We are Doug and Susan and we live in Minneapolis, MN. We first came to Playa about eight years ago when the town was half the size it is today. We loved it then and returned a couple of years later and discovered Playa had grown to almost where the condo stands today. Our dream was to buy a condo close to the beach - the next year, we bought our condo as it was being built and also got married on the beach!
The Owner purchased this condo in 2006
We love the North end of town because it's so close to everything - the best beach in Playa and 5th Ave. yet it's quiet at night. In the evenings we like to light the candles on the balcony and sit outside with a cold beverage either listening to CD's or just hearing the breeze gently rustling the leaves of the plants in garden. Sometimes we'll go up to the rooftop pool and watch the sun set over Playa. It's just a one block stroll to several nice restaurants, bars and two convenience stores run by friendly locals.
The beach near the condo is beautiful and much less crowded than in town. You can pack a cooler and take our umbrellas and chairs to the beach and make a day of it. If you like to snorkle or dive, the shop on the beach at Shangrila just in front of us has a friendly and professional staff. Also, if you'd like a massage at the beach, there is a stand on the beach that gives an excellent massage at a reasonable price.
There's no need to rent a car as we are walking distance to everything. Should you decide to take a day trip, there are plenty of reliable rental agencies in town to accomodate your needs.
Susan and Doug's condo was absolutely perfect! Better than what is shown in the pictures. Having come to Mexico for some rest and relaxation after 9 days of difficult and exhausting hiking in the Peruvian Andies was excellent. I very much appreciated the comfortable bed, the shades to keep the room dark and cool so I could catch up on some desperately needed sleep, the quiet of a mostly residential neighborhood and the feeling of home was so much welcomed. The condo was also larger than I had expected. The location is one block from the north end of 5th Avenue and just one block from the pristine Caribbean ocean with the white sand beaches. We took a swim a couple of nights in the rooftop pool while listening to the thunder roar and the lightening flash in the sky (but no rain). We had the pool all to ourselves, which added an element of romanticism. My brother joined us a few days after we arrived and reported that the bed in the second bedroom was also super comfy. Both bedrooms had private full bathrooms in addition to a 1/2 bath in the common space. There were ample beach towels, snorkeling gear, bath towels, etc. We found nothing lacking. The kitchen was well appointed - though we only cooked breakfast, it definitely had everything we needed, including a very good blender for making some homemade pina-coladas made with fresh pineapple and local ingredients. The WalMart is a short $3 taxi ride away. We stocked up on beverages and breakfast items to last the days we were there. The air conditioners worked beautifully, as did everything else in the condo. In addition, Deanni, the property manager was extremely responsive. I'd email her for an extra set of keys for my brother, additional water, anything and she would respond almost immediately - such GREAT service. We were very sad to have to leave - but will be back! Thank you, thank you!
What a nice surprise to find a condo close to beaches and 5th. I had a wonderful stay! Thanks to Deanni who checks in once and awhile to make sure all is good and is quick to resolve any issues. This is a small condo building with many owners living on site so very quiet and friendly. If you enjoy walking, you can walk the beach in both directions as far as you can. I took the bike out and went north on 5th as far as you can go, a good morning ride. The condo has everything for the beach you may need. Thanks again Susan and Doug for a great expereince away from home. Looking forward to next Jan!
My 2 sisters and I took our 87 yr. old mother to Mexico and couldn't have imagined a nicer trip! Susan and Doug's condo is beautiful and very comfortable. This comfort and elegance helped to make us feel so welcome. We brought a W/C for our mom so we could allow her to sit on those days when her back was bothering her. We had no problem maneuvering the W/C throughout the town to shops, restaurants, etc. We loved the beach and Mom loved the rooftop pool! The beach is just a short walk from the condo and gorgeous! Thank-you to Susan and Doug for providing us with such an amazing place to vacation! ( thanks also to Wilbur the handyman and Deanni who were both eager to help us in any ways they could. ) We will definitely be back!! Jan
We had an excellent stay in the condo. The 2 bedroom condo was great for two couples. It was nice to each have our own bathroom and private area. We enjoyed the roof top pool! The condo was stocked with everything you needed. It was really nice to have a washer and a dryer in the condo! There is construction going on around the condo but it didn't bug us one bit. The condo is on the north side of 5th avenue, so we did alot of walking! But we didn't mind, it was good excercise. We would recommend staying in the condo.

John and I would thank you both for our wonderful one month stay at your condo! We had never been to Mexico before and had concerns but they were quickly wiped away upon our arrival. Used U.S.A. Transfers to and from Airport and they were great. Friendly drivers and on time.
The condo itself was perfect and walking distance to the beach, restaurants, stores. Deanni greeted us when we arrived, and showed us the ropes. There was a nice bottle of red waiting for us - thank you for that. When we needed supplies/food, walking to Mega or Walmart was enjoyable. Nice to take side streets and check out the local architecture.
We met lots of lovely people both at the building and while we were out and about.Elizabeth and Lucien in 210 live very close to us here in Kanata believe it or not. Small world. Wilbur, the gardener is wonderful beyond belief. Hard working, pleasant, helpful. We exchanged email addresses - he wants to see pictures of snow! Kayla really did a great job of house keeping. There was a minor problem with the air conditioner and Joel fixed it straight away.
Before we left, I was really worried about safety issues. We never once felt anything but relaxed, comfortable, and safe.
I'm sure you have been told many times about the great places to eat but here's what stood out for us. For breakfast La Cueva del Chango or La Ceiba by DAC on 30th near Constituyentes are good choices. At lunch John enjoyed picking out the fish he wanted to be cooked at El Pirata on Calle 40 between Av 5 and 10.Can't get much fresher than that! El Fogon was great for inexpensive authentic Mexican fare. Great cold beer. We fell upon Aldea Corazon on 5th Av between 14y and 14B one day and were pleasantly surprised by a little oasis of wonderful hidden gardens. Very beautiful. Food was delicious. When we wanted a change from Mexican food we went to La Casa Del Agua. We had dinner there one evening and loved it. I had the lamb and John the short ribs. Both fantastic. Very nice atmosphere and a lovely evening out. We did try other places but too many to mention here. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.
We just returned from our stay at Susan and Dougs Condo. It was a perfect location for us located just off of 5th Ave and one block to beach. The condo will sleep 4-6 very comfortably. Since it was just my wife and I, we had plenty of room and each had our own bathroom. The outdoor patio was giant equipped with a grill. We didn't get a chance to utilize it but you can have a really nice time with a bbq out there. Each room had a AC unit in it and it was very comfortable.
We took the ferry to Cozumel one day. It was about a 20 minute walk down 5th ave to get to ferry. We rented a Jeep and explored the island. Lots of beaches and a few little bars to visit. We also did the Eco Park where we saw crocodiles and tasted Tequila. At the end of the park there is a great beach with bar and snorkel rentals. Great spot to snorkel. Would recommend a Jeep if you do decide to go there.
We also rented a car one day and took the 45 minute drive south to Tolume.
Thanks again Susan and Doug!!!
