You will find Canmore is steeped in history and keeps evolving with the times.

In 1883 construction began on the Canadian Pacific Railway from Calgary to the west to the Rockies. A depot was constructed at mile 68 and was named Canmore after the ancient Scottish King, Malcolm Canmore. In that same year, coal was discovered and even though the coal mining is long gone the coal mine rails lines and bridges were transformed into incredible hiking trails steps away from our condo and wilderness.

Over the years Canada has been building the Canada Trail, it is the world's longest recreational trail and runs throughout all of Canada. In 2010, a portion of the this trail the Legacy Trail, opened connecting Canmore and the town of Banff. To experience the Legacy trail, you can rent bikes from a multiple of Canmore bike rental companies and ride to Banff. There are picnic tables and washrooms at the halfway mark. You can make this a leisurely bike ride and pack a lunch enjoying the sites along the way. The neat thing is when you reach Banff and don't want to peddle back to Canmore; catch the different transit buses with bike racks on the front of the bus. The buses have special decals of wildlife and mountain scenes. Sit back enjoy the ride and sites and think about your adventures that day.

When you get back to our home, you can enjoy a movie or two on NETFLIX (free) or head up to the hot tub to soothe your joints. If you have any energy left or after you take a quick nap, you can head downtown where many different restaurants await you. All these great eating establishments are within walking distance of our mountain home.
