice with such a big family and one was able to get a wheelchair through. Spacious Kitchen area, comfortable beds, and not so busy beaches really made our stay wonderful. Only a few negatives, must bring all the sheets, pillow cases, towels and washcloths for your stay, and would recommend bringing slippers as the floors seemed like they needed a good deep clean. The checkout list on the fridge was extensive stating to clean the bathrooms, vacuum the whole unit, wipe down fridge, counters, inside microwave, etc. We overlooked these things due to all the other positives but wanted to include for an authentic review. We would certainly stay here again as its right in the middle of everything there is to do in Kill Devil Hills. Our family had a great time of connecting here!

I am glad you enjoyed your stay! We do mop the entire house between each renter and it takes about an hour, as the house is all tile. The floor gets dirty quickly with people walking around in shoes and a wheelchair would add to bringing in dirt. I actually don't understand why facts clearly stated in the description are reviewed as a negative such as bringing your own sheets and leaving the house clean as you found it. If that does not suit you, then you should choose another cottage to rent. We do not charge a cleaning fee to keep costs down. Every fee listed on your reservation goes to VRBO. We simply expect you to clean up behind yourself. We check behind every renter and take care of anything that might have been missed, so the house was 100% clean when you arrived.

Short walk to the beach and the amenities we needed!

We were looking for a place that was both dog friendly and had minimal steps to accommodate elderly guests. This was one of the few places that ticked both of those boxes, and as a huge bonus, it was a block and a half from the beach! There were two short steps to get into the house: one to get into the porch and one to get into the house proper, but both of those were easy to navigate. Inside, the walk-in shower made it easier as well. There weren't grab bars, but the lack of stairs was enough for us. The dining table was spacious and could accommodate a group of 10 (more if you squeeze), for meals or games. The screened-in porch was a great place for hanging out with a large picnic table with benches and a few Adirondack chairs for relaxation. There was a nice outdoor shower out back, along with a hose there to wash off and try to keep sand to a minimum. The kitchen had all the plates, cutlery, and utensils, and provided dish soap and sponges to get it all clean. The neighborhood was easily walkable, and we walked our dogs to both the beach and the sound side to get them exercise. There was a good coffeeshop+wine cellar up the block.

Fun in the sun

My sons and nephews had a blast in Kill Devil Hills and said the cottage was everything they needed. There was plenty of room for them with great beach access, and cottage was well equipped and clean. Highly recommend!
