Visit our lovely, cozy 2 story 2 bedroom 3 bath cottage nestled in the woods, surrounded by rhododendron and mountain laurel in a lush setting, but in a secure mountain community known as Hound Ears. You are high and dry in this well stocked and comfortable paradise. We have high speed cable modem access and Wi-Fi for your laptop and all your wireless devices should you need to check in with the office, check email or visit websites.
A short distance from your vacation home is the world famous Watauga River where you can fish for Brown, Brook or Rainbow Trout. The area is filled with other rivers and streams to fish from or hike along.
There are outfitters available for fishing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, caving, hiking, and just about every other interesting sporting pursuit.
The cabin, with a wraparound deck, provides a wonderful wooded view and is within 15 minutes of Blowing Rock, a small “artsy” town filled with great restaurants and shopping. The city of Boone is also about a 15 minute drive, and will allow you to fill your grocery cart with fine foods and fill your cultural heart with good music and plays. For the family or people of other interests, there is hiking galore, skiing and snow-boarding in winter, golf, Family Billiards, Grandfather Mountain, historic general stores, antiquing, kayaking, horse back riding, gem mining for the kids, rock climbing, and world class spas.
After a day out, spend the evening soaking in the hot tub, listen to the sounds of nature on our deck, choose a book from our reading library, watch a movie from our DVD selection on the new flat screen TV... or just CHILL OUT.
The community has recently created 1) a dog park, 2) a site to park your car close by for trout fishing in the local river, and 3) lovely hiking trails on top of the mountain in the community.
Come visit us. You will be glad you did.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COMMUNITY, NOT US, NOW REQUIRES A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK FOR THE MAIN RENTER OF THE CABIN AT NO COST TO THE RENTER.
(This is a vacation home/short term rental ONLY. Please- no long term rental inquiries, however, weekly or monthly stays will be considered. 2 couples are the most comfortable in this cabin. We envision 6 people to be 2 couples and 2 younger children as there are two bedrooms and an extra sofa bed for sleeping). A small well behaved/vaccinated dog is welcome (and maybe 2).
PLEASE NOTE that we do not keep up our calendar, so it is best to contact us. Any rates may also be subject to additional sums including state and local taxes, a service fee, refundable damage deposit (assuming no damage) and a $20 per night per dog NON refundable deposit (and we will discuss all of this when you contact us).
For some reason, and we apologize for this, the site configuration somehow disallows us from advising you of this elsewhere. We apologize for any inconvenience. ALSO please note that we do not keep our calendar updated, so kindly contact us for availability.

Beautiful setting, outdated/cluttered/dirty dwelling
First negative VRBO review I've ever left - but all the 5 star reviews for this propertybare misleading. Not a "house" not a "cabin", thrown together (2 of the bathrooms are units taken off a boat I believe). Would have been better if advertised - and priced - for what it is. The views are beautiful but inside is just odd and cluttered - and needed a good cleaning - felt like we were staying in someone's poorly renovated garage apartment furnished with yard sale finds. Again- would have been fine for the views if description and pricing would have prepared us for what we actually got. Surprised by all the great reviews - they are what made the decision for us to rent. Owned by realtors with several rentals - you learn a lot from security guards at gate. We won't return.
We are the owners and not a rental company. We are shocked at this negativity. Our cabin is always clean, the beds are new, the kitchen is,fully stocked, etc...and most people say we are cozy...not cluttered. We are sorry that you expected more than a cabin that was clean, comfortable and true to its description.
Me, my girlfriend, and our friends had a wonderful time. It was an absolutely beautiful and cozy place to stay. It made for a very relaxing get away, with essentially everything one could need to go and not worry too much; from some seasonings to pots, pans, cups, and silverware. On another note, the staff was super friendly and answered any and all questions without an issue which made it that much easier. There was Plenty of things close by to do and enjoy, unless one wants to stay in and relax, of course the hot tub is a choice, but they also had a wide variety of choice movies to watch. Would gladly come back with no hesitation. Had a wonderful time!!
My family and I were looking for an escape from the South Florida lifestyle and heat. Paradise Cove provided us with the hidden treasure we were looking for!
It's proximity to Blowing Rock and Boone made for wonderful day trips and sightseeing. There were great eating spots all around and plenty of adventure close by.
The Cove's quaint accommodations were cozy, comfortable and contained all the conveniences of home. Happy hour was truly enhanced by the fabulous wrap around porch and the cool, shaded hillside it is perched upon. Very easy to lose yourself in the tranquility offered by this relaxing setting.
Paradise Cove is a wonderful value, exceeding our expectations, and we would not hesitate to come back.
We loved it !
We were fortunate to spend five great nights at the cabin in June of 2016. It was a fantastic visit. The cabin itself has everything a guest will need - all the comforts of home. Just bring your clothes. Managers / owners were accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. The location is unbeatable. The property is located in a secure gated community with guards, and yet you feel like you are in a mountain wilderness. The surrounding area has endless hiking trails, attractions, golf, shopping and also good restaurants. What else can we say?? Oh yes, we'll be back next year !!
Not what we expected- :(
As we arrived we were disappointed with the overall condition. The railing around the decks were not safe for children or small dogs with large gaps that a child or animal could fall through. A makeshift gate was there to block one end of the deck but not the other. As we looked around more there was debris left around and under decks - just gave an impression of not being well kept. The view was completely blocked (couldn't see more than 150 ft in any direction) by foiliage at this time of year- it is truly a tree house. The outdoor lighting did not work on the upper deck which is how you get to the parking area. The grill would not light after repeated attempts (I have a similar grill and light it all the time) forcing us to use the broiler on the electric oven. There was not any outdoor table to have a meal on- just individual benches. The interior of cabin requires updating, we had noticed that the there were no pictures of the kitchen on the website and when we got in we found that the kitchen was small and needs updating. No dishwasher and the bathrooms in the main living area upstairs are very small. There is a metal circular staircase that is used to get from the upper to lower level. It may not be useable for all - particularly those with a handicap or joint issues. I could not get the stereo system to work but it may have been me (once again I have had similar systems and believe I know how to work them). We did use the hot tub and it worked fine. We did love the Hounds Ear property and the Grandfather mountain area in general. The ride to Blowing Rock was about 15-20 minutes on a very fun, winding mountain road. Sorry- recommend the area but not this property.
We appreciate all comments, but if the guest had contacted us during the stay, we would have solved any problems. We have a very responsible property management company that is available 24/7.
As to the accessibility issue, our 2 story cabin is not billed as being handicapped accessible. But elderly people and others with disabilities visit with the main living area being perfectly acceptable (with BR, bath, kitchen, din rm, livg rm and deck available from that level).
Many people visit with small children and dogs. These guests have been happy that the cabin is well kept and in a great location. They have never complained about any problems with their safety. The exterior deck rail uprights are built so that small children can hopefully not squeeze through and fall.
As for other maintenance issues mentioned, we will take care of them, as we always do. Maintenance is simply a fact of life and is needed at any private home or public facility.
Our cabin is surrounded with trees, as indicated in the website and aerial view of the cabin. One would not expect long range views.
We want our guests to be pleased with our cabin during their stay, and considering the comments we have received in our guest book at the cabin, it appears that the guests are more than satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin, the accessories, the facilities, and the responses to any questions or queries.
A Wonderful Retreat
We were looking for a nice, relaxing place for our vacation and got so much more! What a pleasant surprise to find such a beautiful home in a fantastic location. Unusual to say the least! A round home in the mountains and woods of North Carolina. Conveniently located to so many quaint towns and things to do. From the Outlet Mall to Tweetsie Railroad to the Farmer's Market in Blowing Rock - something for everyone. But the most surprising part was the home iteself. All the comforts of your own home but so much more. The bedrooms were well done, the bathrooms were small but fine, and the hot tub - wow! My husband, who is a retired Executive Chef, also enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well stocked with all items he needed to make great dinners and even better - breakfast in bed!! Of course, there were also the things one cannot live without - cable and wi-fi!
I highly recommend this wonderful home for anyone wanting to have a "real" North Carolina experience.
