Nestling in a delightful garden this traditional But 'n Ben cottage is an idyllic haven for couples seeking a comfortable, homely, characterful cottage in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.
The charming lounge with log burning stove provides a romantic and cosy setting. French doors lead onto a sunny patio and attractive garden which is visited by the playful red squirrels and many species of birds. Red Kites and Buzzards fly overhead and the occasional Otter may be spotted as it vies with the Heron as it searches the burn for wee brown trout. Roe and Fallow Deer together with Badgers inhabit the neighbouring woodland.
The cottage is situated in picturesque Anwoth, next to The Old Schoolhouse and opposite the historic and atmospheric Old Kirk both of which featured in the infamous film "The Wickerman". We had a great time in this wee, cosy cottage. Cottage itself full of beautiful decor, very clean. Great stay, really. OK, the weather wasn't that good all week. For sure will come back summer time!

Perfect Peace
Our stay at Clachan Cottage Anwoth was perfect. The cottage is ideal for 2, is well equipped and furnished and comfortable. The bonus is the beautiful garden shared with the numerous birds that visited the bird table ,including to our delight colourful woodpeckers! Lesley gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful. We appreciated the peace, the walks in lovely countryside, and coastline. The nearby towns of Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas, and Kircudbright all have something to offer of interest as well as satisfying all our shopping needs. An excellent stay and we hope to return.

Parking
Unfortunately parking was an issue as there was no designated parking at the property it was across the lane on a gravel/grassy area which was an access route to the local farmer. It is a lovely little character property but would benefit from some modernisation without taking away the character. For the price we paid felt it was not value for money..

About the host

Host profile image
Hello, I am Lesley and together with my husband Bill came to live in The Old Schoolhouse in picturesque Anwoth in 1980 when we opened our home to B & B guests and rented out Clachan Cottage, the wee But 'n Ben next door, to self catering holiday guests. We are keen gardeners and have developed attractive gardens surrounding the cottages and produce all our own fruit and veg in the adjoining veg garden. Eight years ago we built a cottage in part of the veg garden which we moved into last year and now rent out Anwoth Old Schoolhouse for holiday accommodation together with Clachan Cottage. Over the last 30 plus years we have enjoyed sharing our home and this idyllic haven with l00's of guests making many friends along the way and hope to continue to meet and make many more friends in the years to come. We are at hand to help out with any queries you may have and advise on the wealth of things Galloway has to offer but at the same time will also respect your privacy.
2016 is our first season with Owners Direct so as yet we haven't any reviews published but reviews can be seen on our website.

Why they chose this property

Bill has travelled a good part of the world but has found this little gem in the virtually undiscovered and unspoilt corner of Scotland hard to beat. This view is shared with many of our guests who after discovering Anwoth return to the cottage time after time as is corroborated in the comments expressed in the guest book. We look forward to welcoming you to the cottage to share the same experience. Further details on places to visit in Dumfries and Galloway can be found on our website.
