Wonderful and peaceful place to stay.
Overall the cleanest and most comfortable place we stayed during out two week trip to England and Scotland! This place was what I would have designed if I were putting together my perfect getaway in Scotland. Be advised though that it is quite remote and getting there from the traditional highlands routes involves a fair amount of driving over some very narrow and winding (but extremely beautiful) roads. This place is best suited for a several day getaway, not a quick overnight stop.
I look forward to returning when I have more time time to really enjoy it.

Dear Paul and family,
It is good to see that you are home safe and well. Thank you so much for your review. You think Texas is big ......how about our little Scotland. Yes, Melfort is an ideal touring base, so next time ....or tell your friends about us,
We are looking forward to welcome you all back. We hope you get no hurricane .
Stay safe,
Mary & Hazel
Firstly, I defy anyone not to fall in love with this location. Melfort Harbour and Pier is so beautiful and the location is quiet and tranquil. We swam in the sea every day and crabbed from the pier. On our arrival, we were given freshly-caught mackerel
by someone fishing on the pier - truly magical. The accommodation itself has everything you need and is spacious. The only negatives are: the dampness of the downstairs bedrooms; the beds and sofa weren't particularly comfortable (but this is only a personal opinion); many of the kitchen utensils and trays were dirty and needed to be cleaned before use (and I'm not someone who is very pedantic about cleanliness)!; Finally, this is probably the only property on the small development which does not have an unobscured view of the sea - despite its proximity to the water - which makes you feel envious of your neighbours! All that said, we fell totally in love with the location which is beyond compare. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for the review ,the couple of spots of mildew have been removed. if The tray was so dirty ,you should have come to the office, we are here 7 days a week .Could you please ,tell us, where all the cups and soap dishes went out of the 4 bath room ?
We never had a complain about the view from the house, may be from the garden ,but those hedges are there to give you and the failmy pets privacy.
We hope you had a safe trip home. With Kind Regards, Mary

very outdated for the pricy rate; a duplex rather than a house as advertised; half of it is basement
Very disappointed when entered the property. First of all, the description and the photos are very misleading which is used for many other duplex in the holiday rental estate, the beach is not private (shared by all other holiday rentals) nor near the property. Also It is NOT a house as described and advertised. It is a duplex shared with 2 other separate entrances in a house, an office at the front for all the rental properties within the estate and another apartment upstairs. The duplex itself is very small, the interior is very outdated 80' style. Most of all, the downstairs is a basement with tiny widow on the very top which is not listed or mentioned in the description. We wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you wish to pay for a house but a duplex in reality and half of which is in a basement.

Dear Hailing ,
As we advertise, we have Scandinavian houses, as we are in the Highlands of Scotland.
One of their way of building to be green is to build below the ground...warm in the winter and cool in the summer . It is not a basement ... but two very spacious bed rooms, both with full bath rooms en suite , one even with a spa bath ,and there is a sauna ......upstairs you have a third bed room with a full bath room en suite . The there is an other toilet , brand new white kitchen .Large leather white furniture , 3 TV's , dinning area and a large garden. 20 steps from the beach !!!!! We have two private beaches ,just of our guests. They are NOT public beaches. After you told our office staff you were unhappy , you were moved to Boat House East .
At Melfort Pier & Harbour ,we do our best to make every one happy .We have been here 26 years, and we get 6000 guests a year. Every one has a different taste, but you can give us
some more information what your decoration idea's are ..we are always open for our guests advise .
As you know our office is open 7 days a week, to make every guest a happy guest .
Thank you for taking your time to write your review .
Best wishes, Mary & Hazel .

Perfect stay for our family of 4! Plenty of space and all the amenities.
Peaceful, beautiful location.
The sauna was luxurious after swimming!!
Highly recommend!
Location was beautiful , although i did think it was the whole house for rent but its not
We arrived 11.45pm so a long drive for us , i had arranged this prior with Hazel she . It was a nice easy process . Kids were all excited . The following morning the views were beautiful 😍 we have young 1 yr old shepherd and grumpy shepherd X which is not very socialable with other dogs . So the upstairs of the house is rented separately and the garden is shared . There are a few other properties neighbouring so beach is shared only with guest thats staying at Melfort Harbour . Easy access to the beach we took our kayaks which was perfect . The local post office didnt open till 10am and we had no coffee . I need my coffee in the morning so my husband went to the office which is attached also to the back of the house and hazel kindly donated some. Hazel is lovely she is there to please and make your stay comfortable and issues im sure she would try her best to help . All the bedrooms are a nice size as are the bathrooms . Our 2 daughters and there Aunt loved the sauna after being out on the sea . Property is a lovely size as is thr garden . We ate out at one of the local hotels which and was welcomed , the food was home cooked and lovely. Oban its self is half hour drive we headed there tondo a food shop and walked around the harbour to find the local sea food stall which i myself was in my elliment stopped on the return home to take some with us. Last minute arranging my sister in law lives in Stirling so she and her partner headed over in there vw and was aloud to stay in there next to the house. There is cark park next to the property with 1 parking bay right next to the house. We thought this was lovely that they was aloud to do this also. Overall the property was clean , soacious, with beautiful views , and lovely service. Thank you for our stay 🙏
We stayed in the Captains Quarters for the weekend. We absolutely loved the location with its beautiful scenery.
We will definitely be going back.

Booking was easy, and queries I sent on before our visit were answered fully and promptly. Property is unusual as 2 double bedrooms are really lower ground. But the kitchen/diner/lounge area is lovely and well equipped, although the kitchen is a bit dated. However the views from the kitchen/lounge are incredible. The property's position is brilliant. We loved our holiday and the weather was fabulous as well.

It was a pleasure meeting and hosting Julie and I do hope we see you again at Melfort Pier & Harbour....
We rented the Captains Quarters for a week. The accomodation was spacious and airy on the upper floor which is made up of an open open plan kitchen, dining and living area along with a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Downstairs were a further two bedrooms (one double and one twin), both with ensuite bathrooms with bath/showers. The sauna is located downstairs too and is accessed via both bathrooms.
As the downstairs area is below ground level, it did feel a little dark and damp in that area although there were no signs of actual damp within the property.
It is worth noting this accomodation is adjoining the reception and has another accomodation (called The Crows Nest) above.
Location wise, it is around 30 minutes drive from Oban and Lochgilphead where you will find supermarkets, pharmacies etc. There is a small shop on the main road just before you turn into the site which stocks the basics.
Fishing is allowed in the loch from the jetty which is just a minutes walk away. Plenty of mackerel were being caught whilst we were there.
We were lucky enough to see what looked to be a family of 3 Otters swimming in the loch just out from the jetty, which was a lovely first sighting for us.
Overall, a good base to see the beautiful views and nature that this part of Scotland has to offer.

Great location
Great location, rooms require some TLC and based on our experience only, customer care skills required from management.
Had a lovely break, the host was very helpful.
The 2 bedrooms downstairs very cold making the bedding and clothing damp, had to put on fan heater to try to keep the damp at bay. Still have to wash clothes when I got home smelling damp.
Accommodation had everthing you needed, Wifi did not work vety good only got it in 1 room but still poor, host was trying to get it sorted.
Lovely location near enough to Oban

Overall the property was in good repair. Don’t really know what they mean by ‘gourmet kitchen’. Hob and oven could do with an upgrade. Mostly small things and apart from that the house was functional and we enjoyed our stay. The scenery around Melfort pier is stunning.

Arrived with clear direction & instructions to find a well appointed & located accommodation with excellent views over Loch & hillside.
Amazed by the amount of wonderful birdsong.
Following a well earned sauna & rest, rapidly ticked off 18 bird species. An early morning visit to the pier was rewarded with a dog otter sighting.

Beautiful Family Holiday Memories
We booked a last minute holiday - the weekend right before school started - with the idea of just getting a way from it all and taking some time to come together as a family before the madness of school began. We had an excellent time at Melfort Pier. The house was lovely and had all we needed. The surrounding area is beautiful to behold and gave rise to impromptu walks and some time by the water. Plus, the location is close to Oban so we were able to go into town and do a bit of touristy sight-seeing.
It was a short break and would have loved to stay longer. Hazel and her crew were very approachable and interactive, which gave us an even higher level of comfort in the accommodations. I would totally recommend Melfort Pier to others and would definitely come and stay again.

Why they chose this property
Because we care .We live in one of the most peaceful area's in the World. Come and judge yourself and let us know . You can still have an old fashion holiday here, where the kids play safely outside and get lots of fresh air. Also, because of the upstairs bedroom, this is a great three generation house. Plenty of parking, up to three cars.
What makes this property unique
Fresh air and tranquillity. Come and feel the Magic right on the shores of Loch Melfort a sea Loch of the Atlantic Ocean. Bring your boat, we have a private harbour and moorings. Or your paddleboard or blow up dingy, fishing rods. In the summer there is a lot of mackerel here to catch. Go for the day to Mull, Oban, Ft. William, there is so much to do in this area. Or just relax at the waterside. Give it a try, we would love to welcome you.
