Perfect stay just outside the city

  • 5 of 5

The price was great for our extended stay. Thomas even hooked us up with tickets to a local event we were in town for. The place had everything we needed for our stay. Very accommodating, A+.

Extended Stay Traveler

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in this cute little studio twice now, each time for more than 2 weeks and will continue to stay here on trips. Considering how expensive everything is in Hawaii, especially if you're looking for a place to stay for more than 2 weeks, this studio is a great find! The price to value is unbeatable. I had everything I needed - a comfortable bed, a kitchen with necessities I needed to make my meals, clean and well appointed, free wifi etc. The location is perfect for my needs, giving me quick access to Downtown and Waikiki where I needed to be the most during my stay. I will definitely be returning to this studio in the future!

Cute studio in Oahu!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in this really cute detached studio in November during my trip to Oahu and it was great! I knew I wanted to stay away from the crowds in Waikiki and wanted to live somewhere where the locals lived and I'm so glad I found this listing. The property is on a hill with some pretty awesome views of the mountains, It had a very rustic feel to it which I love. The studio had towels and extra linens which was essential, there was a ceiling fan but no a/c. November was pretty cool weather-wise, we didn't need the fan on some nights, so I can't say for the other months. The kitchen was pretty nice, it had everything you'll need to cook a light meal. The bathroom had a nice shower and I was glad there was a hair blow dryer provided. The bed was super comfy! I really liked the furniture of the studio, it was cozy and had a rustic feel to it. There was a coin laundry washer and dryer right outside the studio which we used and was convenient.

The studio was right next to a road so it was a bit noisy but being from a big city, I got used to it pretty quickly. Bring earplugs just in case. The parking was easy, we parked on the street a few yards downhill from the property, it was always available.

Not located correctly on the map

  • 2 of 5

When I saw the location on the map near Kaimuki, I was pleased that I would be near to relatives. This place ended up being located in Pacific Heights. I had to trade my rental car for a small one due to the very narrow, against a stone wall, parking. I would not recommend for elderly or disabled due steep stairs -some triangle shaped. Some other renters have a deck just above Hillside. After hearing constant banging on the roof, I discovered a ladder from that deck to the roof of Hillside and a metal fruit picker tool. I know that some noise was from the mangos that dropped but not the loud crashes. The bathroom fixtures, stove, counter and sink were very clean but the dust on the top of the fridge and the folds in the curtains. I have visited Honolulu about 10 times and never a rental experience like this one.

Owner's Response: The map location was a glitch by VRBO which they have since corrected and as owners we didn't even know about it until your review. However, Pacific Heights is ten minutes from Kaimuki and not such a great, insurmountable distance as you made it seem in your review. It would have been helpful when you received your rental agreement with the address to review as well as your instructions and directions if you would have contacted us with any questions. Or perhaps when you read the driving instructions sent weeks ahead of your arrival to get off at Pali Highway should have alerted a seasoned traveler such as yourself who has been to Hawaii 10 times that the location was different from what you had thought and we would have been happy to refund your monies because of the VRBO map error. As for the stairs, they are not in any way steep and number less than twelve steps. We have had retirees in their 60s and 70s stay in the unit for long periods without any problems maneuvering the stairs and just had an older gentleman stay in the unit for 3 months, going up and down those stairs everyday and also walking to and from Downtown Honolulu without any complaints or any danger to his health. It was mango season and the cottage is beneath a mango tree which from time to time would fell some mangoes but no one has ever complained about it being constant or incessant or loud. Yes, there is a ladder stored on the roof to help the landscapers gather the mangoes to be given away, but no one was ever on the roof banging and making loud noises. In fact, there was only you and the long-term renter in the other cottage who is an emergency room nurse who works long hours who were on the property at the time of your stay and the nurse confirmed no loud banging noises were heard. We have had many guests who have stayed in the rental who have enjoyed it for its central location, for the ability to cook their own meals and wash their clothing, and for the great price. We have never had complaints about the mangoes or loud noises or the location. As for the cleanliness of the unit, as you said, it was clean and it is thoroughly cleaned after a guest checks out and before another one checks in each and every time. The "dust" can attributed to the fact that the unit is all windows and the windows are left open by us and by you during your stay.

Great Value for your Money!

  • 5 of 5

Exactly what I needed - nice, clean space, close to everything and at a great price! The place was even better than I expected and a true value for the price. I couldn't even find a place in Waikiki for that price, let alone be as nice as this studio!

If you are looking for value, this is the place! You've got a full kitchen at your disposal and you can save by cooking your meals. It's close enough to all the major sites, but far away from the craziness of Waikiki.

All in all, I really enjoyed my stay at the studio and made my vacation in Hawaii much more affordable! I really appreciate the owner for taking good care of the property and allowing me to be a guest at his place.

First time visitors to any of the islands

  • 5 of 5

We just completed a wonderful stay at this property. Owners were very helpful in getting us through the arrangements. We were visiting family and just basically needed a place to sleep, shower, and keep our "stuff". This was perfect! It was close to the major roads and freeways to get places quickly. Although we only used the frig and microwave, the kitchen was very clean and adequate for any food preparation. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get so there are no surprises or disappointments. The shower was awesome. Cars do go by during the morning and evening commute times but nothing that is of any major disturbance. The birds can sometimes seem louder...what a shame. In other words, for the price and location, street noise was not an issue to us. This was our first VRBO eperience so not sure what to expect. We would definitely do it again. There were lots of extra towels and sheets plus the use of washer and drier close to the entrance. Free parking was a real plus. We paniced a little on the first night but found the perfect spot the next day that was open everyday we were there (7). We later discovered it seems the way lots of people have to park on the island so felt more comfortable the rest of the time. The room might have gotten a little "close" if we had planned a day of just hanging out at our place but that was not the case for us so this was perfect. We would definitely reccomend this to anyone, especially if you are not needing "resort" accommodations. Oh yes, and the clause about insects being a part of Hawaii...not a problem in our room.
