About the property

This spacious 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath home is across from the 27 hole public golf course at Bear Trap and is a short drive to the beachs of Bethany, Ocean City, or Fenwick. Similar homes closer to the beach rent for at least twice as much. This is a family friendly house with wireless internet, a formal living room (gathering room) as well as a separate GAMEROOM with FULL SIZE PING PONG TABLE, Deluxe FOOSBALL table, Widescreen TV/DVD, and GAME/POKER table. There is a large deck with bar seating and overlooking the community pond..The community swimming pool (free to our guests) is just steps away. There is a large gourmet kitchen with double oven & ice maker frig. The formal dining room seats 14 comfortably. Three bedrooms have flat screen TV/DVD. All bedding is top quality. This spacious home accommodates more than one family. Bring family or friends and enjoy gracious luxury at an affordable rate. A great place for family or friends groups to share good times and make great memories.

Golf is available across the road: The home is directly across the road from the entrance to the beautiful 27 hole public championship golf course at Bear Trap Dunes. In the summer special events are held in the Bear Trap Dunes Community and are open to the public. There is a fine dining restaurant at the Clubhouse.

Several other golf courses are in the Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach / Ocean City area.

Beautiful Delaware State Beaches are nearby: The house is only a short drive from the Delaware State Seashore Parks. There parks have beautiful beaches that are guarded and have restroom and refreshment facilities. There is one park just north of Bethany, and another just to the south at Fenwick Island. Both of these are about a 15 - 20 minute drive from the house.

Ocean City, Maryland is also a short drive away , about 20 minutes to the south. Ocean City is the ultimate in boardwalk entertainment , restaurants, and mini golf as well as souvenir shopping.

Tax free outlet shopping is also only a short drive away in Rehoboth, about a 25 minute drive to the north. Rehoboth also has great beaches, boardwalk, shopping and lots and lots of all kinds of restaurants. Also in Rehototh there is an amazing cinema complex for your enjoyment in the evenings or on rainy days when the beach might not be a good place to be.

Great for Family Reunions & Golf Getaways!!: The house has 3000 sq. feet of luxury. It is spacious and accommodates 14 people with more than adequate room for all. There is comfortable seating in the living room, and in the large family/game room.

The formal dining room seats 14 comfortably. The table is banquet size.

The kitchen is equipped for either casual or gourmet cooking-- double oven, cooktop island, ice maker refrigerator, and lots of space.

There are 3.5 baths and 4 TV/DVD, (3 in bedrooms), widescreen, in the family room

There is a large deck overlooking a picturesque pond, and a swimming pool only a short walk from the deck.

While in the Bethany Beach area you may want to enjoy some evening concerts on the boardwalk or stroll down the main street to shop, browse in the candy kitchen or pick up some fast BOARDWALK FOOD or some fine dining. If you like Italian, you have 2 great choices, for fine dining De Fibo's Restaurant is the ultimate or for fast food and arcade fun for the children you might like the less formal atmosphere of Grotto Pizza, which is sit down and serves all kinds of Italian dishes. A fun atmosphere with great food.

When you check into the house you will find a map of local attractions and there is something for everybody. from fishing, events at the Delaware state parks, boardwalk attractions, restaurants and cafes.

The Den at Beartrap Dunes is just across the road from our house and has an excellent menu of delicious food.

Another recommendation is The Cottage Restaurant in Ocean View. They have nightly specials which are very popular. The atmosphere is great, the food is super delicious and the prices are reasonable, (and the service is great).

Bethany Beach is a perfect destination for your family or your group of friends. There is so much to do but of course the beach and water sports would certainly be the main attraction. It is close to Ocean City with all its nightlife and activity but is a quiet retreat from that hustle and bustle when you return home for a restful sleep before your activities of the next day of fun.

About Barbara

My husband Gerry and I bought the house in 2005 as a family retreat mostly in the off season. Our family consists of 3 married children and four grandchildren and we enjoy going to Ocean View for family gatherings because the house is so spacious and the grandchildren enjoy the games in the gameroom and of course the pool when we are there in season. It is a restful retreat for us and in the evening we enjoy the large deck off the kitchen and overlooking the community pool with fountain. It is a great place to have fun and relax.

Why Barbara chose Wedgefield

As I mentioned above I think this property is a great place 32or large groups to come together....5 bedrooms,,,,,3 1/2 baths and a gameroom with ping pong, foosball and game table,,great for card players.

Our family has always enjoyed being near the beach. We feel refreshed and envigorated after a stay at the beach.

What makes this house unique

I think the fact that our house backs to the community pond and is just a short distance from the community swimming pool makes our house a special place. The large deck overlooks the community pond with fountain and it is so relaxing to sit on the deck and look out over the pond. The gameroom is also a special attraction. There is ping pong (full size), foosball, a game table for playing cards, and lots of board games. This room is separate from the living room or gathering place for those who want to be less active. We are not too far from the beach (2 1/2 miles) and the neighborhood is quiet and residential, away from the noise of the beach and boardwalk. Similar houses right on the beach would rent for about three times what our house rents for.

Beautiful Accomodations - PERFECT for Families!

  • 5 of 5

Love, love, LOVE! Comfortable, clean, and spacious home for families. Last summer was our 3rd stay at this home, and I’m renting again now for this summer – actually the fall too.

I’ve rented or stayed in rentals at Bethany Beach for over 30 years, and this is the BEST one yet! Bethany was an annual family vacation for my family when I was a kid; and now that I’m married with children of my own, I’ve continued the tradition. Bethany Beach is a very family friendly beach; AND this beautiful home is very family friendly as well! Clean, equipped, comfy, and large enough for groups.

Last summer, we included my family (my siblings and their kids and my parents) to celebrate my nephew’s graduation. The house fit all 11 of us very comfortably. The eat-in kitchen is great – fully-equipped and nice and open with plenty of space to make cooking for and around a large group easier. LOVED the huge dining room table! Though we fit everyone around the table easily for breakfast and lunch, the kids ate in the kitchen and the grown-ups ate a MUCH quieter dinner in the dining room ;)

The house is large enough that adults can have their space while the kids safely entertain themselves elsewhere.

The family room is also very open – great place for kids (and adults!) to play. Some of us played in a ping-pong “tournament” (I won!), while others watched a movie, and my parents watched the sunset over the pond from the deck. After the kids went to bed, the adults played cards (I won again!!)

We all enjoyed the pool as well which is in walking distance of the house. It was nice to have that option too.

Looking forward to our return this year!!

So disappointing

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at this location with our good friends this past June. We have stayed in other home rentals before and we were so disappointed with how deceiving the pictures were. The house was dirty. Crumbs on the counters and cabinets, dishwasher was dirty, walls had handprints, smudges, dust clogging the vents, minimal larger bowls and plates, broken knives melted serving ware, dirty rugs. There were boogers on our bedroom walls and on the ledge of one of the master bathrooms the dust was about a half an inch thick! Beds were absolutely horrible to sleep on. Mattresses were rock hard. Barely any furniture on the deck for us to sit on...the pictures showed a full deck set up and there were only chairs. The property manager was extremely accommodating. But the truth is this unit needs updating, it needs new kitchen supplies. The couches were extremely uncomfortable. New rugs and a fresh coat of paint is desperately in need, especially for what we paid. The size of the unit, location and development were wonderful but the owner desperately needs to do work to the inside.

Owner's Response: This review is BOGUS! No one by the name submitted on this review rented the house for the week of June 20 or at any other time! The statements made by the person submitting this review are totally false and not founded in reality and I have no knowledge of who this person is because He/she never rented this property. To refute the statements made in this review I can only say that we hire professional cleaners at the beginning of the season and during the rental season and with the exception of this review we have had no complaints about the cleanliness of the property and on the contrary our renters have said that they have found the house to be clean and well appointed. The house is well maintained. We have a professional property manager and each season we put in improvements. For instance for this season we replaced the air conditioning unit, bought new chairs for the deck, and replaced the foosball table with a new and larger model. We also put new tile in the master bathroom shower and we also provided many new ping pong paddles to last through the wear and tear of a rental season. ALL BEDS have high quality mattresses and there are lots of spare pillows. The furniture throughout the house is also of high quality and appropriate for large rental groups (of up to 15). It appears that my site has been hijacked by some unknown person and for some unknown reason!

Our favorite family beach rental - EVER!

  • 5 of 5

Bethany is our family's favorite beach, and this house is our favorite to rent!

The house is very cozy, comfortable, and attractively furnished. It feels like home. It has plenty of room for multiple-families - without feeling too crowded. ;) With relatives in NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, and VA, it is a GREAT central location to gather! In fact, we've rented for at least 5 family reunions over the past several years. The kitchen and family room are awesome for fun and "bonding"! We've held several family ping-pong tournaments there already. (Sadly for my brothers, I'm the reigning champ!)

We have also enjoyed dolphin watching in the morning down at the beach, shopping at the nearby outlets, walking in the lovely neighborhood (nicest neighbors too!), and visiting STARBUCKS at GIANT FOOD, only a minute away by car (about 15 minute walk).

Additionally, it's been our experience that the owners are very responsive and gracious people!

This year, I've decided to rent four times - once a season. At least two visits will include extended family, one will be a getaway with my husband (sans kids!), and one will be a getaway by myself - alone to meditate and recharge! Look out, Bethany, here we come!!!!

Renter Beware

  • 1 of 5

When we arrived at this home on our first day the right garage door was badly damaged. We also noted that the siding in the back was melted from a gas grill as well as some other minor wear and tear items in the home. Figuring that the owners just didn't keep up with these repairs during the rental season, we didn't think to report it. During our week staty, my husband and I lost 1 full day and a few hours of another day waiting for air conditioning repair people to correct an ongoing problem that was to have been fixed prior to our arrival. The property manager couldn't be there and we didn't want to allow the repair crew access to the house and our belongings so we stayed behind while the rest of our family went to the beach. Two weeks after our return home, I received a bill for the garage door damage. We had nothing to do with the damage. It could have been anyone that had been to the home doing repair work, but I guess having our cash in hand made us the easy ones to blame. While visiting relatives in October we drove by this home and the garage door still had not been replaced (I am wondering what became of my security deposit). If you do rent this property, be sure to document everything upon your arrival or better yet have the property manager meet you there to inspect the premises.

Owner's Response: wner Response #5796401 "Renter Beware" In the seven years that we have been renting the house we have never had to withhold a security deposit for any reason until our garage door was damaged this past summer. We expect normal wear and tear form rental groups and we address minor problems through our property manager and his professional staff. Every Saturday between renters he makes an inspection and sends us a written report. When his July 21 rental report indicated that one of the garage doors had been severely damaged we called the renter to ask what happened. She said that she did not know what happened and said the door was damaged when she arrived to check in. This contradicted what the property manager had reported. We checked further with the property manager and his assistant (who oversees the cleaning and monitors the property between rentals) and they both assured us that the door was undamaged when the renter arrived. We then made a reasonable decision to withhold the renter's security deposit pending estimates for repair. All estimates indicated that the door could not be repaired but had to be replaced. We DID NOT send a bill to the renter but sent her a copy of the Property Manager's Report and an estimate for repair. The door replacement was made in December (2012). The cost of the door replacement did exceed the amount of the security deposit and we notified the renter that her security deposit would not be returned. . We take security deposits very seriously and would not withhold a deposit unless we were absolutely sure that the damage was done by the renter. Our property management team is professional and dependable and have worked with us for several years to insure the integrity of the house for each weekly check in. Each summer we have received countless notes from renters telling us how much they have enjoyed their stay. We have several who come back year after year. Some of the comments frequently made are that they found the house clean, well appointed, and comfortable. With the help of our property managers we do everything to insure that our renters will have a wonderful and memorable vacation. Many say they appreciate the community pool which is just a short walk from the house. We appreciate all of our renters who have stayed and enjoyed and have left the house in consideration for those who would follow. Just one damage incident in 7 years is a testament to all the families who have enjoyed our vacation house.
