About Tom Watkins

I am working for an NGO that requires I spend time in Geneva, so am often out of New York.

Tom Watkins purchased this apartment in 1982

Why Tom Watkins chose Manhattan

Because it is in a great location from which the city's attractions are easily accessible -- steps off FifthAvenue between Flatiron, just to the south; Murray Hill, a block to the east; and Midtown, whose southern tip begins four blocks to the north. It's in the center of the Persian rug district, two blocks south of Korea Town and four blocks north of Madison Square Park.

What makes this apartment unique

A clean, quiet, calm, orderly and safe place of refuge that is within walking distance of many of New York's attractions.

Clean, convenient, cool

  • 5 of 5

Tom's place was great, perfect for a family of 3 (2 adults + 1 teen), located in great district and close to many amenities.

The four floors up would be rough on older legs after a day out walking the city, we found no issues though.

Given the very hot weather experienced when we were there, thoroughly enjoyed coming home to nice cool apartment.

Yes was some construction going on around area, however we were able to sleep in each day til 10am after late nights out exploring.

The blow up Aerobed supplied for our 6ft 1 child was very comfortable and easy to use.

Tom made the checking in and out experience a breeze and provided clear and great instructions for the apartment. We will definitely be back next trip to NYC!!

Amazing Gem in Midtown.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing experience, both with Tom and his lovely apartment. Tom was easily accessible for questions, and we felt completely comfortable contacting him. The apartment was such a treat, and made us feel a part of the city for our stay. The bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the apartment was not only clean, but felt like home the moment we walked in. Great location too!! We would not hesitate to stay again should the opportunity to travel to New York present itself again. Thank you Tom!!!

Comfortable on the inside

  • 5 of 5

The building wasn't the easiest to get into due to old locks and keys that you have to wiggle, and the hallways smelled like trash, but once we got into the room, it was like a welcoming oasis. The bed was very comfortable after a long day of walking in the city.

Owner's Response: Thank you to the guest for her comments. The trash barrels are located off to the side on the ground floor and they can be pungent from time to time, even though they are emptied every couple of days. But the interior of the apartment itself is not affected. No one else in the building has problems with the keys, so it is likely that the latest copy is not true. I will replace it.

Clean, cozy, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at Tom’s apartment! There were no surprises as we found the apartment to be exactly as represented. Upon booking, I was pleased with the very clear instructions we were provided, which prevented us from ever needing to contact the owner for questions or concerns. We did, coincidentally, meet the building superintendent when we arrived who was quite pleasant and willing to help should we need anything. The apartment was clean and cozy, and just enough space for the two of us. The bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. My daughter chose to sleep on the air mattress which was of very good quality, and would be perfectly suitable for an adult. We also had no problems finding extra sheets and blankets. The location was perfect for walking to many of the sights that people come to see when staying in the city, and even when arriving home late into the evening we never felt unsafe. We found many great places to eat right within walking distance whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The only complaint I can muster up is that I found old coffee grounds from a previous guest in the coffee maker. Oh well, a small miss, for an otherwise lovely stay. Would I stay again? You bet!

Owner's Response: Many thanks to my guest and her daughter not only for staying with me, but for reading the instructions I sent. In doing so, they made it easier for me to minimize the number of possible glitches that can (and sometimes do) occur. I am grateful to her for pointing out the leftover coffee grounds and have taken steps to ensure that will not recur.
