Parking can be difficult in the town in high season. The town has a Morrison's supermarket and many shops including WH Smith and Superdrug. There are numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and take- aways. For the energetic walker and sporty type Largs and surrounding areas offers much including a top class sporting centre. For those who wish to totally relax the promenade walks are gentle, in particular the walk to the Marina, via the Pencil Monument, where you can have a refreshment and dine in very pleasant surroundings. A regular train service to Glasgow operates seven days a week and it allows for connections to both Glasgow and Prestwick airports. Good reasonably priced taxis are readily available. Frequent bus service to Greenock, Ayr and Glasgow. For full details on methods of travelling to and about Largs and surrounding area, visit the Tourist Information Centre beside railway station. For historical information visit the Historical Society which is in Manse Court (adjacent to the George Inn in the Main Street). Also St.Columba;s Church. Golf: Many golfers who wish to play the many excellent courses in Ayrshire -there are 45 of them- (including Turnberry and Royal Troon) use Largs as their base because of the 2 local courses, Routenburn (where a young Sam Torrance learnt his craft) and Kelburn and the fact that most courses are within 15 to 45 minutes drive from Largs. Virtually all courses welcome visitors and are reasonably priced. Expect to pay quite a bit more for Royal Troon and Turnberry and they are likely to ask for handicap certificates. Specific details on courses and their location can be provided on request although the Internet gives considerable detail on each course. The Island of Cumbrae which lies about a mile off the Largs coast has a good 18 holes and provides wonderful vistas of the Clyde and its islands. It is very popular and prior booking is recommended. The Island of Arran has a number of good courses (9 and 18 holes). The Island of Arran is reached by car ferry from Ardrossan (12 miles south of Largs)
Excursion Trips: These are numerous and a visit to the Tourist Information Centre is worthwhile. However have a day out in the county town of Ayr and take in the Robert Burns country. He was born in Alloway just south of Ayr. Burns cottage is now a museum. Close to the cottage is the recently opened Burns Experience Centre. One hour's drive will take you to the Trossachs which on a fine day is a scenic delight. From here you can go onto Stirling and visit its very fine castle. The remarkable Falkirk Wheel in the town of Falkirk should be visited. Rob Roy's country is close by. Take a ferry from Gourock over to the island of Bute (Dunoon or Hunter's Quay) and meander up the A885 through the scenic grandeur wildness of Argylleshire to Tarbet. From there turn south and this will take you beside the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. Keep on the A82 and cross the Erskine Bridge and back on to the M8 towards Greenock and eventual return to Largs. These are relaxing drives and the roads are seldom busy. Glasgow is 50 min drive from Largs and Edinburgh 1.5 hours.

Delighted the house and environs met with your approval.
We try to make the house as comforable as possible .amd it means a lot to us to give satisfaction to visitors.
Thankyou
Parking was easy . Kitchen was adequate for our needs but could have been cleaner . Directions to get there were spot on .Walking distance to shops and seafront. Very enjoyable week.
Although the house was perfect for us the furniture was a little tired. But I do understand it takes time to update everything. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay very much. All rooms were very spacious with plenty of seating in the lounge. If we went to Largs again we would definitely choose Leonards house.

Marilyn,
Thank you for your kind review. Our main objective is to provide guests with a comfortable, enjoyable stay. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms function well. I acknowledge that some of the furnishings need updating and we hope to make inroads into this year . Also whilst the kitchen needs updating currently it is satisfactory. However it is on the updating list..
The house gets many visitors returning some every year which is very pleasing and we look forward to hearing from you in the not too distant future.
Kind regards,
Len

Nice stay for a week with friends,
Really enjoyed the location so close to the beach and city centre.
Their is a train track nearby but we didnt notice it during our stay.
We enjoyed our stay and would come back again. The property was lovely and actually bigger than I was expecting, plenty of space for everyone. The local area is beautiful, close to the pubs and restaurants.

Very pleased that the house met satisfaction. It is roomy and good for families. Largs is the gem of Scotland's west coast resorts. Beautiful setting with a good town centre.
The property is in a very good location 1minute from riverside and easy walk into the town and ferry to Millport. We were there with family for a family event and there was plenty of room. The house is a bit tired and needs a bit of TLC, this would make it more a far more enjoyable experience.

Thanks Robert. Pleased you liked location of house and found it roomy for your party. The house is a bit dated decoration -wise in places and I update when I can but my main concern is you have a good clean house, well functioning bathrooms, comfy beds with quality linen in the roomy bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Very few holiday accommodation properties provide a separate dining room in addition to a lounge which is considered to be a big pluses.
I look forward to you making a future booking.
Regards,,
Len .
Everything about this property was perfect! Great location, terrific and well stocked kitchen and baths and bedrooms. Leonard’s instructions were clear and helpful. He even had a list of things to do! And Largs is simply a wonderful vacation spot. We’re already planning a return next summer.

It was a pleasure to have Melissa at my house.from the USA. It is always gives me much satisfaction to hear from guests who have found the house to their liking.I try hard to make the house attractive to guests and to have this acknowledged gives me a glow. Largs is a great little holiday resort and a good jumping off place to a number of islands and central belt attractions. I look forward to hearing from Melissa again.

The house has undergone a number of real improvements over recent years and later this year the kitchen will be undergoing a makeover. The house meets most rental groups entire satisfaction and we continue to offer excellent value for money
The property was extremely clean and comfortable and well maintained. It had everything we required for our family break. It was ideally located in a quiet residential area, close to the beach, town center and amenities. We would not hesitate to rent this property again.

It is so pleasing to get good reviews. We work hard to keep the house in tip top order and the cleaning firm are delighted to hear that their work is well received.. The house's location is ideal. A quiet area but close to promenade and the town.
This was our fifth time staying in the John Street house in Largs. Our first time there as a family was 17 years ago when my husband lost a kidney to cancer and we wanted to celebrate his recovery.
The location is perfect. Just steps from the beach and the house is spacious with everything a large family needs.
Lovely house in a quiet location within walking distance to Town Centre. House needs refurbished
Lovely house and garden area but could benefit from a complete refurbish and deep clean

Re the items found under bed I apologised to the guest on behalf of my cleaners.. They said they had taken on a new cleaner and she was reminded how important it is to be vigilant when cleaning especially around beds. Incidents of this nature are very rare.
I would have to say this was the most comfortable stay we have had in the UK yet. Large spacious home and everything you require. I don't believe we had any issues with the place at all and Largs is such a beautiful place. Thank you

About the host
Hosted by L Martin
My family have owned the house since it was built in the mid 1950's and it has been steadily modernised and altered internally during the ensuing decades to meet changing needs. However it retains its character, is a good family house and very suitable for holidaymakers.
Why they chose this property
The house is set apart from other properties and is also situate in a quiet part of the town. There is a good sized back garden which is safe for children and if the weather is good the barbecue is available for use .Table and chairs are set out. The promenade is about 200 yards away and if you have children there are 2 play parks , one located on the promenade being very good and the other about 100 yards from the house. Many craft sail on the Firth of Clyde and with yachts plying on the Firth in front of the islands it is a most pleasant sight. Sun sets over the river can be quite glorious.
