If you’re thinking of spending time in Burgundy, La Bulniere is the place to stay. It is a stunning private home in a pastoral setting with views that are the envy of landscape painters.
The house is the best of two worlds: the charm of a hundred year old chalet, plus careful renovation to take full advantage of the light and views and provide every modern convenience. The owners restored the house as their family’s retreat from life in Paris and now make it available to us.
While you’ll feel a serene sense of natural beauty and privacy here, all the supplies you’ll wish for to take advantage of a spacious chef’s kitchen are available fifteen minutes away. For a convenient dinner out, there are two quite acceptable restaurants in easy walking distance.
We had a full agenda of sights to see and things to do in Burgundy, and could not have chosen a better vantage point to make our home. A full week’s worth of day-trips are highly accessible from Mont-Saint-Jean, including wine tastings, castle-tours, premier town and village wandering.
To confess, we came to La Bulniere for a week, and stayed for two. After the first delightful week, feeling invigorated and renewed, we headed for our scheduled time in Paris. It was like attending a rock concert in Madison Square Garden, after a weekend at Tanglewood, picnicking on the lawn, listening to Vivaldi. We wisely noted there were some open nights, and we cut our Paris time short to reengage here and leave for home feeling refreshed of body and soul.
This trip from our home in the states has extended over two months, through four countries. We would rate our time in La Bulniere as the most rewarding, renewing, unexpectedly pleasant and satisfying place we’ve stayed.
All of this is only possible due to the efforts that Jean, its owner and your host, puts into making it so. He personally greets you upon arrival and takes the time to see that you are comfortable with all aspects of the house and environs. His display of sights information is made accessible to you and all your questions are patiently engaged. He is personally available to you for help and information during your stay. He is an international businessman, fluent in several languages including English and his native French, the proud father of three boys, and with a love of travel, architecture and the sharing of fine things.
You can be sure we’ve made plans to be here again for the best of next year.
