Great getaway on Carova Beach!

  • 5 of 5

We brought together 6 adults and one infant in the Oasis. It fit our family perfectly.... bathrooms for each couple, two living spaces and large deck spaces. Each space was decorated lovely. The kitchen is simple, but adequate and the house was clean. We drove back into Corolla one day for a charter fishing trip and another day just to explore. We planned the outings close to low tide so the beach driving wasn't a problem. The house does sit behind the dunes with a small view of the ocean, but walking over the dune was easy. I'm a grandmother to the infant and had no trouble walking over it with him in the backpack. This stretch of the beach was not heavily used and we truly enjoyed the privacy. The beach was incredibly clean with numerous shells and the water was clear and warm enough to wade. At least 2 or 3 wild horses grazed nearby daily. The house also has vacant lots on each side so you have privacy from neighbors, very quiet atmosphere. We would rent again from Morry and Nina. They were very prompt (replies within 2 hours) and helpful via email. The hot tub was serviced when we arrived and the propane for the grill replenished mid-week (even though it still had propane).

This house was everything advertised and more. the drive up the beach was long but well worth the trip! Low tide is definatley the best time to travel but I didn't have much trouble having to go up higher on the beach if the tide was coming in. I would suggest if you drive higher on the beach (closer to the dunes) in the softer sand that you do let air out of your tires, 20 psi is plenty to keep you from getting stuck and ALWAYS use 4 wheel drive. I had not taken a vaction in probably 5 years and this was a great way to get back into the swing of things. I am planning on a return trip next year! Also, the 2 individuals over seeing the propery during my stay were terrific, any time I had a question or needed anything they were just a phone call away and they came over within a few hours to deal with any problem or concern. This is a great house to rent if you have a dog(s), a short trip over the dune to the beach and you are at the water. The porches have great views and the steps can be easily blocked off with a baby gate so the pooches can hang out on the deck without escaping into the yard or like mine would have done, if given the chance: Head to the ocean for a swim that they never could get enough of! Terrific place can not say enough good things! Looking forward to my next visit!

Beautiful property in great location. We got really lucky with weather as the week before was persistent rain. This left the back roads difficult to access. Fortunately we were able to access and then by the end the massive pools of water had partially dried up.

The layout of the kitchen and living room with bonus attic play room worked beautifully for our family of five adults and five children <13.

Horses visit the house at high noon everyday.

This property is almost at the VA and NC border so it takes 30 min to reach paved road. Plan accordingly.

Charcoal grill works fine. Just bring fresh charcoal.

The House Needs Maintence

  • 1 of 5

I wish I could be writing a favorable review- as the house layout and location are very desirable. Booking was easy and the owner was very accessible for questions. However, that’s where the good news ends.

When we arrived, the roof was leaking and water was dripping from a light fixture. There were several areas of the ceiling showing water damage (above the master bedroom, above the refrigerator, above the family room fireplace, etc). By the third day all of those leaks became active and rendered the TV above the fireplace and master bedroom unusable. The guests in the master bedroom woke up to soaked sheets and several chunks of the ceiling on their sheets. We also had two relatives break out from exposure to the excessive mold throughout the home (check out the vents- all black inside and seeping out onto the walls beside them).

While the owner did seek out a roofer in a timely fashion- we then had to deal with roofers banging overhead early in the morning the next two mornings and hundreds of nails left for us to clean up on the decks and sand below.

The owner did not offer us any apology and was extremely cold in his emailed responses (and never bothered to call). He did offer us $300 off our week stay for our troubles. Considering the rate we paid and the circumstances we endured, we did not find that reasonable. The owner did not see a problem with renting out a home with roof leak issues and believed the home to be properly maintained.

Beyond that- several beds had red stained sheets and there was sand in the corners of many rooms.

Very disappointing.

Owner's Response: The week this guest stayed had torrential rains. My roof had never leaked before (except in the master bedroom, which had been repaired). The wind and heavy rains caused the rain to enter through the roof vents, again for the first time. When the guest notified me of this I immediately called my maintenance man and a roofer to get it fixed promptly. (If I don't maintain the property like the renter says, why did I immediately send a roofer?) That is my duty as a rental property owner. I can not be responsible for torrential rains, but I am responsible to fixing the damage asap. It sounds like she expected me to just keep letting the rain come in. My maintenance man said the mattress was only damp, and the renter confirmed they only didn't use the master bedroom for 2/7 days. Hence the refund amount (2/7x6 sleeping areas). I actually paid more than that. I dispute a lot of the other things said. What she said was "mold" was condensation and a little rust on the vents like occurs in any warm environment where AC is used. I can not be responsible for severe weather and I am sorry the guest arrived during such a week. I am responsible to repairing and maintaining, and I did so promptly. Please note the guest who arrived right after this party left a 5/5 review.

Bug infested. Dead flies in towels. Nasty stained furniture. Broken chairs.Owner full of excuses.

  • 1 of 5

What a pig stye. Sent owner photos upon move in.of bugs on bedroom walls, in towels, etc. We called prop mgr when we could not get in at our 3:00pm check in time and she did not return our call at 7:00 pm,,,, she said to text and not call her for faster response. Later I texted her many house problems & pics of safety hazards, she NEVER responded. . Complaiined and documented the cleanliness with photos (daily) to owner. He said they wouldn’t clean it because we were already in there. We could only use 3 dining chairs, the rest were unsafe. He wouldn’t fix. He was no help. We asked for a refund. But no response. No wonder there is a For Sale sign. We definitely left it in better condition than we got it in. I have pics of everything that I can post but I think the owner should consider a partial refund and hire a new house manager. Location of house was great.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately this guest was very difficult to deal with, in spite of multiple efforts to satisfy her. I sent a caretaker over several times to take care of the issues she raised, and she told me he was very helpful, though one doesn't see that in her review, and yes the chairs were fixed , and the stained coach was cleaned during her stay, unlike what she wrote. I do believe it is possible my cleaner could have done a better job. It is very hard to get good cleaners in the northern OBX. But, she wanted my cleaner to come over after she had already been there 5 days and my cleaner refused as the house would certainly be dirty again. I exchanged several emails with this guest who one day would say "ignore my last email, everything is fine", and then complain the next. I did what I could and I am sorry this guest didn't find things satisfactory. Incidentally, the guest right before her gave the house a 5/5 review, as have most of my guests.
