About this property
Authentic Vintage Cabin • Woodstove • Romantic Getaway for Two
If you’re searching for an authentic cabin—one with history, charm, and handmade details—Cedarwood Cabin awaits. Hand-built in 1922 and lovingly restored, this is real Mount Hood heritage, ready to transport you back in time for quiet evenings of connection.
At the heart of the cabin is a beautiful enamel woodstove. Light a fire, settle into the cozy couch, and let the evening unfold with books, board games, vintage records, warm blankets, and the soft glow of vintage lighting.
Sleeping & Layout
Cedarwood is a classic one-room cabin, ideal for couples. The double bed sleeps two, and the futon couch folds down for an additional sleeping spot. (Please note: the open floor plan offers minimal privacy.)
Kitchenette
The kitchen is simple but well-equipped with essentials: a plug-in hot plate, griddle, microwave, coffee grinder, French press, and a full assortment of dishes, utensils, and cookware. There is no oven. Prefer a night out? Restaurants and brewpubs in Welches are just minutes away.
Bathroom
The bathroom is only a step outside the back door (with covered entry). Inside, it’s fully remodeled with a subway-tile shower, sink, toilet, cedar shelves, and a twist-timer heater for comfort during chilly mornings or evenings.
For Guests Accustomed to Modern Homes
You can absolutely fall in love with Cedarwood’s charm—but please know this is a true cabin, rustic and simple by design. You won’t find a TV or modern luxury finishes. You will find history, character, and handmade, old-world craftsmanship.
What You’ll Love
• No TV—just books on hiking, wildflowers, and Mount Hood history • Soft blankets, handmade pillows, and a snug couch for reading or cuddling • The peaceful patter of rain on the roof
The Setting
Cedarwood sits on a small loop road of cabins and homes—quiet, safe, and neighborly. You may see someone walking a dog, but privacy is well respected. From inside, your view is filled entirely with trees.
Conveniently located just off Highway 26: • <5 miles to Welches • 5–10 miles to popular trailheads • 15–30 miles to ski areas • Easy year-round access; no 4WD required
RUSTIC BY DESIGN
This is not a modern home styled to look like a cabin—it is an authentic cabin. Think glamping meets history: cozy, quirky, and full of character. If you enjoy yurts, lookout towers, tiny houses, or treehouses, Cedarwood will feel like magic.

About the host
Hosted by Ian McCluskey
Hello, My name is Ian, and I am honored to share Cedarwood cabin with you. I am a 7th generation Oregonian. My ancestors came over the Oregon Trail, which passes very close to Cedarwood Cabin. I grew up hiking, skiing, and camping on Mt Hood. In high school, I volunteered with the Mt Hood National Forest, and lived in a cabin built by the CCC during the Great Depression and gave tours of Timberline Lodge. That experience created the dream to one day restore a historic Mt Hood cabin. 30 years later, I finally realized that dream.
Why they chose this property
The first time I saw Cedarwood it captured my heart. It was weathered grey. A simple cabin, much like the ones I slept in at summer camp on the Oregon Coast. It wasn't for sale when I first saw it, but I kept it in my mind. After a year of looking for the perfect cabin, it happened to come up for sale. I immediate made an offer and wrote a heartfelt letter. Luckily, it reached the grandson of the original builder, who loved the cabin dearly. He recognized that I was the perfect person to be the next steward of Cedarwood.
What makes this property unique
Stepping into Cedarwood makes me immediately take a deep breath. It has that smell of wood and woodsmoke and home-cooked meals, mixed with the scent of the forest--trees and moss and ferns. They say a violin's sound improves the more it is played. A violin is essentially a finely-crafted wooden box; Cedarwood is essentially the same thing, of a larger scale. All the laughter, stories, and conversations around the fire have made it sweeter.
