Mas Saint Antoine is situated between the picturesque village of Cotignac and the waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade. The house has a lovely pool and its own olive grove, and is secluded - yet only a three minute drive from the village with its restaurants, weekly market and boulangerie. Outdoors, there are large tree-shaded terraces for outdoor dining, with far reaching views across the Provencal vineyards and the hills beyond. Indoors, the old part of the house has retained traditional features such as terracotta floor tiles and log stoves, while the newer wing is light and airy. Downstairs, there is a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, a cosy sitting room, a spacious bathroom with shower and roll-top bath, plus an additional small shower room. Past the kitchen, you find a double bedroom on the mezzanine level and a double sofa bed downstairs in the new wing. In the original house, there are two upstairs bedrooms: one a large double bedroom with high ceilings and beautiful views, and one a twin room most suitable for children. Because of the way the bedrooms are laid out, the house is best suited to family groups. Mas Saint Antoine has been chosen as an Alastair Sawday special place to stay. More photos and information available on our website http://massaintantoine.net

Both the dining area and the downstairs mezzanine bedroom open straight onto the terraces, where there is a large dining table seating 8. The pool overlooks the long olive grove, and has a lovely decked area with loungers and deck chairs for soaking up the warm sun. An old mulberry tree provides the terraces plenty of natural shade, and the hammock slung between the cherry trees is the perfect place for an afternoon doze.

The local village of Cotignac is a 'Village de Caractère’ known for its stone cave dwellings in the cliff. Cotignac has a supermarket and three bakeries to choose from, as well as many good restaurants and a weekly market. Within a short drive are also the villages of Entrecasteaux, known for its imposing castle and Carcès, which has a pretty boating lake. The very lovely Abbaye du Thoronet, true jewel of Romanesque art is also nearby. Sainte-Croix lake and the beautiful Gorges du Verdon are only 45 minutes away.

Why Katy and Tom Ansorg chose Cotignac

We have been looking for the right property for many years, but I think it was the view that drew us to Mas Saint Antoine! Between olives and vines, it really is beautiful whichever way you look. And, although it is in the midst of stunning scenery, the very friendly local community in Cotignac, and its lovely cafes and bakeries, are just a short drive away.

What makes this house unique

There are lovely country walks directly from the house, and great hiking in the surrounding hills. The waterfalls of Sillans la Cascade provide natural swimming pools. The hills and villages of the Haute Var retain their character and atmosphere all year round, and the sunny weather makes it perfect for exploring. Cotignac is particularly beautiful in the Spring, when the flowers are out in the hedgerows and fields. The beaches of the French Riveria are about an hour away.

Charming, restful holiday house

  • 5 of 5

The house was welcoming, with very good facilities. The kitchen and bathroom seemed newly refurbished. The surroundings are beautiful. The property has a substantial olive grove beyond the swimming pool. There are hammocks, one under a mature mulberry tree. It is a lovely place to be relaxed, with the vineyard just beyond the boundary, woodland to wander through, amazing butterflies at the time we were there, fruit trees and space for boules as you approach the house, and space to eat outside for every meal if the weather is as kind as it was for us. It is possible to walk into Cotignac, though the way back is uphill. There is a main road by which you access the property and that can be heard when the cicadas are having their lunch. We did not find it noticeable once we were settled. For a real experience of rural Provence with comfort and atmosphere it is hard to beat. Visit the cascades at Sillans and Entrecasteaux, wander round Cotignac and its markets. There is much to explore.

Amazing restful stay in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week staying in this lovely spacious house surrounded by olive groves and vineyard. The pool was a win - couldn't keep the kids out of it! The local area had lots to offer, Cotignac village for leisurely lunches, cafes and a spot of sightseeing at the caves. The house is well equipped and the bedrooms a good size. The outdoor eating area was lovely in the evening. Already booked for a return visit in 2019!

Beautiful place (apart from the road)

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely house situated next to a picturesque vineyard. The surrounding area is beautiful and offers lots to do, from wine-tasting at the many vineyards to cycling down the quiet lanes surrounding Cotingnac. The house was as described, and it didn’t disappoint. Well decorated, cosy, with a beautiful pool. The only big problem for us was that the house is situated next to a fast (and loud) road, which can clearly be heard from both inside the house and particularly the garden/pool area. We think we were unlucky and that our week coincided with a local motorbike gathering of some sort, and so the noise was especially bad. We actually ended up leaving a few days early due to the noise. As I said, other than the road, it’s a beautiful place for a holiday.

Lovely cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this lovely property. Lovely views over a vineyard and orchard, perfect for relaxing on a warm evening . During the day you can wander into Cotignac for a coffee and walk along one of the tracks out the other side of Cotignac and swim in natural pools under waterfalls - it doesn't get much better than that!

Real Provence experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay. The house is well equipped. We enjoyed cooking with local produce. The house is very close to Cotignac - beautiful city to stroll around with variety of interesting shops, restaurants & great market on Tuesday! We walked from the house to Cotignac & it was a very pleasant walk, great views & nature!
