About Jim & Stephanie Carpenter

We have lived in the Klamath Basin since 1991. We have been actively involved in natural resource issues, construction and guide and outfitting. Most recently we finalized a 7 year project, 'Creating A Sense of Arrival' with the remodel of a Visitor Center for the City of Klamath Falls to showcase our beautiful downtown, trail system and waterfront area. This 'One Stop' location offers visitors and locals a place to get information about our area from the Chamber of Commerce and Discover Klamath. Other tenants include Klamath County Economic Development, the Hombuilders Association, Watershed Partnership and Ducks Unlimited.

We are recipients of the City of Klamath Falls 'Green Pelican Award' and US Fish & Wildlife Wetlands Conservation Award.

Why Jim & Stephanie Carpenter chose Southern Oregon

We built our home in this very special location because it is on the waterfront and centrally located.

What makes this house unique

This property is unique due to it's up close and personal all season watchable bird and wildlife, which can be viewed from the comfort of your living room or outdoors on the deck. Boating, birding and fishing are a just a few steps away.

Downtown Klamath Falls is only 5 minutes and the airport a mere 15 minutes.

If you like to hike or bike the Link River Trailhead can be seen from the living room. This Trail takes you to historic Main Street where you can enjoy lunch and visit a museum.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The view was beautiful, way better looking than my handwriting. We saw so many birds I think I should list them.

I saw a Great Egret, Double Crested Cormorant, Black Crowned Night Heron, American White Pelican, Stellars Jay, Clarks & Western Grebes, Clarks Nuthatcher, Osprey, Sparrows, Finches, Black Headed Grossbeak, Redwing Blackbird, and Morning Doves. Thanks for the warm kindness, hospitality, and information. I forgot to mention the Tree Swallows, Goldfinches, Gulls, Geese & Robins.

great time with beautiful setting to see the grebes rushing-dancing on water!

  • 5 of 5

It was so wonderful to have a comfortable home for bird watching...I found myself so involved with grebe watching, from early am to early pm, that I really didn't want to go anywhere else and I didn't the majority of my stay....I definitely will come again and hopefully plan a trip each year during this time or a little later to see the grebes, white pelicans, other waterfowl and the many songbirds I enjoyed on the trees next to the patio...there were so many species!! I recommend this spot for anyone who wants to watch the grebes mating during this time of the year as I observed over 45 pair demonstrating their beautiful ritual of mating, or at least looking for a mate!! This was on my "bucket list", watching the grebes, and this is the most perfect spot....thanks for a wonderful time....lynda steiner

Wonderful location for wildlife viewing!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to this property in Klamath Falls. It is a beautiful home in a beautiful location. We are birdwatchers who have come here to watch the grebes performing their courtship behaviors. It is a perfect site. You can sit on the deck and watch them running across the water. I highly recommend this home and this experience!

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at the Carpenter's rental home. It was so relaxing and peaceful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the grebe and other bird activity on the lake. The house is beautiful and made our experience fantastic!

Deer, Hawks, Eagles!!!

  • 4 of 5

Just spent a fantastic week at the Eco Gem! Fantastic opportunity to observe wildlife in an up close and personal way. Location is everything. Huge windows looking out onto the lake were a treat. Relaxing spa to enjoy after a day of exploring Moore Park. The Waffle Hut was our favorite breakfast choice, for dinners we cooked in the very functional kitchen, and enjoyed the one of a kind views from the dining room table. Lovely golf course just down the street, and convenient to grocery stores made this a great base for day trips to the eclectic Shady Cove, Lake of the Pines, and Collier Park in Chiloquin . It does need a new deck and a few repairs but it sounds like these are on the way. Hopefully this gem will be around for many more good vacations!

Great location, can't beat the view.

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location for bird watching, right out the front windows. Be ready for bugs and spider webs, but they come with all of the birding action. Was disappointed in the water quality, warnings to avoid contact with the lake water due to an algae bloom, but again all of the bugs, fish and birds don't lead to crystal clear water.

Owner's Response: Greetings, Thank you for your review. Living so near the riparian zone presents challenges as well as opportunities. Seeing birds, otters, mink & other wildlife up close and personal is what attracts visitors to our unique home. Having this diverse group of wildlife is a sign of a healthy, thriving ecosystem & one we are proud to showcase. Fall is migration season for birds, deer as well as bugs. Upper Klamath Lake is utilized as a reservoir for the Klamath Project so the lake levels are very low by the end of the irrigation season. The lake fills to normal levels over the winter. This is why the Klamath Yacht Club has a lively sailing season during the summer months. We are currently looking into options for bug control. Stay tuned.
