About Jim & Stephanie Carpenter

We have lived in the Klamath Basin since 1991. We have been actively involved in natural resource issues, construction and guide and outfitting. Most recently we finalized a 7 year project, 'Creating A Sense of Arrival' with the remodel of a Visitor Center for the City of Klamath Falls to showcase our beautiful downtown, trail system and waterfront area. This 'One Stop' location offers visitors and locals a place to get information about our area from the Chamber of Commerce and Discover Klamath. Other tenants include Klamath County Economic Development, the Hombuilders Association, Watershed Partnership and Ducks Unlimited.

We are recipients of the City of Klamath Falls 'Green Pelican Award' and US Fish & Wildlife Wetlands Conservation Award.

Jim & Stephanie Carpenter purchased this house in 1996

Why Jim & Stephanie Carpenter chose Southern Oregon

We built our home in this very special location because it is on the waterfront and centrally located.

What makes this house unique

This property is unique due to it's up close and personal all season watchable bird and wildlife, which can be viewed from the comfort of your living room or outdoors on the deck. Boating, birding and fishing are a just a few steps away.

Downtown Klamath Falls is only 5 minutes and the airport a mere 15 minutes.

If you like to hike or bike the Link River Trailhead can be seen from the living room. This Trail takes you to historic Main Street where you can enjoy lunch and visit a museum.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The view was beautiful, way better looking than my handwriting. We saw so many birds I think I should list them.

I saw a Great Egret, Double Crested Cormorant, Black Crowned Night Heron, American White Pelican, Stellars Jay, Clarks & Western Grebes, Clarks Nuthatcher, Osprey, Sparrows, Finches, Black Headed Grossbeak, Redwing Blackbird, and Morning Doves. Thanks for the warm kindness, hospitality, and information. I forgot to mention the Tree Swallows, Goldfinches, Gulls, Geese & Robins.

great time with beautiful setting to see the grebes rushing-dancing on water!

  • 5 of 5

It was so wonderful to have a comfortable home for bird watching...I found myself so involved with grebe watching, from early am to early pm, that I really didn't want to go anywhere else and I didn't the majority of my stay....I definitely will come again and hopefully plan a trip each year during this time or a little later to see the grebes, white pelicans, other waterfowl and the many songbirds I enjoyed on the trees next to the patio...there were so many species!! I recommend this spot for anyone who wants to watch the grebes mating during this time of the year as I observed over 45 pair demonstrating their beautiful ritual of mating, or at least looking for a mate!! This was on my "bucket list", watching the grebes, and this is the most perfect spot....thanks for a wonderful time....lynda steiner

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We loved to stay in this property. House is spacious and both bedrooms are big. It is next to lake. View is wonderful from inside of the house. We watched birds from sitting inside in the house. Although we could not open the door as there are lot of mosquitos. Good collection of books. I recommend living in this property.

Owner's Response: So happy you enjoyed your stay. Fortunately the view from indoors is spectacular. August can be buggy in the evening especially in the riparian zone! . The birds & fish appreciate that. Thanks for the positive review. We look forward to a return visit.

Nice view but unresponsive property owners

  • 1 of 5

The view is nice out the windows, but the house is not as advertised...Definitely not "World Class Eco Gem".

There is no air conditioning as advertised, and when we called to ask about this, the owner stated that it was a "miss print" on the website and if you clicked on the air conditioning word (not link) it stated that there was no air conditioning. Suggestion -be honest and state there is no air conditioning. This is important especially when temperatures can be in the 90's to over 100 degrees in the summer.

The boats advertised are not in good shape and when we asked for assistance the owner stated we needed to call her nephew. We called and and texted her nephew, and the nephew did not call us back until late the following day. He said he would stop by, but never did. We were not able to use any of the boats.

The next door neighbor's dogs (which are close) barked at us constantly when we sat out on the deck.

Small black ants in the kitchen.

The bathtub upstairs was filthy and full of bugs.

Got a text on our last day from the owner that stated, "My housekeeper is coming at 11 to clean. We have guest arriving at four so she has a short time frame." Basically "get out" so that the housekeeper can come to clean for the next guests. 11:00 AM was check out time and we were out before then.

Owners are not friendly or helpful.

Owner's Response: Since becoming members of VRBO in 2008 we are proud to have a 4.8 Excellent rating overall with 24 guests giving us 5 Stars, 9 guests 4 Stars & 1 guest a 1 Stars. We are glad that you were able to enjoy the view, one of our best features! We have upgraded the site to show that there are 2 ceiling fans, one in the living room and one in the Master bedroom. The VRBO website requires one to hover over the Air conditioning to see the ceiling fan note. We offer boats as a complimentary amenity to our guests and include life vests, paddles & oars for the canoe, kayaks & rowboat. In the future we will suggest guests visit Harriman Springs Resort or Rocky Point Resort for motor operated boat rentals. We have spoken to our neighbors about their dogs & they are cooperative. The fence had a hole & it has been repaired. We pride ourselves on offering a clean & enjoyable stay. Our housekeeper does an excellent job. In the House Rules book it lists a check out time of 11 am. As a courtesy to our guests we let them know that the housekeeper will arrive at that time. We spoke with our guests a number of times by phone & text about changing the number of guest to include 1 other person & an additional dog. We were most agreeable to do so.

Awesome house in Klamath Falls

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at this home in Klamath Falls. The view was amazing and the house was awesome...the huge windows added light and made it easy to enjoy the outside view. The home was clean and well equipped especially in the kitchen. Charming with plenty of room. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms were roomy with lots of storage.

Outside we held an afternoon party for our daughter graduating from college. Lots of grassy area to put out tables and chairs and the weather was perfect. Lots of shade as well.

The view of the lake put it over the top. All the guests loved it and enjoyed taking the kayaks and canoe out. In the evening we all gathered around the fire pit. Very relaxing!

We were also able to bring our small dog and she had a great time running around the yard.

Stephanie was great to work with and made it very easy to communicate with us and answer our questions and meet our needs. Thank you for sharing your home!

Owner's Response: Summer is a delightful time in the Klamath area. We showcase the best we have to offer. Having 2 lots makes for extra space and a nice outdoors area. We are in a great location which makes for great reunions for those living in southern & northern California to Portland, OR & Seattle, Washington. Over the years we have made many wonderful new acquaintances.

Wonderful location for wildlife viewing!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to this property in Klamath Falls. It is a beautiful home in a beautiful location. We are birdwatchers who have come here to watch the grebes performing their courtship behaviors. It is a perfect site. You can sit on the deck and watch them running across the water. I highly recommend this home and this experience!
