Spring is near! Why not start the season out with a mini-vacay at Sunshine House 2.0 WEEKDAYS (Mon-Thurs) in April or May for a very special rate (3 night minimum)? Check the online calendar for available dates and book today!!

Rebuilding a new Sunshine House took most of last year, and we've tried to replace our adorable cottage with a larger, modernized version for your vacation pleasure. We've kept the colorful and fun tropical theme throughout this beautiful waterfront, family and pet-friendly respite. The property is situated on two acres with 240 feet of beautiful waterfront on the private (warm) side of Lake Anna! Launch your boat from the private community boat launch with our key card entry, then tie up to the private dock located on the property.

Enjoy waking up to a dramatic sunrise to start your day. Each bedroom has an exit directly onto the expansive deck so you can enjoy the herons, eagles, geese, and maybe our new local white duck we've dubbed "Quackers". You can play all day on the water or do nothing but relax and soak up some rays. Once the sun goes down enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature as they lull you to sleep or build a campfire in the firepit area located down by the water and roast marshmallows for s'mores.

This side of the lake is much sought after for it's warm water temperature between April and November. The water is clear with a sandy bottom great for swimming. Enjoy excellent skiing and tubing. During peak summer holidays this side of the lake is less congested with calmer waters than the public (or "cold") side. It never freezes so fishing is possible year round. Bring your boat, jetskis, fishing poles, and suntan lotion to this one of a kind getaway! If you plan to bring a pet with you, please include that information in your inquiry.

The private side of Lake Anna encompasses 3 large 'cooling lakes' connected by channels. Our home is in the first cooling lake (the warmest). The water on the private side ranges from 5-14 degrees warmer than the public side of Lake Anna. In mid-summer, we recommend vacationers bring a boat to explore the various parts of the private side which become cooler as the current moves through the channels. .

About Shelia Fitzgerald

Married with children, in-laws, grandchildren, and life-long friends; we love water; travel, space, history (especially the rich Civil War history surrounding the area). Having personally experienced the joy of vacationing at personally owned properties through VRBO, we happily share our special place with visitors.

Shelia Fitzgerald purchased this house in 1993

Why Shelia Fitzgerald chose Aspen Hill

We love Lake Anna! Originally frequent campers, we decided a house would be a bit more comfy. Our original Sunshine House was a small cottage that we and many vacationers enjoyed. It burned Aug 2016, so now we present Sunshine House 2.0 to share with you. It provides a perfect getaway for us. We've decorated it with vacation in mind. The colorful decor reflects our love of island travels and peaceful water. It is our happy family place, respite from the rat race, and opportunity to take time to appreciate nature and quiet beauty.

What makes this house unique

The warm water lets us begin playing in the water as early as April and as late as November. We have awesome mysterious foggy sunrises when the air gets cooler, and beautiful sunrises and moonrises. Stars are bright and clear in the night sky. Perched on a little hill, the lake view from our deck is like an infinity pool since we can see over the dike into the public side. The neighborhood represents original weekend getaways; when a 'lake house' was a play house. Visitors should LISTEN to the sounds of early morning at the lake; you will fall in love with it.

Fantastic rental!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a very relaxing, peaceful long weekend in this home. It is a new home, super clean and may be the most well outfitted home we have ever rented... top quality appliances, comfortable Sleep Number beds in two of the bedrooms, high quality linens, even an X-box to play if you desired. There was nothing that we needed that wasn’t readily available.

The property was quiet and tranquil with beautiful views of the lake from the deck, family room and bedrooms. A grocery store and a few restaurants were a quick 7-10 minute drive from the home. We are hoping to return to Lake Anna during the warmer months to take advantage of the lake and water activities and would not hesitate to rent this home again! Thank you for a fantastic weekend!

Beautiful view and undeniable charm!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful weekend at the Sunshine Home 2.0! We loved all aspects of this home, from the updated kitchen and bathroom, comfortable beds, to our nightly bonfires! Our children, aged 2, 9, and 14 appreciated the flat screen TV’s in every room :-D

Our 1 year old Greater Swiss Mountain dog enjoyed the property the most running and playing in the spacious backyard! We would high recommend this property!

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

Very pleasant stay, except for the WiFi going out, provider was having a problem with their DNS server. The house is very comfortable and well maintained. Did have a problem getting back and forth to the boat dock, 3 of us are over 70 and are not the steadiest on our feet, the photo of the property does not show how steep the grade is going down to the dock. We had no problems going down but coming back up to the house was very difficult for us. All in all we all loved the house and would recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful views and quiet tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Sunshine House! Even though it is winter and too cold to play in the water we came for the views and relaxation. The cold mornings produced mist over the lake both days that was absolutely gorgeous! We would love to come back in the summer and swim in the lake :).
